Aldi candles

AIBU to say that the Aldi, no 1, no 2 etc candles, which are much hyped to be amazing dupes of jo malone candles, are totally scentless and a complete waste of money?!

That's so weird! I was just saying to DH how pleased I've been with my Aldi Candles and then this thread pops up!

I really do like them. I've got a 2 and a 3 and they smell wonderful to me. I'm planning on buying a few more next time I go shopping.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 16/02/2018 23:00

I'd love I be able to have reed diffusers in my house but my cats would try to eat them.

youngestisapsycho · 16/02/2018 23:00

I treated myself to a Jo Malone candle at Christmas.... it hardly smells
at all 🙁

Mrsmadevans · 16/02/2018 23:01

they smell awful we have been saying this on the Christmas threads for ages

hushnowthanks · 16/02/2018 23:11

I’m with @pimmsypimms on this one - Sainsbury’s candles/reed diffusers are AMAZING. Nothing brings me greater joy than bulk purchasing them in the sale. I also love the Next reed diffuser in Miami scent, it smells of beaches and happiness.

YANBU regarding Aldi’s Jo Malone ripoff - the reed diffuser lasted no more than two weeks and I literally had to shove the bottle up my nostril to be able to smell it

ladymariner · 16/02/2018 23:15

I like them, and the number 3 reed diffuser is lovely. I've just bought a set of three, because I liked them so much. For £10 for the set you can't go wrong.

expatinscotland · 16/02/2018 23:17

Shearer and St Eval candles all the way. They're not expensive and far stronger. I don't use reed diffusers as have cats.

longtompot · 16/02/2018 23:18

Not tried the Aldi candles, but I agree St Eval candles are the best. Especially their seasalt one. Divine Smile

IvorHughJarrs · 16/02/2018 23:27

I have been moaning that there is no scent to them so took the rip-off of Lime, Basil and Mandarin into work and it does scent my office so maybe they are just not strong enough for big rooms

Didiusfalco · 16/02/2018 23:34

@Greenteaandchives which are the best St Eval ones?

I had a great rhubarb flower candle from M&S the other week - not expensive and really strong smell.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 16/02/2018 23:39

I haven't tried the Aldi candles but have the primark and they smell of nothing. I now just use cheap wax melts and they scent the rooms wonderfully.

Slightly off from candles/reed diffusers but I bought some Christmas-y pot pourri (sp?) 3 years ago - it comes out over December and then after four weeks goes back in a ziploc bag until the following year and the scent is still so strong!

GodIsDead · 16/02/2018 23:43

Try Ikea candles, they are amazing.

expatinscotland · 16/02/2018 23:49

Seasalt and Bay and Rosemary St Eval ones.

EachandEveryone · 16/02/2018 23:57

I also like the Sainsburys ones.

I get mine from tk maxx.

PeachMelba78 · 17/02/2018 06:59

I make my own soya candles - I always use loads of fragrance and you can create any combination you like!

Nquartz · 17/02/2018 07:29

I have a reed diffuser, could only smell it in the kitchen of stood right in front of it, relocated to the toilet (4 feet square room!) & it smells great. Won't buy it again

Greenteandchives · 17/02/2018 17:14

Didius I bought the sea salt, the bay and rosemary, and lemon and thyme. They all smell lovely. I haven’t burnt them yet, but as I said, they smell quite strong.
Anyone in Cornwall at any time, the factory is open to visitors, and there is a little shop attached.

Ilovechocolatebuttons · 17/02/2018 17:39

I have a £50 Jo Malone and a £2.99 Aldi - the Aldi version has more scent.

Anymajordude · 17/02/2018 17:46

The Rose Aldi candle is fragrant but the sandalwood one didn't have much scent.

Readermumof3 · 17/02/2018 17:52

I'm currently burning No3 but have a No1 to burn too. Having never smelt one of the pricey candles, it's smells great to me. Much less synthetic than Yankee Candles which give me a headache. I'm a total Aldi candle convert.

Birdbath99 · 17/02/2018 17:52

I love them and they have a strong smell. I have No2 burning now and a No4 reed diffuser in the bathroom.

Cornettoninja · 17/02/2018 17:57

I can vouch for Sainsbury's reed diffusers although I haven't used them in a while because they made me feel nauseous back when I was pregnant.

I'm taking a punt on an Avon candle hoping they'll be half decent.

Greenteandchives · 17/02/2018 17:58

I agree Reader. Yankee Candles are overpowering and smell synthetic. It’s hard to get just the right amount of scent in a candle. Pity about your Jo Malone, Ilove.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 17/02/2018 21:18

Love them have number 3 reed diffuser and candle burning and can smell them but agree they are better in smaller rooms. Gone off Yankee candles as they smell so synthetic but really love the M&S ones especially Lavender and Chamomile

dontcallmelen · 19/02/2018 20:28

@samewitches I got the ‘rose oud’ ones, they were about six pounds I think so not the cheap as chips ones, have lasted well & quite pleasant smelling.
