No need to go further into your reasoning if you don't want to but this has always a been curious issue to me and came up today with one of my colleagues. She is a feminist by how she described her beliefs but doesn't actually adopt the term.

OP posts:

Twofurrycats · 09/02/2018 21:07

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/02/2018 21:08

it normalises and perpetuates the objectification ofwomen

Does it? Evidence please.

Evidence that it doesn't? It seems fairly obvious that it would...

Helendee · 09/02/2018 21:09

Dowager, so you think that attempting to insult me because I care not a jot for your evaluation of me makes you educationally superior?
I would suggest you're nowhere near as smart as you think you are. Wink

WashingMatilda · 09/02/2018 21:09

YAAAAAAAAAAAAASSS

MephistophelesApprentice · 09/02/2018 21:11

By dictionary definition, yes.

But I don't think the definition reflects the movements true behaviour or intent.

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 09/02/2018 21:13

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 09/02/2018 21:20

Yes of course.

I’m also a lefty liberal who supports every individual expressing themselves how the hell they like, provided it doesn’t negatively affect anyone else.

And I’m TERF, apparently. Who knew?

upsideup · 09/02/2018 21:21

Except their reasons for rejecting the word feminist is very rarely because they dont believe men and women are equal, its actually quite often to do with not wanting to be associated with feminists like you.
If my opinions and ideas dont fit dont agree 100% with what you decide a feminist must think and that then makes me 'stupid', thats fine I won't call myself a feminist, the words lost most meaning now anyway and I dont need to give my self labels to feel superior. I dont want a woman to dictate to me what I can and cant believe any more than a man, thats feminsism.

alltalknobaby · 09/02/2018 21:22

Fuck yes

BrimFire · 09/02/2018 21:23

YES

Does it? Evidence please.

Well the fact you can only be a grid girl/ darts girls/ ring girl if you have tits on show, a figure acceptable as attractive to the male audience rather than reflective of the sport and be of a certain age. Which sort of indicates women are only there to be attractive object
