To want to buy a dress with pockets

I am determined to buy clothes with pockets. It is too annoying not having them.

So, I need semi-smart dresses for work that are practical for working in reception with a bunch of messy 4/5 year olds, not too expensive (up to £50 would be OK I think) that have pockets. Can I find anything anywhere?? Not a sniff. AIBU? Can you help me?

I never put anything, except perhaps a tissue, in pockets either.

There doesn't seem to be room and I wouldn't put a phone in trouser pockets because it's asking to fall out, get damaged when I sit or bend down or be stolen when out or about.

I’ll just leave this here!

LIndy Bop do skirts an dresses with pockets which i love especially as i also work with young children.

Buxbaum · 16/01/2018 12:51

It is honestly very easy to add pockets to dresses or skirts but it is a bit nervewracking at first as you have to open up part of the side seams. Worth practising on a charity shop dress first.

All of my work dresses have pockets - I am a teacher and am forever losing my board pen otherwise.

Eve · 16/01/2018 12:52

what is the quality of Lindy bop dresses like?

Allaboutthatcake · 16/01/2018 12:52

Almost every dress from Joanie has pockets

halfwitpicker · 16/01/2018 12:53

How can people not like pockets Confused

Where do you keep your stuff?

CruCru · 16/01/2018 12:55

This is a good thread. I like the look of the dresses from Joanie. Can I check though - is the model really tall or are the dresses quite short?

sonjadog · 16/01/2018 12:56

Joanie clothing. I wear their dresses all the time - cheap, warm for winter and with pockets.

sonjadog · 16/01/2018 12:57

I’m 5’4 and the dresses are much the same length on me as on the models. I find the waist in them a little higher than I would ideally like.

storynanny · 16/01/2018 12:59

Fizzicles, I solved the reception teacher pocket problem by making a sort of waist apron with about 6 assorted sized pockets to hold all the stuff and a tall thin pocket for pens. Ended up being asked to make them for all the reception staff. Nice bright fabric prevented them from looking old lady like.

Most of the vintage-style companies make dresses with pockets. Look at Collectif, Hell Bunny and Top Vintage and just search for pockets.

I must agree with a previous poster, though, and say that pockets often add bulk and make my hips look even wider- not a good look. I recently bought a dress with pockets and sewed them shut, otherwise they hung open and looked awful.

A bit like this

Do COS dresses look better IRL than in the images online? Because the ones on the website all look utterly hideous.

YANBU Op - I got a lovely dress in the H&M sale recently and was overjoyed that it had pockets! Grin

HaHaHmm · 16/01/2018 13:02

Jaeger's jersey tunic dresses usually have pockets. RRP is over £50 but often reduced in sale or online outlet.

fizzicles · 16/01/2018 13:08

@storynanny I was totally thinking about a tool belt!

I sort of know that it wouldn't be too hard to add pockets, but I've got 3 under 5s so realistically, I'm not going to have time to do that this decade.

storybanny I love that!!

steff13 · 16/01/2018 13:16

www.eshakti.com

Lots of their dresses have pockets, and you can customize them in all sorts of ways for free.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/01/2018 13:19

Ulla Popken has dresses with pockets - I have two of her jersey dresses - easy and comfortable to wear, and easily washable too, so they'd be perfect for working with Reception age children.

@steff13 - I am planning to treat myself to a dress from eshakti, when I have lost a bit more weight - their clothes look amazing.

TheFairyCaravan · 16/01/2018 13:22

Joy have a few dresses with pockets.

HanutaQueen · 16/01/2018 13:27

OMG eshakti. Never seen this before and their clothes are beautiful!

What's in my pockets? My phone, sometimes a leatherman, LX tape...

ifigoup · 16/01/2018 13:36

Next. Next, Next, Next. I hate their clothes generally but they are fab for this. I have three dresses which sound like exactly what you want: knee-length slightly tulip-shaped (but flattering) skirts, short scoop sleeves, scoop necks (lower at the back than the front), washable at 40, POCKETS! I paid between £15-£20 for each.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 16/01/2018 22:04

Has anyone ordered from eshakti?

sonjadog · 16/01/2018 22:07

I have. They are good quality, I think.
