Which theories, dismissed by many as conspiracy theories, do you regard as the truth?

Crunchymint

But if you are going to assert "possibilities" without evidence, then why not go the whole hog and suggest alien invasion or a Godzilla attack?

Anything is "possible" which is why it's important to follow evidence. Why do so few people understand this?

Backenette · 18/02/2018 18:24

And floride. Again, there is no way top scientific peopke don't know the deadly side effects of poisoining our drinking water. It's an easy and cheap way of getting rid of a waste product.

Oh for the love of god.., it’s not toxic in the doses used in drinking water. It helps to prevent dental decay.

What shall we do with this waste fluoride?
I dunno Mitch, it has applications in industry and science, we could sell it, or dispose of it safely?
Nah - let’s introduce it to the drinking water via several tens of thousands of individual treatment plants.
Great idea! That’s cheap and easy..

The fluoride people are insane.

What do people think about the rich buying land in NZ in prep for doomsday. Paranoid or do they know something we don’t?

madeyemoodysmum · 18/02/2018 18:26

Jfk

Backenette · 18/02/2018 18:27

they were quikly set up to be demolished.

You don’t quickly set a building up to be demolished- didn’t you see the red toad flats go down? Months of work, modelling, specialist crews. It’s not like the movies where Han and chewie go in with a backpack full of charges and just clip them into columns.

The real nasty stuff about it all is we’ve never found out who funded it or ordered it.

Mc180768 · 18/02/2018 18:32

Love this thread.

Diana was bumped off because of her pregnancy with Dodi. No way the establishment was going to have a Muslim half brother or sister of the future Monarch.

MrsJoshDun · 18/02/2018 18:34

That scientist who was investigating something to do with weapons in Iraq and was found dead under a tree. Supposed suicide but the paramedics said there was barely any blood and only a tiny wound to the wrist.

pennepasta · 18/02/2018 18:34

I believe a lot of the terrorists are set up/used by the governments. That they monitor people who show they interest in radicalised views and exploit them/recruit them...

It's possible that the security services in the US heard some intelligence about 9/11 but did not think it was credible

Your evidence for this?

9/11 is not a conspiracy, but for evidence it was pretty much accepted

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/terrorism-in-the-uk/6262491/MI5-warned-that-bin-Laden-was-planning-attacks-on-morning-of-911.html

www.nytimes.com/2012/09/11/opinion/the-bush-white-house-was-deaf-to-9-11-warnings.html

As I say on all of these threads, MKUltra and the fact that US and UK agencies where dragnetting all internet traffic was considered way out there conspiracies at one point.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 18/02/2018 18:39

I love how people get so worked up about these things. At the end of the day conspiracy theories are there to make you think about events and situations differently from what you’ve been told. It’s a fun to think about things from all angles. Most likely will never know the truth about millions of events past and present. 80% of people believe what they see or are told. I like that people can draw up thier own conclusions. Signs of a healthy imagination.

safariboot · 18/02/2018 18:47

I think area 51 is so secretive (but known by the world! )because the US government wants people's attention on it.

That's my thought too. Area 51 was used to work on new secret weapons like the SR-71 spyplane, but I reckon now the really secret stuff is done somewhere else, Area 51 is just too high-profile.

Does anyone know how we ever got through the van allen (sp?) belt?

By not hanging around. The Apollo spacecraft only spent a few hours in the Van Allen belts and the mission planners chose a trajectory to avoid the strongest parts. The capsule also provided some shielding. It'd take weeks or months of orbiting in the belts to accumulate a dangerous radiation dose.

Regarding 9/11 there has never been another 100-storey building collapse either controlled or uncontrolled before or since. Meaning there's nothing to compare to when it comes to trying to decide whether or not the collapses appear to be the result of fully-fuelled wide-body jet (much larger than the planes that existed when the towers were designed) hitting the upper floors. As for WTC7, well several other neighbouring buildings suffered similar damage, but different buildings have different construction, it's not difficult to imagine some might collapse more easily than others.

The only 'conspiracy theory' I believe is that Jeremy Hunt and the rest of the Conservative party are deliberately running the NHS into the ground (so they can get more support for abandoning the idea of free national health and move over to an US-style health insurance system).

