Fucking Lanyards

I work for the LA and we have to wear an ID badge on a lanyard AT ALL TIMES as now cannot access any rooms without it or do any printing. I don’t really have an issue with it although I do find it bloody annoying to wear.

8 years I have been there and every now and then I change the actual Lanyard just to jazz it up a bit.

New boss yesterday asks me “do you have a LA lanyard” I’m like “I’m not sure maybe” she’s like “well you should be wearing one as it makes you more identifyable” FFS other than the ID badge and my actual face

I see their point tbh. Most people glance at the lanyard and it makes it clear the person is a staff member if it's a distinctive colour such as the NHS blue one, few people will want to look closely at your badge (which can feel intrusive) or will be able to get close enough to do it without it feeling awkward.

Plus it makes it obvious you're from that company and not a visitor from another organisation. Just see it as part of your uniform and express your individuality another way. I wouldn't consider this a hill to die on with your boss!

New Broom Syndrome

Mine (LA must wear) bobbles the middle of the front of all my clothes.

Ours have like a quick release thing on them and if you take it off and leave the room you can’t get back in.

Someone got trapped in the foyer for half an hour once as no one else in building and they had left their lanyard, bag, keys, mobile phone in the office.

Not unreasonable.

I have complied - it just fucked me off I’m not that important.

We were all issued with our school branded lanyards, I'm no longer allowed to wear my Cath Kidston lanyard

My last job was the first where I've not had to wear a lanyard. I was still always checking if I had it on before going to the toilet/kitchen etc. before remembering I didn't have one anymore

I HATE lanyards. Hate them. And the only thing I hate more than lanyards is corporate lanyards. So your boss would have given me the rage.

I am seriously fussy about what I wear and a lanyard never ever goes with what I'm wearing and takes away from the outfit. So I bought myself a pass clip that clips discreetly on my waist, and you can pull the pass out on an elastic thingy to use on the printer etc.

The thing about identifiability is batshit.

I feel your pain.

I work with small children and have to wear one all times. When I bend to speak with them it sometimes swings in their faces.

I've started wearing it like a belt.

I used to wear my Download lanyard, but we now have official lanyards

I don't see the point of the ones that say "STAFF" on, seeing as you can buy them on ebay.

In fact, looking on ebay now, you can buy the blue ones with "NHS" on so anyone can put an ID card on one but because it clearly says NHS people will assume they are a genuine NHS employee

I'd wear a different 'cord' colour every day.

Monday: leftover wool from my latest crochet
Tuesday: old string from my grandad's shed
Wednesday: shoelace
Thursday: work coloured
Friday: rainbow bright with some ballons and a fazoo attached.

People would soon remembet you

We have to wear two. One with the brand (school) and one with an organisation we work alongside (=pay them loads to make fuck all difference). Then there's the compulsory pin badges.

We have colour coded lanyards at work, so for example red for on-site staff, yellow for visitors, green for visitors from other sites, black for clients etc. Everyone has to have their correct colour as it's in our security training and protocol. It's ridiculous. I want a pretty lanyard if I have to wear one rather than the hideously coloured branded one.

I hate mine too, it gets in the way all the bloody time

Jungly jangly pain in the arse is my lanyard. I fortunately get to take mine off when I feel like it though (civil service)

Mine was an IOW Festival one

We have cards that act as ID and door access swipe cards but I tend to wear one of the retractable ones that I can hook onto the belt loop on my trousers.

On the rare occasion that I don't have a belt loop I wear a lanyard but it's a right PITA.

I hated them. Sitting at desks trying to help children with work and all you got was clatter clatter clatter. That didn’t work supporting an autistic child. It lived in my pocket.

We have to wear ones with our job title on them. So not only is our mugshot on full display but we are sitting ducks at 100yds

Where I work, all on-site staff have a particular colour lanyard.
Visitors have either a red or a green lanyard depending on whether or not they need to be accompanied whilst on-site.
Everyone knows this, so it's easy to pick up people who are not behaving as they should.
I'm not sure what your issue is. I'm a bit of a rebel because our lanyards are wide and cause my neck to ache, so I wear it attached to a waist clip and a retractable cord so I can swipe myself in where needed.
