If you said no, could you say why? And if possible, could you give examples- I know a couple of people have said that they think feminism has gone too far, and feminists think all men are rapists that sort of thing. If you think that, could you say why? What have you read, or listened to that brought you to that belief? No “tearing to shreds” I promise!

I don’t know pumper. That’s why I’m asking. So I can look at my own stance and make a determination.

Well, what do you think of my definition?

I have to agree that I've seen the OP post things like this time and time again. Asking the same things and answering questions with questions like a patronising teacher. Hardly an advertisement for feminism.

Resistance is futile! You VILL become von of us!! You VILL!!

Are you in fact a teacher Bertrand? Retired lecturer from an FE college or former polytechnic? I would put money on it.

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:37

But I thought feminists were against self-definition?

SuburbanRhonda · 10/02/2018 20:38

Why does any woman have to be an advert for feminism? Like all of us, the OP is an individual and if she has some opinions you disagree with, that’s fine. It doesn’t invalidate decades of feminism.

And maybe these questions are asked over and over again because no-one comes up with an answer that says anything other than “because I believe in equality, not feminism” or “because I don’t like men’s rights being impinged on” or “because I once met a feminist I didn’t agree with”.

Pumperthepumper · 10/02/2018 20:39

But I thought feminists were against self-definition?

Well, I’m not and I’m a feminist. What do you think of my definition?

SuburbanRhonda · 10/02/2018 20:40

Don’t look too far down your nose, francine - you’ll trip over.

NoNoNoMo · 10/02/2018 20:40

Men and women are different, whether or not people want to accept it it's the truth. Some things men are better at and some things women are better at. It's reality and people need to realise that.

Also, I would love to be a stay at home Mummy/Housekeeper but because of all the advances in feminism, it's just not possible in this day and age to live on your husbands wage unless they are earning crazy money.

waits to be ripped to pieces

NovemberWitch · 10/02/2018 20:40

So, you get the same answers over and over again, and you think a good response is to ask the same question again until you get a different one? This could go on for decades.

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:42

Pumped yourmdefinition is very different tosome of those on the Internet. I am googling and reading. I’m not sure yet I will have to read more.

SmileEachDay · 10/02/2018 20:42

I’m interested to know what women on this thread who don’t identify as feminists think about the international situation for women.

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:42

And actually. Your definition or my definition are irrelevant. For the purposes of this thread we need to know the definition the op is using.

Pumperthepumper · 10/02/2018 20:44

Bluedoglead

Is it? Can you send me a link? I would still like to hear what you think of my definition. As I said, it doesn’t suit every single feminist but it suits me and I feel it’s a fairly innocuous starting point.

SuburbanRhonda · 10/02/2018 20:44

Also, I would love to be a stay at home Mummy/Housekeeper but because of all the advances in feminism, it's just not possible in this day and age to live on your husbands wage unless they are earning crazy money.

How is your husband’s salary the fault of feminism?

Pumperthepumper · 10/02/2018 20:44

And actually. Your definition or my definition are irrelevant. For the purposes of this thread we need to know the definition the op is using.

Why?

SmileEachDay · 10/02/2018 20:44

Also, I would love to be a stay at home Mummy/Housekeeper but because of all the advances in feminism, it's just not possible in this day and age to live on your husbands wage unless they are earning crazy money.

Why is that because of advances in feminism? Plenty of women do exactly that.

NovemberWitch · 10/02/2018 20:44

Perhaps we could come up with an online quiz of 50 questions, and the result will tell the player what % feminist they are. Solve the mystery.

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:45

This is my google search www.google.co.uk/search?q=definition+of+feminism&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari and I am working my way through these links

I’m not educated, I think I’m a feminist but I don’t think that the op, nor many on MN, would say that I am

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:46

Because, pumper, I think I am a feminist but I don’t think the op will think I am. Therefore, according to her question, am I or am I not?

BertrandRussell · 10/02/2018 20:46

Fascinatingly, I haven’t started a thread like this for at least a year.

It must be like the the phenomenon where, if there are more than a third women in any group, men will say they are in a majority. One thread like this from me amid all the ones about cooking and schools and the feminism ones look like a majority.

OP posts:
HandbagKrabby · 10/02/2018 20:48

This is why there will be threads on mn forever about the men that don’t see dirt and the women that say ‘Awh bless’.

Women saying that ‘men are just better than women at important world stuff’ like it’s a fucking radical viewpoint. It’s embarrassing.

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:48

Oh Bertrand you fibber.

I can think of 2”tell me why you think trans women are women” threads in the last few months alone.

BertrandRussell · 10/02/2018 20:49

And actually. Your definition or my definition are irrelevant. For the purposes of this thread we need to know the definition the op is using”

For the purposes of this thread if we need anyone’s definition, we need the person who started the other thread’s. This was just an attempt to stop hers being derailed.

SmileEachDay · 10/02/2018 20:49

I can think of 2”tell me why you think trans women are women” threads in the last few months alone.

That’s not the same issue as this, though.

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:50

Sorry - I wasn’t clear. Two threads which start with the same kind of faux innocent questioning that’s actually all about telling anyone who does not agree with you that they’re wrong.

Bluedoglead · 10/02/2018 20:50

Smile - I’ve clarified.