Now this is the one I believe. Maybe others here can tear it apart.

And a general note to anybody who thinks the 'mainstream media' have some kind of agenda, well the people who promote conspiracy theories have their own agendas! Even if it's just to sell books, which quite a few conspiracy theorists have made some nice money out of.

The issue is whether the US received intelligence that the Twin Towers & Pentagon (plus possibly The White House) were targets in the run up to the attacks & either didn't think the info credible or couldn't do anything about it.

That they received whispers that Bin Laden was planning to attack the US, I don't doubt. They probably had frequent reports of that.

So, no, sorry...there's no evidence for what the previous posters were saying.

SilverySurfer · 18/02/2018 18:50

Re 9/11 I don't know about the twin towers but there was something deeply dodgy about the plane that supposedly crashed into the Pentagon.

Charles is 100% Harry's father.

100% agree with Emmcan re Madeleine McCann

Found some fascinating videos on Youtube asserting that Obama is gay, that Michele is/was a man called Michael and their children are adopted. There's even a video of Obama giving a speech where he refers to Michele who is there and he calls her Michael. Mind boggling.

There are also interesting videos on the Clintons with some very dodgy goings on.

I don't know if the moon landing happened or not but if proved to be fake I wouldn't be shocked. The US was under huge pressure from the Russians in the space race.

Meandmy4 · 18/02/2018 18:52

Diana ... AS if they were ever going to allow a muslim to be step father to future king !
Swapped driver/bodyguard last minute,it all happened in a tunnel.Hmm
Diana was and had always been hounded by the "press" Never have they caused a death .... before or after Diana !
Diana was pulled free from wreckage and was also very much alive ... obviously some severe injuries, then she dies in hospital ... leave off as if !!
Murdered !

TabbyMack · 18/02/2018 18:52

Signs of a healthy imagination

What? It's the sign of a "healthy imagination" to believe that murdered children weren't really murdered and it was all some government cover-up or hoax?

Thisusernamethingistricky · 18/02/2018 18:55

How can people actually believe that the moon landings were faked? Confused

gussyfinknottle · 18/02/2018 18:55

Worryingly batty posts on here. Or stupidly laughable.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 18/02/2018 18:56

@Meandmy4
Totally agree. I’ve always said this...

FountainOfGerkins · 18/02/2018 18:58

I think it's very suspicious that the person who made this film (never released) was found dead in suspicious circumstances (google it it's quite interesting.)

m.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy7FVXERKFE
Trailer here.
I don't know what I believe but it seems awfully fishy tbh

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 18/02/2018 18:59

@tabbymack
Except maybe that because I certainly don’t believe that sandy hook was fake. That’s just because USA can’t and won’t get a grip on gun control.
Maybe probably not the best explanation but the best I could explain in words. It’s good for people to have an imagination to a certain extent....

Backenette · 18/02/2018 19:01

Signs of a healthy imagination

Or poor critical thinking and gullibility

HolyShmoly · 18/02/2018 19:03

Does anyone know of any decent podcasts that discuss conspiracy theories? In my dreams it would be by Jon Ronson, but I would be happy with one that's well researched and respectful but doesn't take itself too seriously.

People who spew hatred towards survivors and family members of victims because of their conspiracy theories, like Sandy Hook, are disgusting though. I have family who live nearby and knew some of the victims, it's horrific that people would make them suffer more.

Amanduh · 18/02/2018 19:08

I used to believe the Prince Harry one when I was younger, but not anymore. Now he’s older, going bald and less attractive, he looks EXACTLY like Charles.
No way was 911 fake/set up.
However the Area 51 stuff is the one I really do believe!

TrustNaeFuckerEver · 18/02/2018 19:09

There were some odd discrepancies in the way that Sandy Hook was dealt with compared to other school shootings in the US. That's understandable as the others were high school shootings and this was young children. I think that's why it's been jumped on by conspiracy theorists.

The video of the Emilie Parker's father laughing (when he didn't realise he was on camera) then switching to deep breaths and an emotional statement was quite disturbing. This has been explained as a psychological response to a sudden, unimaginable tragedy with his emotions out of control, but also helps to fuel conspiracy theories.
