Cut my hand in a supermarket

I was food shopping earlier this afternoon, I picked up a a box to see if I could find a bag of carrots that I liked and scraped the inside of my hand on a metal bit sticking underneath a shelf.

The security guard was nearby and the only members of staff that I could see were all on the tills. I showed him my hand, he very kindly found some tissue. I continued shopping as I was in a bit of shock then the security guard came to find me with a plaster.

At the end of my shop (my husband was pushing the trolley) I thought it should be put in an accident log. I found the shop manager didn’t seem bothered or even asked if I was ok? I said that it should be written done, he then asked if I wanted it in the accident book. My AIBU is that surely that was the first thing he should have done, not asked me if that was what I wanted?

i would have thought it just one of those things to be honest. Do they really need to fill in an accident book? you're not a child.

steff13 · 14/01/2018 22:17

It seems odd to me, but I'm in the US. Here they would have fallen all over themselves to help you.

Nicknacky · 14/01/2018 22:19

I don't think I would have particularly cared if such a minor injury went in the accident book, tbh

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:21

I’m not expecting them to fall over themselves to help me. The manager just wanted to open a checkout and couldn’t care less. With my work I have to log all imjuries.I would rather if it was logged so that hopefully it doesn’t happen again. I’ve cleaned it so it’s unlikely to get infected but I wanted it logged just in case.

It's very minor, I wouldn't expect it to go in the accident book myself.

BlondeB83 · 14/01/2018 22:23

The boxes are meant to be rotated by staff so it wasn’t foreseeable that you would stick your hand under there.

Nicknacky · 14/01/2018 22:23

Logged in case of what?

JustCallMeJanet · 14/01/2018 22:23

YABU if you didn't just take the carrots on display.

RainbowPastel · 14/01/2018 22:23

It's a very minor cut what does it need logging for?

FrostyThirties0 · 14/01/2018 22:23

The nation is obsessed with getting things ‘logged’.

londonrach · 14/01/2018 22:25

Ive done that myself in a supermarket. It didnt even cross my mind to do anything apart from get a plaster out of my bag and be cross with myself that i did it. The cardboard boxes also have staples that seem to catch me every so often. Hope it better soon x

chocolateorangeowls · 14/01/2018 22:25

Meh - I think it's a non issue to be honest. I wouldn't have even spoken to someone about it.

FlouncyDoves · 14/01/2018 22:26

If you cut your hand on a park bench would you run looking for the park staff to log it?

Come on. Grow up.

mercurymaze · 14/01/2018 22:26

i do also 'fish' in the boxes under the ones on display though Grin you take the risk Wink

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:26

The carrots didn’t look too great, and I was shamefully looking for the organic ones as they looked fresher. I’m not usually fussed over orgain produce, I just didn’t like the dry ones that were on top.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 14/01/2018 22:26

You shouldn't have been rooting through the boxes that hadn't been put into general stock yet. They're not obliged to keep out of bounds areas safe for customers.

condepetie · 14/01/2018 22:30

If you did it, other people will do it too. If people are hurting themselves because of their shopping habits (whether people agree or not, we all want the freshest-looking produce), it needs to be looked at. YANBU and I'd have mentioned it at customer services.

arethereanyleftatall · 14/01/2018 22:31

Sorry, it wouldn't have occurred to me either to ask for this thread be logged.
Looks sore though.

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:31

It’s one of those supermarkets where sometimes you need to root.

I just wanted to know what others thought that was all. Thanks everyone

This iPhone predictive is beyond ridiculous

MaidOfStars · 14/01/2018 22:32

Get a claim in.

That’s a joke, BTW. but I’m pretty sure you want someone to say it

Katinkka · 14/01/2018 22:32

Looks nasty to me. They shouldn’t have sharp things sticking out. Old people have very thin skin and it could be much worse. Yanbu.

MidnightExpress1 · 14/01/2018 22:34

It’s a cut

Mrsfloss · 14/01/2018 22:34

Are you after suing?

Floralnomad · 14/01/2018 22:35

I doubt I’d have even mentioned it to staff let alone want them to take notes about it . Frankly if I were the staff I’d think you were after a compensation claim if you asked me to put it in the accident book .
