To think Coke and Pepsi aren't the same drink?

First world problems I know. Grin

I find that most of the time, despite listing "Coca-Cola", takeaways etc almost always send Pepsi instead.

It's not as bad as sending the diet version (ugh) so I wouldn't complain, but it's still not as nice and isn't the same drink. I suppose they do it because it's cheaper.

Was in a restaurant once and the guy tried to convince us that coke and Pepsi are the same drink and are made with the exact same ingredients...!

Explain the different taste then. Grin

Coke zero and diet coke are definitely not the same taste.

sprinkleofsunshine · 17/03/2018 14:30

Bug bear of mine because most restaurants serve Pepsi only, and when I ask got coke they always say ' it's Pepsi is that ok?' It's not the same, coke is much nicer...preferably in a glass bottle!

LizzieLestrange · 17/03/2018 14:32

I prefer Pepsi.

FizzyGreenWater · 17/03/2018 14:38

It's like Hoover being said when you mean vacuum cleaner.

Coke is kind of generic for cola isn't it?

I don't like either but I do get your point, but you are fighting a losing battle.

happymummy12345 · 17/03/2018 14:39

They taste completely different. I could tell the difference easily.

mamahanji · 17/03/2018 14:43

Coke is disgusting. Only Pepsi Maxx is good

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/03/2018 14:47

They are definitely not the same. I will drink either but I like to be told when I ask for a coke that it's pepsi they are serving. I can taste the difference between all the versions, diet, caffeine free, zero or max. I can actually tell the difference in where it's been canned or whether it's a can or a bottle but only between 2 of the same type of drink though.

GrooovyLass · 17/03/2018 14:49

They may have similar ingredients but they taste totally different. Pepsi Max is my favourite.

Just to throw another spanner in, the listed ingredients on Pepsi Max and diet Dr Pepper are identical, and nobody would ever say they taste the same!

Floralnomad · 17/03/2018 14:52

They definitely taste different . In our house we have a coke drinker ( red coke) and a Pepsi max drinker and they cannot be fooled by other brands etc . I drink neither anymore but when I did I preferred Pepsi Max but mainly because I prescribed it as less fattening than red coke .

notapizzaeater · 17/03/2018 14:53

They taste totally different, ds prefers Pepsi I prefer Coke cola .

If we get them mixed up we know !

Luckyme2 · 17/03/2018 14:54

I can definitely taste the difference. Coke all the way for me. I find Pepsi sweeter

CandyMelts · 17/03/2018 15:00

Coke zero and diet coke are so different! Coke zero tastes like it has real sugar in it, so good!

Just went and bought a 6 pack of coke, I blame this thread

lifechangesforever · 17/03/2018 15:00

Definitely not the same.. nothing worse than when you ask for coke and they go 'is Pepsi ok?'

NO, not really!

LadyLoveYourWhat · 17/03/2018 15:01

It's against the law to pass off Pepsi as Coke, it's a civil offence, not a criminal one though. When I worked in a pub it was drummed into us to always say "Is Pepsi OK?" if we were asked for Coke. I don't know who would have sued us if we forgot, but I got the impression it was something that brands might send mystery shoppers out to test.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 17/03/2018 15:02

I don’t really drink either, only coke occasionally as a mixer. There’s a big difference in the taste. I far prefer Coke, I’d never choose to have Pepsi, but would drink it if a friend used it as a mixer, but I’ve yet to meet a ‘cola’ I can drink. As for cola sweets....bleurgh!

They’re definitely not ‘the same drink’. It’s like asking for a latte and being given instant coffee with milk in it.

Pinkvoid · 17/03/2018 15:11

They taste totally different. If you did blind taste tests I bet most people could differentiate.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 17/03/2018 15:21

They taste completely different.

SadieHH · 17/03/2018 15:25

Pepsi and Coke taste completely different. Coke Zero is totally not the same as diet coke. Having said all that, I’m currently addicted to Mango Diet Coke so the rest make no odds to me!

flirtygirl · 17/03/2018 15:27

I like coke zero but love pepsi max. Pepsi is infinitely superior.

Diet coke has the worst taste and id rather drink water than diet coke and diet pepsi is meh.

Red coke is full of sugar and even though im nearly 40, i still get hyper if i drink it and id rather have chocolate instead.

But the stuff of dreams is rootbeer.

malmi · 17/03/2018 15:29

Places are allowed to serve both but they may prefer to do a corporate deal with one or the other to get the syrup and dispenser cheaply in exchange for exclusivity.

Pepsi Max Cherry all the way for me!

Graphista · 17/03/2018 15:30

Apologies - morecambe and wise then - still made me smile.

Vodka and come EnvyGrin

Coke - the original and best ultimately

Who would/could sue? Coca Cola presumably.

I'm guessing the person who mentioned carrots earlier knows cola is a carrot and apple juice based drink?

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 17/03/2018 15:30

Pepsi tastes like weird gross chemicals while coke tastes like yummy delicious chemicals.

Figgygal · 17/03/2018 15:31

Absolutely I love Pepsi max any coke product and even Diet Pepsi is vastly different and inferior

GrooovyLass · 17/03/2018 15:35

And may I just suggest cherry Pepsi Max mixed with Dr Pepper - a bakewell tart in a glass. Especially nice with vodka...

Btw does anyone else remember the Pepsi challenge?

MongerTruffle · 17/03/2018 15:37

But coke (I think) specifically refers to Coca Cola as a shortening of Coca
It does. Coke is a trademark of The Coca-Cola Company.
