To ask is your dishwasher worth it?

We don’t have a dishwasher, but I’d really like one. Are they worth it, are they expensive to run and do they do the job better?

HotCrossBunFight · 06/03/2018 16:07

Yes, definitely yes.

dreamingofsun · 06/03/2018 16:08

yes worth it....dont know about cost and even if they did a slightly worse job (which they dont) i'd still say they are worth it. In theory they can wash on a very hot setting so i think they tend to kill germs better

DataColour · 06/03/2018 16:08

Yes! We didn't use to have one and always thought it wasn't an essential, but we moved into a house with a dishwasher, and it is amazing. Couldn't do without one now.

WorkingBling · 06/03/2018 16:08

I have a surprising number of friends who have TWO. Honestly. I find that mind boggling. But I wouldn't be without mine so I can kind of see the value! Get one.

I also seem to recall that they are environmentally friendlier and use significantly less water than washing by hand.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 06/03/2018 16:08

I no longer have my dishwasher (no room in current house) but as soon as we move I will be getting one again... so yes! Definitely worth it!

Falconhoof1 · 06/03/2018 16:08

I love mine 💓

sw2102 · 06/03/2018 16:09

Yes!

CoalitionOfChaos · 06/03/2018 16:09

Is your washing machine worth it or do you prefer to wash your clothes in the sink?
Same difference, a machine that does the work for you, no brainer.

MoneyWhatMoney · 06/03/2018 16:10

No idea what it costs to run tbh as we've always had one. It is worth every penny. I think we spent about £200 on ours a few years ago when the second hand one we were gifted finally gave up.

Benefits include -
no arguing about who's turn it is to do the dishes
Somewhere to chuck all dirty plates / saucepans / glasses if you have an unexpected visitor
It's easy to clean as you go when cooking
Is a brilliant thing to cause rows over (mainly about how to stack it correctly - I do it the right way, obviously) Grin

CavoliRiscaldati · 06/03/2018 16:10

Hell yes! So worth it!

They are not expensive to run, the newest models have very long but economical programs, they use less water than we waste, Asda tablets are dirty cheap, everything is much cleaner, and it makes cooking less of chore when you know you won't have any dirty pan to wash. Utter bliss.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 06/03/2018 16:10

Absolutely. It’s the best thing we've ever bought! I couldn’t live without one now.

Onekidnoclue · 06/03/2018 16:12

Yes! I love mine perhaps more than anything else in the house

blueyacht · 06/03/2018 16:12

Totally worth it. Invented by a woman too Smile

Stephisaur · 06/03/2018 16:13

SOOOO worth it. No idea on the running costs as we got ours when we moved into this house, so always paid for it iykwim?

It's so much easier to just shove dirty stuff in it that take the time washing it up, and I don't pre-rinse the plates either. It hasn't died a death yet so don't worry about that :)

DenPerry · 06/03/2018 16:14

Yes yes yes! Just got my first one and it's amazing, my life is so much better not washing up.

Trinity66 · 06/03/2018 16:14

yes a million times yes

CavoliRiscaldati · 06/03/2018 16:15

Instruction manuals actually advise you not to pre-rinse - scrap the food in the bins first of course.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/03/2018 16:16

Ours broke today. New one comes tomorrow.

MistyMinge · 06/03/2018 16:16

We got a dishwasher about a year ago. I could not be without it now. At the end of a long day having to face washing up after a meal for four of us used to really piss me off. Now I put virtually everything in. Bloody brilliant.

Get one. You won't regret it!

LaurieMarlow · 06/03/2018 16:17

I have two, that's how much I love mine. Cannot imagine life without them.

There are so many advantages; keeps your counters tidy, avoids the tedium of washing dishes, everything comes out nice and sparkly, small children can be trained to put their own dirty crockery away. They're not even that expensive.

Worldsworstcook · 06/03/2018 16:18

Do you need to ask! No questions needed. Just go get one!!
