No need to go further into your reasoning if you don't want to but this has always a been curious issue to me and came up today with one of my colleagues. She is a feminist by how she described her beliefs but doesn't actually adopt the term.

@RoseWhiteTips

HAHHAAAAA you're funny.
Don't like labels 😂
I used to say that to my boyfriend when I was 12, so cute...then I grew up and realised sometimes labels are necessary.
That's like someone saying "are you British?" "Hmm... I don't like labels"

But feel I’m doing a rubbish job with the DCs as they navigate their teens.

tooyoungtobeagrandma · 09/02/2018 22:32

Yes - ever since I was 12 in 1964 and realised I was expected to stick to certain career routes. Cemented by starting work and being told there were two pay scales, one for men and one for women, because of course women could not do as good a job as men. Funnily enough when they needed a job doing properly, it was me they asked.

No I am not a Feminist, but I believe in equality between the sexes. Feminist is a bloody awful title and very old fashioned.

mommytoboo86 · 09/02/2018 22:45

WTAF So because I believe that a) equality for women has in some ways gone too far (but in some ways has a long way to go), b) I believe that in the quest for equality that men are now seen as less than by alot of women and c) that trans ARE women
d) that a woman does NOT have the moral right to get pregnant 3 times in a year, terminate all 3 of those pregnancies and then actively try for a baby just 2 months after the 3rd termination, amoung other things I am now not only an idiot but a racist too?
^ the above is probably THE most important reason why I say no I am not a feminist in the way it is used today I am neither an idiot nor a racist which is why I can see how stupid 'feminism' as it's used today is completely fucked up!!

callmeadoctor · 09/02/2018 22:55

The question should be, if you believe in equality what would be a better label than the title "feminism" which is now outdated?

Yes

LadyLannister · 09/02/2018 22:58

No,

It's not that I don't think there should be equality between males and females because I do. However, it's the attitude of some feminists (not all) that puts me off identifying as one, I'd say that there are some pretty radical feminists on mumsnet that have some abhorrent views of men which I don't agree with, rightly or wrongly, it colours my view of feminism.

frozenlake · 09/02/2018 22:58

Yes
More so every year but aged 20 I think I was so liberal and cool I would have said no.

DreamyMcDreamy · 09/02/2018 23:01

@RoseWhiteTips
HAHHAAAAA you're funny.
Don't like labels

Nothing wrong with not liking labels, I can see where rosewhitetips is coming from on this one.
There does seem to be an obsession with labelling everything lately.
From if you're a feminist or not. If you are, are you a radfem, a libfem, a TERF?
It's even down to what you eat. You're a vegan, or an omni or whatever.
Just be you without all the labelling shit!
In my opinion of course women all want to be seen as equal and not second class citizens.
They just don't hold with hating men, which comes across with the extremely double standards posts you get on here, they sure as shit don't want to be told what or how to think by males or females as they're their own person, and anyone labelling on my behalf such as I'm a cis woman can fk off as well.
Rant over..... Smile

PeppaTheFirst · 09/02/2018 23:02

Absolutely yes - and passing these values on to my daughter.

upsideup · 09/02/2018 23:03

Kitsharrington

I want equality , I dont need to try and dress up or amend the destruction I think 'feminists' have done to the feminism, I definately dont have time for that, I can reject that label if I want to avoid association with feminists like you (yes you) because as I said earlier I dont want a woman to dictate to me what I can and cant believe any more than a man because I want equality.
If that makes me 'beyond help' and 'stupid' then thats absolutely fine , I'm not going to be pressured into accepting a label I find corrupt and meaningless to avoid appearing stupid.

peggy2467 · 09/02/2018 23:03

@LadyLannister
So why don't you call yourself a feminist and act differently to those you disagree with.
This way more people who agree with you will follow your lead and call themselves feminists whilst doing things differently.
Also, you said you believe in equality if the sexes, so technically-you're a feminist.
