To think Coke and Pepsi aren't the same drink?

First world problems I know. Grin

I find that most of the time, despite listing "Coca-Cola", takeaways etc almost always send Pepsi instead.

It's not as bad as sending the diet version (ugh) so I wouldn't complain, but it's still not as nice and isn't the same drink. I suppose they do it because it's cheaper.

Was in a restaurant once and the guy tried to convince us that coke and Pepsi are the same drink and are made with the exact same ingredients...!

Explain the different taste then. Grin

I prefer Pepsi it defo tastes different

Sarsparella · 17/03/2018 13:52

I wouldn’t know the difference between them tbh

FissionChips · 17/03/2018 13:53

I watched a show about this once, apparently it’s the branding that makes it taste different Confused

acornsandnuts · 17/03/2018 13:53

I prefer Pepsi

TenancyTroublesAgain · 17/03/2018 13:54

Oh I do like Pepsi, almost as much as coke, but not quite as much haha.

The branding? Shock interesting. What about when it's served in a plain glass?

I like Coca-Cola. Pepsi is 🤮.

hotchocolate86 · 17/03/2018 13:54

I much prefer Pepsi.

QuiteLikely5 · 17/03/2018 13:55

No way is it the branding

They both taste completely different

I can tell the difference

BeyondThePage · 17/03/2018 13:57

Coca-cola and pepsi are the 2 opposing brands - they do not allow each other's products to be sold side by side in a takeaway (Cola wars...) - so KFC, Pizza hut will sell only Pepsi products, McDonalds, Dominoes, Papa Johns only Coca-cola. They may have no choice.

CandyMelts · 17/03/2018 13:57

They're different!
I suppose Pepsi is technically coke, but Coke (cola) is never Pepsi... Or are they both cola rather than coke? Confused

JestFromTheWest · 17/03/2018 13:57

I think of them as the same drink made by two different companies.

Perhaps I could tell the difference but I'm not sure.

Pepsi is a bit sweeter maybe? I don't know. Practically the same.

raindropsandsunshine · 17/03/2018 13:59

There's a big flavour difference, imo

Graphista · 17/03/2018 14:00

I can taste the difference and much prefer Coke.

The "it's the same ingredients" made me think of Les Dawson "I'm playing all the right notes just not necessarily in the right order" Grin

There are many colas on the market, mainly the same ingredients but in different combinations.

My experience has been I think due to coke's huge power that in order not to violate copyright or whatever if I ask for a Coke in a restaurant or bar and its Pepsi they have there they usually say "is Pepsi ok?" It's not but I still have it Smile

PinkHeart5914 · 17/03/2018 14:01

I prefer Pepsi and I can absolutely taste the difference between Pepsi & Coca Cola

PeerieBreeks · 17/03/2018 14:02

They are both cola.

But coke (I think) specifically refers to Coca Cola as a shortening of Coca. So if someone asks for coke, they should be advised the place serves Pepsi imo, and given the option to choose something else. Just like if they asked for Sprite and they were served 7 Up. It's not what they asked for.

But I'll have a soda water and lime, so it doesn't matter to me which they serve!

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 17/03/2018 14:04

It's the different recipe that makes it taste different. And, yes, they should be listing it as Pepsi, not Coca-Cola.

thecraftyfox · 17/03/2018 14:05

I can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke. Coke tastes faintly of carrots. I prefer Pepsi specially Pepsi Max

Kfc and Pizza Hut were owned by PepsiCo at one stage and i think Pepsi might still own part of their parent company which is why they sell Pepsi

userofthiswebsite · 17/03/2018 14:05

I'm not a huge fizzy drink person but will sometimes ask for Coke in a restaurant and have always been told if they only serve Pepsi. That is, they've never tried to pass A off as B.

I've always wanted to do a blind taste text with Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max...

TenancyTroublesAgain · 17/03/2018 14:06

Yeah exactly. It's the listing it as coca cola with a photo of coke that bothers me. I'd still order it if it was Pepsi just tell me what I'm getting. 😂

So why do I care? Grin

PurplePotatoes · 17/03/2018 14:09

Yes definitely a big difference, I don't drink fizzy pop but used to drink a fair bit of diet coke...diet Pepsi is horrible and I can't drink it.

Nanny0gg · 17/03/2018 14:11

Years ago iirc they tasted very similar. Nowadays Pepsi tastes like all the generic colas and is utterly disgusting.

HateSummer · 17/03/2018 14:11

Coke and Pepsi taste completely different. I prefer come.

MayFayner · 17/03/2018 14:11

I feel this way about 7up and Sprite. I hate Sprite! And I think it has aspartame in it now too.

HateSummer · 17/03/2018 14:12

Oh god, I prefer COKE!

ImTheMary · 17/03/2018 14:12

Pepsi is far superior to Coke so I actually always ask for Pepsi and they never say "Is coke ok?" For some reason
