Fucking Lanyards

I work for the LA and we have to wear an ID badge on a lanyard AT ALL TIMES as now cannot access any rooms without it or do any printing. I don’t really have an issue with it although I do find it bloody annoying to wear.

8 years I have been there and every now and then I change the actual Lanyard just to jazz it up a bit.

New boss yesterday asks me “do you have a LA lanyard” I’m like “I’m not sure maybe” she’s like “well you should be wearing one as it makes you more identifyable” FFS other than the ID badge and my actual face HmmAngry

Oh. I have a plain blue lanyard. It unclips a lot but that’s a safety device so I don’t get stangulated by the non-existant machinery.

We have to use ours to swipe through doors, and we have to wear them all the time.

They are just the length to ensure you have to do a kind of housemaids curtsey to get low enough to swipe it across the pad.

I've taken to wrapping the strap around my wrist and pointing out that the "Wear your lanyard and ID badge" signs don't specify they must be around your neck.

GrandTheftWalrus · 23/03/2018 23:17

Mine have to be easy open ones incase anyone grabs it. And clip on ties.

At my last job we HAD to wear them round our necks and when we were on our first aid course it kept hitting the dummy or colleagues so they relaxed that a bit.

I recently bought a chain one as I thought it would look nicer.

It was shit.

Johnnycomelately1 · 23/03/2018 23:24

I've got a Rainbow one that we got for LGBT day. I like it because it's easy to find in the bottom of my bag.

I used to have to wear a corporate blue one with the very boring company logo and my office key.
Then along to an external meeting came a rather glamourous company CEO- with a really pretty black crystal/diamante lanyard around her neck. I wanted one so bad. Who knew lanyard envy was a thing...😁

DailyWailEatsSnails · 24/03/2018 04:52

Horrible having it bouncing around all day

Can't you tuck it in somewhat (ok, my shirt)? Don't mind mine, but I can tuck it half under my collar.
I would go nuts if it had to be loose when I was walking around. Can't abide flappy things.

A olleague of mine who recently retired kept a coat hanger by her desk with dozens of lanyards of every colour you could think of to co-ordinate with her top

She has her own desk? .

I work for the LA. Our Lanyards and passes all say X Council but no job titles. It hadn't occurred to me that that might be a cost saving if they restructure and give us all.new jobs but actually that did happen to me last year and of course I didn't need a new pass. Which is good because the photo on mine is a really nice one and makes me look years younger.

I now work in a public access building where not every office has swipe entry. It's such a pain. We all hot desk and if you end up in a room without swipe access and are the only person in that room, then every time you go to the loo, to the printer etc you have to lock the office door with a huge key that doesn't fit in your pocket. So you end up balancing it precariously on the loo roll dispenser and try not to knock it off into the loo when you flush it. Or you leave it on the dispenser and don't remember until you get back to your office, can't get in and have to go running back to the loo and hope they key hasn't been nicked in the meantime.

I tried the clip-on/pull out thingy instead of a lanyard but I didn't get on with it at all. Maybe I'll give it another go.

I work for a LA, our manager bought us all sparkly lanyards Smile

GoingGrey42 · 24/03/2018 07:07

I wear an NHS lanyard, with ID card and a smart card for IT access, AND I have to wear a name badge. Thinking I may carry a sign too...just in case 🤣

BillywilliamV · 24/03/2018 07:17

God, lanyards. I have bent over the lunch table any number of times , my pass has dipped in my soup and smeared allover my top when I sat down.
You cant really wear funky neclaces or scarves to work with a lanyard
Worst time wss when I was eight months pregnant and went to the loo at work, bent over to pull my trousers up and my lanyard snagged in the lace in my knickers. I couldnt stand up and I couldnt sit down and I couldnt see to undo myself because of my bump.

Not keen on lanyards, wear my pass on my belt when I csn!

greenyblue · 24/03/2018 08:44

I don't mind wearing one as such, but I do hate that the justification is because Ofsted think they are great and all our safeguarding problems are solved.

MrsMaxwell · 24/03/2018 10:59

Hand maids curtsy Grin this exactly.

I have a genuine phobia of things round my neck so I have one on a clip on my hip that’s on a retractable string so I can swipe in/out. I think I’d have a breakdown if one HAD to go round my neck
