Aldi candles

AIBU to say that the Aldi, no 1, no 2 etc candles, which are much hyped to be amazing dupes of jo malone candles, are totally scentless and a complete waste of money?!

Agree. I bought one after many recommended them on another thread. Big fat letdown.

SheilaTakeABow · 16/02/2018 22:03

I had some when they first did them and they were pretty good with a very noticeable smell. The last few I've had have been totally scentless - maybe they're skimping now they've realised how successful they were?

dontcallmelen · 16/02/2018 22:04

Yy very disappointing, the primark reed diffusers are really good though.

Minster2012 · 16/02/2018 22:05

The aldi reed diffusers are very good

mumsypig14 · 16/02/2018 22:06

YABU for £2.99 (I think) the no.2 smells beautiful. I love it.

They are fast burning though

Pinkponiesrock · 16/02/2018 22:06

Shelia totally agree, the first two I bought were fab, really nice scent but the mountain I bought at Christmas because I loved the first ones smelt of nothing!

So disappointedSad first world problems and all that.

Greenteandchives · 16/02/2018 22:06

That’s a shame. I have just bought some after reading about them on here.
I also went to the St Eval factory when we were in Cornwall recently, and bought some there. I can smell them even though they have not been lit!

Lanaa · 16/02/2018 22:07

Agree they're shite. They smell of nothing. Mist of the reed diffusers are crap too. The only one that has a decent throw is the Pomegranate Noir one.

Moggie45 · 16/02/2018 22:07

Agree, the last few I have had have been rubbish. Although have recently discovered the pomegranate burner oil from Primark .. at £1 (smells exactly jo malone).

blondetamzin · 16/02/2018 22:08

agreed. don't waste your money.

Pinkponiesrock · 16/02/2018 22:08

Matalans reed diffusers, the 2 for £6 ones are rubbish!

I got some in Lidl or ALDI that were but I think they might have been ambi pur ones.

Bixx · 16/02/2018 22:09

Yeah I thought they were a bit crap too. Smell nice if you’ve got your face 2 inches from them (which isn’t really a good idea!) but don’t do much to fragrance a room. I don’t suppose you can expect much for £2.99 though.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 16/02/2018 22:11

My friend bought an Aldi candle and the glass got far too hot and burned her kitchen worktop, the whole section needed replaced. So I give them a wide berth when I'm loitering round the middle aisles of randomness Grin

Gigimoll · 16/02/2018 22:11

I was desperate to smell them but my aldi didn't stock it for months.

I was gobsmacked when I smelt it. It was vile Envy all 3 of them actually!

If you're going to spend the money, The White Company do the best scents

nevermindthebollox · 16/02/2018 22:13

Glad to know it's not just my sense of smell, I was expecting big things! A shopping trip for some reed diffusers is on the cards soon then! Yes first world problems but it's Friday which means it's wine and candles in my world Wink

OP posts:
Franklyyes · 16/02/2018 22:26

It's a hype - they are nothing like decent candles they smell awful!! Don't waste your money!

Samewitches · 16/02/2018 22:29

Dont really? I found the Primark ones were shit, about as much smell as the pound shop reeds! Which one did you get?

k2p2k2tog · 16/02/2018 22:33

I bought a diffuser and was very disappointed.

Shearer candles all the way.

roses2 · 16/02/2018 22:36

I have the aldi pomegranate noir diffuser and was disappointed. Great scent for about 5 days then nothing despite the jar being nearly full of oil.

Sallystyle · 16/02/2018 22:40

I got one today. I forgot I had lit it for a while because it smelled of exactly nothing.

It didn't even burn evenly, despite burning it for hours.

Complete disappointment. I did get one before and it did have a slight smell, but this one nothing. I thought I would try another out just incase.

wineusuallyhelps · 16/02/2018 22:50

That's strange! I find no. 3 is lovely. I've had several.

1 and 2 don't smell of anything much, though.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/02/2018 22:52

They're nothing like Jo Malone candles. Not worth a comparison even.

The thread praising them to the heavens was a perfect example of 'Emperor's new clothes'. Grin

Chuck all your loose change into a pot and save up for an authentic one; they're worth every penny.

Pimmsypimms · 16/02/2018 22:55

I think the Sainsbury’s candles and reed diffusers are good. The diffusers last for a long time and their candles are very fragrant, especially the Christmas candles.

PolaDeVeboise · 16/02/2018 22:57

IME, candles - rubbish, diffusers, BRILLIANT.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 16/02/2018 22:58

Mine are burning now. I can smell them and the reed diffuser too.
