To ask what time your DC go to bed?

My 6 YO DD is in bed by 7:30 pm with lights off and asleep by 8 pm at the latest. She is in year 1 and according to her teacher 7:30 is late as bedtime for her. What time do/did your DC of similar age go to bed?

Gymwidow bedtime is bedtime here, our mornings have to start at ridiculous o'clock or we wouldn't get to school. 3 nights a week they go to bed late because of activities. Thanks for the judgement.

There are some very early bedtimes on here. 6pm? What time do you eat tea, in the middle of the day?

Camomila · 11/02/2018 07:46

DS (nearly 2) start bedtime around 8.45 (stories, bf etc) asleep by 9.30.

He starts nursery soon so I wonder if he'll gradually move to a more traditional 'English' bedtime. But then again Italian kids also go to nursery and I don't know any that go to bed at 7. I'll play it by ear and see if he's tired/grumpy.

In year 1 Dd was in bed for 7 asleep by 7:30, frequently has to be woken for school (7:30-7:45). Ds has just never needed much sleep so it was more like 8-8:30 usually up before 7. Now dd is 11 and goes up at 8, often asleep by 8:15- still needs waking at 7:30 frequently. Ds (14) goes to bed at 9, lights out 9:30, up at 6:30.

My 3 year only is in bed at 7 and asleep by 7.30-8.00

blueandgreendots · 11/02/2018 08:24

21 month old in bed between 6.30 and 7pm and sleeps for 12 hours.

5 year old in bed by 8.30pm (or 9pm sometimes later if DH is doing bedtime Angry) and sleeps til about 7am. I do think she should be going to bed earlier but with work we're not home til nearly 6pm and it's hard to fit it all in. She also gets a ridiculous amount of homework for P1 in my opinion.

Buttocks, ridiculous o clock is a time, any time, that doesn’t suit the family. Evidently your early start fits your day so I’m guessing you wouldn’t describe it as ridiculous. The mum I was referring to used that word to describe the 5am starts - if it’s ridiculous to you then parent your kids and impose boundaries. I do judge people who let their kids rule the roost as it does them no favours overall and gives a false impression about the world revolving around them which they’ll quickly learn is not the case.

Nearly 5yo - 7:30, asleep by 8
We won't mention the 5mo

Shouldileavethedogs · 11/02/2018 08:45

Elpha and snow

1 and 2 year olds. 4pm till 6am That's voo-doo, that is. What's your secret? Piriton in a glass of milk at 3:30?

This made me chuckle. I've had 5 kids. All went at 4 till approx 6. What's funny to see is my 2 year old asking for bed at 3.30 and trying to string her out. They have all gone to bed so lovely too. However the first year is normally hell.

Ds1 is 13 and goes to bed at 830 and can use his phone until 930, then it's taken off him and he can read/listen music until 10 when it's lights out. Ds2 is 10 and goes to bed at 8, to read until 830/9 ish, then it's lights off (he can listen to music on his Alexa whilst he falls asleep though) Dd is 7 and goes to bed at 745, reads until 815/830 then it's lights off. They all lie in.if they get the chance, usually 10am if we don't need to be anywhere, but they have to get up at 7 (Ds1) and 745 (Ds2 and Dd) on schooldays. Currently all three are still asleep Smile

That's during term time, during school holidays all rules are relaxed and bedtimes are later.

Son is turning 6 in May

Lights out sleeping by 7pm.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/02/2018 09:48

Gymwidow I fucking do describe it as ridiculous! 😂 Unfortunately, we wouldn't get to school otherwise.

My DC are knackered because there are not enough hours in the day. We spend 1.5 hours a day just travelling to and from school, school is from 8.50 - 3.15, twice a week they have after school clubs until 4, once a week they have childcare/and play scheme until 6. They spend weekends catching up on sleep.

Pinkprincess1978 · 11/02/2018 10:03

Mine are almost 9 and 10. Never been good at going through bed early. They take after me and don't seem to need much sleep. On a school night I try to get them to bed at 9 but on brownies and cubs nights they don't get home till just after 8 and as they go there direct from after school club still need to eat so it's more like 9.30.

They still get up between 7/7.30am and manage fine during the day.

NotEnoughBiscuits · 11/02/2018 10:07

6yo, 9pm although often stories for half an hour after that. We live in Spain though and that's considered early here.
No siesta or anything and DC fine and not over tired.
The bed at 7ish is an English thing, I've never heard of it anywhere else.

SkaPunkPrincess · 11/02/2018 12:05

18mo between 5.30-6pm and nearly 5 yr old between 6 and 7pm, usually no later than 6.30 as he is exhausted. This routine was set by them not me. the other side of the coin to this is that 5 year old is up by 6 at the latest every morning!

BackBoiler · 11/02/2018 12:09

8-8.30 at the latest they can watch something on tv/read for half hour if they arent sleepy. Definitely all asleep for 9pm. They are 9 (Y5) 5 (Y1) and 4 (Nursery). Sometimes they go earlier if tired.

DS doesnt get home from football until nearly 8pm 2-3x a week so he does need time to wind down.

Friday and Saturday nights they go to bed when they like.
