No need to go further into your reasoning if you don't want to but this has always a been curious issue to me and came up today with one of my colleagues. She is a feminist by how she described her beliefs but doesn't actually adopt the term.

Wondering how an 'Are you a racist?' thread would go.

Have to imagine that the 'Noes' on this thread would be 'yeses' on that one.

Louiselouie0890 · 09/02/2018 21:52

Nope

grafittiartist · 09/02/2018 21:55

GrooovyLass · 09/02/2018 21:55

Hell yes.

MiddleClassProblem · 09/02/2018 21:55

MaxWeber I guarantee you some of those yeses would be fake

Kitsharrington · 09/02/2018 22:01

Except their reasons for rejecting the word feminist is very rarely because they dont believe men and women are equal, its actually quite often to do with not wanting to be associated with feminists like you.
I dont want a woman to dictate to me what I can and cant believe any more than a man, thats feminism

A feminist like me? One who doesn’t believe women are inferior to men? Yes, how awful to be a feminist like me.

I don’t care how you dress up your interpretation of feminism or what it has come to mean here or anywhere because a few hard core people have skewed its meaning in some quarters. Being a Feminist means you believe in equal rights for men and women. If you don’t believe in equality between the sexes, you are beyond help.

WTF has that got to do with identifying as a feminist? Hmm
I'm one of those saying I don't agree with some of the feminist ideals that gets spouted on here.
How that makes people automatically racist too is anyone's guess bit your own.
I'm on threads about racism saying no, it's definitely never OK.
You're the reason people refuse to identify as one.

bellasuewow · 09/02/2018 22:07

mommytoboo86 · 09/02/2018 22:08

going by the proper definition yes equality for all

going by how it's used these days then no.

upsideup · 09/02/2018 22:10

Kitsharrington

I know the dictionary defitinition of feminism and agree with it absoloutely. Unfortuantly that definition has been destroyed and rendered meaningless to me now. I believe in equality, I dont need to give myself some trendy label to prove that.

RoboticSealpup · 09/02/2018 22:15

The current hysteria over someone with a penis using a cubicle next to me is a laughable first world problem.

I know. Isn't it?!

Except of course that that's not what the 'hysteria' is about. I've been wanked at by strange men in enough weird places to know that.

So here - I fixed it for you -
.
The current hysteria (such a gendered word that one) over someone with a penis using a cubicle wanking off next to me my seven year old dd is really not a laughable first world problem.

You're welcome Smile

BonnieF · 09/02/2018 22:21

Yes, but I don’t hate men and I don’t seek to impose a rigid feminist ideology on other women who want to make different choices to mine.

Mammysin · 09/02/2018 22:21

RoseWhiteTips · 09/02/2018 22:22
