To think Cornwall is much nicer than Devon?

Can anyone convince me otherwise?

I go to Cornwall every year and I love it.

Someone I know keeps telling me that Devon is nicer, so what am I missing?

No idea. I live in Cornwall.

LRL2017 · 26/02/2018 16:40

For me it has to be Devon. Croyde bay to be exact! But it is where my DH proposed and I can't wait to take our baby! We have had lots of holidays with friends there and just love it!

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 26/02/2018 16:43

Dorset is best of the bunch.

beepthemeep · 26/02/2018 16:45

Depends whether you want your jam on first or your cream on first.....

backs away slowly

4yoniD · 26/02/2018 16:48

I've done both and like both. But then I'm more about activities than beaches.

ghostyslovesheets · 26/02/2018 16:49

Somerset for me Grin followed by Dorset

Mintylemons · 26/02/2018 16:51

I go to Devon twice a year, but mainly because Cornwall is that bit too far to drive. Looks lush though. When the kids are older.

SilverySurfer · 26/02/2018 16:52

If you haven't been to Devon, which IMO is just as lovely, how do you know?

LakieLady · 26/02/2018 16:52

I prefer Cornwall. It's a bit wilder, the landscape more varied and the towns less developed. It feels different from the rest of the southwest imo.

Devon is nice though, especially the South Hams and Dartmoor.

beepthemeep · 26/02/2018 16:53

Mintylemons - we fly to Newquay when we go. If you book in advance it's cheaper than the train, and you don't get those 7 hour traffic jams that you get in school holidays! Hire a car when you get there.

TheSconeOfStone · 26/02/2018 16:56

I live in Devon but prefer Cornwall for holidays. The Cornish are less friendly in my experience. Cornwall is wild and beautiful and I love it.

Iprefercoffeetotea · 26/02/2018 16:58

They are both very nice. But the problem with Cornwall is that everyone goes there in the summer holidays. If you like crowds I'm sure it's wonderful. I don't! If you can avoid the school holidays it's very different.

Most of Devon is a bit quieter, even in the holidays. And unless you fly, you have to go through it to get to Cornwall anyway, so why not stop and have a shorter journey for just as nice a place.

howabout · 26/02/2018 16:59

Devon. Went on Honeymoon to Croyde. Devon much friendlier and more accessible. Also beaches cleaner last I checked.

Thistlebelle · 26/02/2018 17:03

They are both very far away and very expensive. I prefer the highlands.

But if you like Cornwall why is it anyone else’s business?

BackforGood · 26/02/2018 17:04

Like Iprefer says, the massive off put of Cornwall, is the HOURS upon HOURS of traffic on a Saturday in August in order to get there.
Then the crowds (incl crowded roads) once you eventually get there.
Oh, plus the prices!

Mrswoollyfromwoollylane · 26/02/2018 17:05

I have been to Devon quite a few times but I wasn't keen, but I wonder if I've been to the wrong places.

It's not anyone's business I'm just wondering what I'm missing really.

OP posts:
FuzzyCustard · 26/02/2018 17:07

The bit of Cornwall where I live really does not get clogged up with traffic even in the summer. Three cars in a row is a traffic jam here!

Maybe we are just not fashionable!

(But we have the best beaches and amazing scenery)

loverofcake983 · 26/02/2018 17:12

I'm from Cornwall too. I love it -I just stay away from all the touristy places in the summer as it's a frigging nightmare

ReinettePompadour · 26/02/2018 17:14

I prefer anywhere else tbh. The worst holidays we have ever had were all in cornwall. Its crowded, very run down with very glaringly obvious poverty that most people cant seem to see, foods ok at best, very expensive and its miles away from everywhere.

GeorgeHerbert · 26/02/2018 17:16

Forget Devon or Cornwall, go the the West coast of Scotland. Makes you forget anywhere else!

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 26/02/2018 17:19

Reinette, you must visit a different Cornwall to the one I go to.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 26/02/2018 17:20

Fuzzy, we may go to the same area!

Tortycat · 26/02/2018 17:30

Fuzzy - where do you live??

Twocatsonebaby · 26/02/2018 17:36

Cornwall looks beautiful. My parents took me when I was around 2 so I can't really remember it.. But Devon is nice too. Clovelly is lovely

RollTopBath · 26/02/2018 17:55

I prefer Devon to Cornwall. Friends have a house in Polzeath but we weren’t impressed with the beach or town. They let cars park on the beach! Daymer bay is nicer but do I compare to South Sands and East Portlemouth.
The South hams are delightful. Lovely towns like Dartmouth and Salcombe. Fantastic restaurants. Good walking. The beach’s are lovely with so many choices and good, safe swimming.
