My 6 YO DD is in bed by 7:30 pm with lights off and asleep by 8 pm at the latest. She is in year 1 and according to her teacher 7:30 is late as bedtime for her. What time do/did your DC of similar age go to bed?

DD is 5 & goes to bed to sleep at 7.30pm on a school night. Works great, she wakes up any time between 7-7.30pm every day

GhostWriter666 · 10/02/2018 20:57

On school nights my 6yr old (yr1) goes to bed at 6.30. Lights out straight away and she's asleep by the time her brother goes to bed at 7.00. (He's 9 and can read until 7.30 then it's lights out)
They both get woken at 7am to get up.

NoSquirrels · 10/02/2018 20:57

according to her teacher 7:30 is late as bedtime for her

I think the for her is telling. Is she really struggling to concentrate/seems tired?

My DC have had an 8pm bedtime for as long as I can remember, and it’s certainly later than average but suits them OK.

TheQueenOfWands · 10/02/2018 20:57

No idea.

He's 14 and stays up WAY later than I can manage..!

readysteadyteddy · 10/02/2018 20:58

3 and a half DS goes to bed at 7.30, wakes between 6 and 7 in the morning.

FissionChips · 10/02/2018 20:58

6:30, asleep by 7pm. Wakes at 6am.

FissionChips · 10/02/2018 20:59

She’s 5 btw.

hidinginthenightgarden · 10/02/2018 20:59

5 year old is asleep by 8pm. 2.5 year old asleep by 7.30.

Dljlr · 10/02/2018 20:59

DS is 7 and is in bed by 8 on school nights and 9 on holidays (doing this while supervising teeth brushing). My ex always insisted on a 7pm bedtime and it was miserable because DS would just be traipsing downstairs insisting he couldn't sleep, and I'd always have to deal. 8 works for us, but his best mate with the same birthday is always asleep by 7. Kids, like adults, are all different with different sleep patterns and needs. Do what works for your family, and unless your DC is dozing off in class or exhibiting other signs of undue tiredness it's really none of the teacher's business.

DaveyouareanuttertwatDave · 10/02/2018 20:59

Nearly 8 yr old DD in bed by 7:45/8, asleep by 8:30. She wakes up naturally around 7:30/7:45am. Allowed to go to bed a little later on Fri/sat nights and in the school holidays

MumGoneMild · 10/02/2018 21:00

7 year old - 7:30
15 year old - no bedtime but usually 10/11ish but will go earlier if tired

Mol1628 · 10/02/2018 21:00

My 5 and 3yo go at 6pm. They are both early risers though so get up between 4 and 6 no matter what time they go to bed.

FlopsyMcDoodle · 10/02/2018 21:00

5yo in yr1 normally in bed by 8, asleep by 8.30. I’ve given up trying to put him to bed earlier, it makes us both miserable and a 8.30 bedtime suits us both well.

Liz38 · 10/02/2018 21:01

My DD now nearly 8 was earlier than that at that age but as a household we are up at 6.30 and she's usually awake before that. She loves her sleep! Now her light is put out at 7.45 and it's rare for her to take more than 5 minutes to drop off. She's still generally awake before 6.30.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/02/2018 21:01

I personally think some bedtimes are so early. Mine are 5,3 and almost 1. They all go to bed to sleep between 7.30&8 on a weekday. Little one sometimes 7pm if he's not had a good nap that day. At the weekends its more like 8-8.30 . nice to spend some time together after dh gets home from work

Lovesagin · 10/02/2018 21:01

6 and 8 here, both bed for 9ish and sleep in 5 mins. Wake themselves up around 7am

idontlikealdi · 10/02/2018 21:01

6 yo in bed by 730 asleep by 8. Wake up at 5 something every morning. We've tried going to bed later and they still get up at the same time.

CalcatrippticLego · 10/02/2018 21:01

5 and 8 yr old. Bed by 730, asleep by 8. 8 yr old wakes 530-6am, 5 yr old any time after 6, usually closer to 7 and occasionally have to wake her at 730.

Stompythedinosaur · 10/02/2018 21:05

We're upstairs at 7pm, lights out between 7.30 and 7.45 for dds age 4 and 6. They continue to wake by 6.15 am so can't be that tired.

Unless your dd is tired I'd ignore the teacher's comments tbh.

ElphabaTheGreen · 10/02/2018 21:06

5yo and 3yo in bed for about 7:50, stories then lights out at 8pm, and they're usually gone by 8:10pm. Has been this way since they were babies pretty much - no way in hell could/would they fall asleep any earlier, ever.

They never make it much past 6am when they wake up - they're usually sat up and silently willing their GroClocks to change before then. I try to look on the bright side in that they never have to be dragged out of bed for school/pre-school and they're very handy alarm clocks. She yawned.

mygorgeousmilo · 10/02/2018 21:07

Her teacher would be horrified by some of the kids bedtimes in my son’s class! My kids are all down by 7-7:30 (all under 8) but the kids at school are often up until 9-10pm or even later, and their parents seem to find this normal. My neighbour’s kids are up until midnight during weekends and holidays and they’re 2 and 8. I have seen a few times on MN about little kids having dinner at 6:30-7 and I always think that must be why they end up going to bed so late, because of the late dinner times. I guess if you don’t get back from work until 6:30 onwards then you can’t just put them straight to bed. My eldest has bags under his eyes if he goes to bed at 8

Gorja · 10/02/2018 21:09

8 and 10 year old 9pm school nights, 10pm non school nights.
12 and 14 year old I’ve no idea as I’m in bed by 9 on a school night and 10 on a non school night.

All get up for school, all doing well at school. No issues.

Shednik · 10/02/2018 21:12

My year 1 goes to bed at 7.

Year 3 goes to bed at 7.30 and reads til 8.

Year 5 goes to bed at 8 and reads til 9.

blackheartsgirl · 10/02/2018 21:15

When dd1 and ds were little they were always in bed and asleep by 7, the downside of that is that they were awake at 5.30 every morning which was hell.

Dd 2 and 3 now ten and seven have a much later bedtime, both are 9.30 in the week and wake up around half seven to 8 am and weekend up to 11 pm but they always sleep in till tenish leaving me to have a well needed lie in myself

Dd1 now 15 now any time between nine and 2 and ds I have no idea

Alexandra87 · 10/02/2018 21:18

We start bath/story bed with 3 year old at 6pm. He's asleep sometime between 6.30 and 7.
6 year old goes at 7.30 straight to sleep. Later if no school.
7 year old 8pm straight to sleep. Later if no school.
All get up at 7 for school later on weekends.
