I was shocked when a friend said this about manager

I know my friend has been having a hard time at work, but I was shocked when she said she was tempted to mow her boss down with her car when she saw him walking to his car after work. Obviously she didn't, but I was still shocked that she wanted to.

She probably had no intention or desire of doing so but just said in anger.

If you believe she meant it, report it to the police.

But she probably didn't, it's just a phrase.

No she did not mean it, she is the mildest mannered person you can imagine. But I believe she really really wanted to.

I ran over my exh foot once.
He was being very abusive to me and threatening me.

Asked him to move so I could park and collect the dc, he was ranting through the windows and I had already accelerated as he walked towards me.

After I had realised, he was still shouting and said I had ran over his foot - I am not ashamed to admit I told him if he didn't move I would reverse over it also!

Why not try sympathising with your friend instead of being shocked?

She wasn't venting actually, she meant it. She did really want to do it, but would not have. I am used to people venting, this was different.

It's just something she said in anger, she isn't actually planning a murder. Give her the chance to vent about her horrible manager and get all her anger off her chest. We've all worked for vile people at one time or another, I'm sure, and have all imagined taking grisly revenge on them. But very few people, if any, actually go through with it.

A friend of mine once said of a colleague "I want to tear his arms off and beat him around the head with them".

It was hilarious, but he also kind of meant it and had every reason to be angry at the time. Said colleague had basically fucked him over royally.

This is what mates do! Being friends is a licence to show others that you are hurt, angry, upset, and to have other people in your corner to say "I'm not bloody surprised, he's a total WANKER!" It's totally different from being an acquaintance, where you are minding your Ps and Qs and being a bit reserved. It doesn't mean your friend is actually a violent person. Being tempted to do something isn't the same thing as doing it. AT ALL. It means that she trusts you and looks to you for empathy, which sadly doesn't seem to be there in response.

I once plotted the detailed demise of a colleague involving an icy lake and a couple of litres of acid and if I'd really thought I could get away with it I'd definitely have done it.

She was so completely vile, hateful, delusional and toxic the world would truly be a better place without her. Another colleague and I only got through that time by discussing plans to murder her. In the end she got the sack and I haven't seen her since, but the thought of her being out there in the world continuing to be awful to people makes me feel sick.

Judge away. You don't know her boss. And if this is out of character for your friend maybe ask her if she wants to talk about it, instead of bitching about her behind her back

I'm 15 years out of an office where I was treated abominally. I occasionally see one of my bosses and still have a flare of totally uncontrollable anger. I get where she was coming from.

I am not botching about her and accept IABU. And yes she did want to do it. I have listened to her venting in the past, this was different. If she had poor impulse control I think she would have done it.
