To think breakfast is going to be impossible?

I've decided to try and get a handle on my carb and alcohol intake. I'm not overweight particularly but I'm wobbly, tired and my skin looks like crap. I don't have a sweet tooth but bloody love bread, crisps, pastry and potatoes.

I've been doing a bit of planning/research. I don't want to shell out ££££s for a specific "plan" but just want to make adaptations to what I do now (so foregoing bacon filled brioche and the gorgeous Pret ham cheese and bacon croissants that I'm currently addicted to. Blush ) generally reducing carbs and upping the amount of veg, lean protein and good fats.

I've gathered I should eat low carb (approx 50g a day?) unless I've worked out and then I can have a higher carb meal within a couple of hours of a workout In the week I can only work out in the evening so can have a few carbs with dinner if I go low/no carb for breakfast and lunch....

Therein lies the rub. What the hell can I have for breakfast?

I leave the house at 7am for work so it has to be something very quick that I can eat at home or prepped the night before to take to work. I got all excited about overnight oats until I realised they are very carby indeed. As is my other go to of fruit and yoghurt.

Eggs are a bit tricky as I only like yolk and white combined so scrambled or frittata or omelette ok but not a hard boiled egg. Realistically I'm not going to be whipping out a frying pan at 6am to make scrambled eggs and spinach or pancakes etc.

I could wait until I get to work and buy something but this is what I do now and I need to break the cycle of buying something I shouldn't.

Any ideas oh wise low carbing mumsnetters?

Make a crustless quiche (1/2 cup cream to 1 egg ratio), to which you can add grated cheese, and/or chopped bacon, broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, whatever you fancy really. Leave it n the fridge overnight and cut a slice each day for breakfast.

I’m low carbing most days and have a few tablespoons of Greek yoghurt. I’m like you with eggs and have to get up early. You can have some berries with the yoghurt( I don’t because I’m not organised enough!)

Omelettes microwave pretty well. Just make them ahead as zap as required.

Scrambled eggs can also be done in the microwave if you have one of those at work?

We make scrambled eggs in the microwave - it's super quick and turns out really well. Takes about the same time as preparing a bowl of microwave porridge. DH introduced me to that technique.

Don't over complicate it. Just have the overnight oats. Yes they are carby but so much better than pastries ect. Add some seeds/nuts a handful of berries and some yogurt. Generally just try to lower the amount of carbs you eat rather than totally get rid of them.

You could make a batch on Sunday and then reheat them through the week. Could also use different fillings like ham/different veg.

I make scrambled eggs and have them with low sugar baked beans x heat when I get to work and eat as I'm getting bits ready.

I eat a lot of cheese when low carbing. Cheese and chorizo is a quick no-cook breakfast for me.

Geek yoghurt, spoonful of chopped nuts and some 90% dark chocolate. Protein shake with some peanut butter and Greek yoghurt added. Or some protein pancakes?

The food plan you've outlined is basically Joe Wicks the body coach - take a look at his recipes online/books? You don't have to shell out for the plan, you can just use those and there's loads of breakfast ideas.

Full fat Greek yogurt, berries and flaxseed is my go to breakfast during the week. I pot it up the night before.

That’s as part of the 800 cals a day I’m allowed on the Blood Sugar Diet.

I have to take my breakfast to work so have a small portion of berries, a natural yogurt and 20g raw oats. Mix together when I arrive and eat while doing my emails.

You dont have to have breakfast. Lots of people do intermittent fasting.
If you really need something try some nuts or an avocado- both very filling.
Eggs are good. Cold meat? I sometimes cook extra chicken breasts and chop them up for a portable breakfast or lunch.

Some great ideas here thank you! Liking the idea of making a "quiche" and having a slice of that each morning.

I didn't think about making eggs at work. I could try that as long as the smell wasn't too offensive for an office environment.

I adore greek yoghurt and have ordered some coconut yoghurt to try. Thought berries were too carby to add though but perhaps not. Would just a few tablespoons of yoghurt fill me up enough though?

I like cottage cheese too - what do you have it with notso?

natural yogurt is fine and once you've been off sugar for a while, will taste very sweet without anything added.

Lidl protein rolls are around 9g each (9g per 100g). Freeze a batch of them and eat 1/2 of one toasted with any low carb topping you like (ham,cheese,smoked salmon, avocado with low carb mayo perhaps..).
By the way to previous posters - bananas and reduced sugar beans aren't low-carb. The OP would struggle to keep below 50g carbs per day if she had those. Her veg and salads alone will be around 20g each day.

Veggie sausages cooked night before to have with egg or beans. I have yogurt a lot and sometimes add some homemade granola (not particularly low carb but just don't have too much). Portobello mushrooms with goats cheese and pine nuts, doesn't take long to grill them.

Derelict I have been looking at JW yes! Like the look of a lot of his food but most of the breakfasts I've found are a bit involved for a work day morning when I have to leave so early...except the famous overnight oats!
