No need to go further into your reasoning if you don't want to but this has always a been curious issue to me and came up today with one of my colleagues. She is a feminist by how she described her beliefs but doesn't actually adopt the term.

But I counted all versions of yes as yes, even those with qualifiers.

Sn0tnose · 09/02/2018 20:37

Absolutely yes!

I really don't understand why anyone would not be. It's almost like they've seen an example of the most radical form of feminism and decided that all feminists are over-reacting man haters.

I want equality, I don't hold women to a higher standard than men which is how I feel feminism comes across.

The feminists I know have very high standards for men. And a great deal of belief that men can meet those standards. Not this infantilising 'well he's only a man, he can't possibly stack the dishwasher/look after his own kids/understand when he's sexually harassing someone' bullshit.

Mumsnet feminists tend to be trans exclusionary radical feminists or TERF which I find abhorrent. Not all feminism is the same.

Take darts walk-on girls, or page 3 girls for example, they want to do the job, but feminists are saying it should be banned. How is it anti-feminist if these women want to do it? it normalises and perpetuates the objectification of women.

duckingfisaster · 09/02/2018 20:45

Yes

Of course I am.

But totally agree with Strongmummy and of late would be reticent to describe myself as one because the term has been tarnished by the extremists whose views I wouldn't align myself with at all. But as far as the dictionary definition goes, it is a yes.
