As far as I know she worked with child rapist Polanski willingly. I don't think Woody Allen pulled a gun to her head to do her latest film.

And the same for Hayley Atwell, Colin Firth etc. Why speak up NOW? They all knew of the Allen allegations when they worked for him.

Something about Winslet has always irritated me. She seems fake and it wouldn't surprise me if she knew, along with the others. I think there is a lot of silence, when people should have been heard. And now all this #Metoo and wearing of white roses. The bandwagon must be buckling under the weight.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 29/01/2018 21:54

Doesn’t being fake go with the lovey territory?

megletthesecond · 29/01/2018 21:55

Yanbu.

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/01/2018 21:56

Yanbu. She seems a fake, fairly unpleasant woman.

Queenoftheblitz · 29/01/2018 21:58

It takes a lot of determination to get to the heights she's reached. And that will include turning a blind eye to a lot of shit we don't know about and a certain ruthlessness.
Hypocrite - yes.

windchimesabotage · 29/01/2018 22:05

I love Polanski films, hes a genius.... and it was so awful when i found out about the things he did. I find it hard to accept that someone who made all these amazing films that i love and relate to so much, could have done that. I can see why a young actress might try to ignore or play down anything she heard about him in order to be able to work with him.... It takes a while for it to sink in. I guess Kate has just gone through that process of realising the true horror of it.

I think also you would be under a lot of pressure as a young actress to ignore these types of things, so I think you are being a little but unreasonable. Kate is not responsible for the behaviour of these men and will have been in a scenario, like many other women in that industry, where they were in awe of these men and also under pressure to accept their behaviour as normal.

southeastdweller · 29/01/2018 22:09

She was in her mid-30's when she did the Polanski film and did the Allen film last year so she was hardly young (in Hollywood terms).

'Kate is not responsible for the behaviour of these men and will have been in a scenario, like many other women in that industry, where they were in awe of these men and also under pressure to accept their behaviour as normal.'

I agree. She may not have been a youngster when this happened but these men were still the ones who held all the power, not her. I'll save my fury for Donna Karan and all the rest of the 'what did they expect?' brigade

Lottapianos · 29/01/2018 22:13

Oh and of course, the men accused of these crimes

category12 · 29/01/2018 22:14

No more so than the vast majority of society. Over and over again cover-ups and minimising, churches, tv, Hollywood, politics, sport.

NapQueen · 29/01/2018 22:16

Its a shame that most of the talk surrounding the scandals is about the women who "did nothing/said nothing/turned a blind eye". Rather than the actual perverts who did all of this.

jay55 · 29/01/2018 22:16

I think she had got to the stage of having some power and being able to say no to roles. If all women had said no the films wouldn’t happen.
It’s when you take the someone will say yes, it might as well be me that those men retain their power.

Queenoftheblitz · 29/01/2018 22:16

She chose to work for a man who admitted to drugging and sodomising a 13 year old.
Winslet was in her 30s and a mother herself. She set the bar low in order to work with this genius.

MrsMaxwell · 29/01/2018 22:17

YANBU she’s fucking annoying anyway.

twattymctwatterson · 29/01/2018 22:20

I've no idea why everyone is suddenly up in arms about Woody Allen. Dylan's accusations have been a matter of public record for decades (I believe her btw) the judgement of their custody battle is available for anyone to read online. He had an affair with his partner's vulnerable teenage daughter for Christ sake.

ClashCityRocker · 29/01/2018 22:20

Yanbu.

'ill never let go Jack....'

KER-SPLASH

HoppyHannah · 29/01/2018 22:20

Who is this Kate person (big laugh).

Sorry folks but I dislike ANYTHING to do with so called slebs. So I wouldn't know much about any of them, apart from the fact that their faces, boobs, lips and eyes are probably just as fake as their outrage and themselves.

Self promoters. And I include the men in that too!

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 29/01/2018 22:20

I think it’s because she has spent the past few months fawning over Allen as her peers have been trying to break the silence of sexual harassment and abuse in the movie industry.

For her it was all about the possible Oscar nomination, but the film didn’t do too well and wasn’t critically acclaimed as she probably assumed it would be. She took the risk, it didn’t pay off and now she’s eager to be part of the movement.

PoorYorick · 29/01/2018 22:24

When will women stop being blamed for shitty male behaviour?

Viviennemary · 29/01/2018 22:26

Kate Winslet will do what's best for Kate Winslet. What is the point of her speaking out now. Too little too late.

AreYouOrHaveYouEverBeenATERF · 29/01/2018 22:28

I love Winslet - and no, she is not responsible for the crimes they committed.

Put the blame where it belongs.

Queenoftheblitz · 29/01/2018 22:29

Who's blaming women? Winslet's motives look suspect when you look at her past behaviour.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 29/01/2018 22:29

Women are not being blamed for shitty male behaviour here, they are being blamed for choosing to work with child rapists in order to further their own careers. That decision is on KW and every other person who chose to work with Roman Polanski.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 29/01/2018 22:32

I'm getting a bit fucked off with the likes of Meryl Streep and KW jumping on the solidarity bandwagon. The time when their voices would have made a difference is long past.
They have publicly supported these men and are no friends to the victims of sexual assault.

thegrinningfox · 29/01/2018 22:34

Not a fan of Winslet after seeing her dawning over Idris Elba on Norton, it looked a bit pathetic.

However Allen has always been on my gives me the creeps list. And never thought much of his film either, the most recent ones at least.
