To want to buy a dress with pockets

fizzicles · 16/01/2018 09:21

I am determined to buy clothes with pockets. It is too annoying not having them.

So, I need semi-smart dresses for work that are practical for working in reception with a bunch of messy 4/5 year olds, not too expensive (up to £50 would be OK I think) that have pockets. Can I find anything anywhere?? Not a sniff. AIBU? Can you help me?

Oliver Bonas used to sell dresses with pockets. They might be worth a look. Although they come up quite short.

I have a few Apricot tunic dresses with pockets. I wear them for work with smart leggings or thick tights depending on the length. The pockets are invaluable.

Cos do pockets. A good reason to love them. Clothes tend to be cotton and machine-washable, too. And - as if I haven't already said enough - a vast amount of their clothing can be hung up to dry, with ironing only necessary for perfectionists.

I have a few from next that have pockets. I hate dresses that don’t have them!!

thecatfromjapan · 16/01/2018 09:30

I should write their marketing:

"Cos. For women who do things. We know you don't have servants and reticules."

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 16/01/2018 09:31

I have this Hush one and I love it.

Really comfortable, easy to wear, pockets, dress up or down, £49.

NoCureForLove · 16/01/2018 09:31

Yup. Cos. Also Toast but ££££. Toast sale?

gunsandbanjos · 16/01/2018 09:32

Have you looked at seasalt?

Anythingforacatslife · 16/01/2018 09:33

Seasalt tunics have pockets

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 16/01/2018 09:34

Laura Ashley used to make some. Sainsburys occasionally.

God I love pockets in dresses. How do we start a campaign?

gunsandbanjos · 16/01/2018 09:34

Most of their dresses look to have pockets, some are a little above your price range though.

MrsFrisbyMouse · 16/01/2018 09:34

Gudrun Sojen usually have dresses/tunics with pockets - and sometimes, about that in sale. Good quality materials so they wash well and last, so worth the investment. And perhaps look for any lagen look type stuff. I have a lovely green tunic dress with pockets that's from White Stuff.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 16/01/2018 09:34

There's this Hush one too

That I have just put in my basket.

gunsandbanjos · 16/01/2018 09:35

My wedding dress had pockets, they were so handy!

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 16/01/2018 09:35

Seconding Gudrun Sojen. Nice thick, soft jersey.

CruCru · 16/01/2018 09:36

I like Seasalt and Cos. However, I haven’t bought much under £50 from there.

pastabest · 16/01/2018 09:36

I went on a few dressmaking courses for this very reason.

Most of my dresses now have pockets Grin

thecatfromjapan · 16/01/2018 09:37

This is about the fourth Mumsnet thread on the subject of pockets I've read in the last couple of years. I think the campaign has started. Grin

As I've said before, i won't buy a dress without pockets, and pockets are a feminist issue.

I have now had my consciousness raised to the point where I just think it's absolutely absurd to produce mass-market daywear for women without pockets.

Doobydoo · 16/01/2018 09:37

I have dresses with pockets. I get mine from Seasalt....their sale can be good.

newlabelwriter · 16/01/2018 09:38

I have 2 from Boden - bought in the sale. Same dress in two different colours. Also my sister won’t buy a dress without pockets - she always carries a lot of keys Grin - she has quite a few dresses/tunics from Sainsburys.

AaandPeggy · 16/01/2018 09:45

A lot of dresses from Yumi have pockets, I've got quite a few from there.

(My wedding dress had hidden pockets, it was ace, got a whole make-up bag in one of them!)

NotTheMrMenAgain · 16/01/2018 09:48

Debenhams has a range called 'Mantaray', I have four dresses all with lovely big pockets!
