Cut my hand in a supermarket

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:15

I was food shopping earlier this afternoon, I picked up a a box to see if I could find a bag of carrots that I liked and scraped the inside of my hand on a metal bit sticking underneath a shelf.

The security guard was nearby and the only members of staff that I could see were all on the tills. I showed him my hand, he very kindly found some tissue. I continued shopping as I was in a bit of shock then the security guard came to find me with a plaster.

At the end of my shop (my husband was pushing the trolley) I thought it should be put in an accident log. I found the shop manager didn’t seem bothered or even asked if I was ok? I said that it should be written done, he then asked if I wanted it in the accident book. My AIBU is that surely that was the first thing he should have done, not asked me if that was what I wanted?

I think if you'd said it was Aldi or Lidl you'd probably have got a more agreeable reaction tbh (I assume it's one of those)

gamerchick · 14/01/2018 22:36

It’s pretty minor, it’ll heal.

Next time root about more carefully Wink

Frillyhorseyknickers · 14/01/2018 22:37

It’s one of those supermarkets where sometimes you need to root.

If it’s the same one launching your shopping at you at the till, the genuinely don’t give a fuck, stop digging about in boxes and go to Waitrose like a naice lady 💅🏻

BertieBotts · 14/01/2018 22:38

It just looks like a scratch to me, rather than a cut.

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:40

No, otherwise that would be in AIBU. I logged for in a worst case scenario/freak accident like if it got infected and fingers crossed that shouldn’t happen.

I didn’t pick up a box that was full, it had a bag of normal carrots and one bag or organic ones in them so I picked it up to see if there more organic ones underneath.

My AIBU was that the manager wasn’t concerned. I said that it could happen to other customers as well as the staff.

You were in shock and needed it put in the accident book for a cut like that? People only log things in businesses accident books to take things further.

Those cases aren't meant to be moved by customers so take it as a lesson learnt.

Nicknacky · 14/01/2018 22:41

Well, yes it could happen if they pick up a box. But the manager wasn't concerned because of how minor it was!

Your original op mentions you being in a bit of shock. For what!? It's a scratch!

Thehogfather · 14/01/2018 22:41

You lost me at 'in a bit of shock' and feeling the need to mention your husband was pushing the trolley.

You cut your finger, the type of cut most people would only notice when they investigated the source of the blood. You didn't accidentally discover a chainsaw with no safety switch and severe a limb.

Riv · 14/01/2018 22:42

I did something very similar in Aldi last year. It was not as bad as the OP though. A passing assistant noticed, called the manager who called a first aider. I was treated, given a cuppa and biscuit,

No1WiseGuy · 14/01/2018 22:42

It a superficial scratch. You are being unreasonable. You might find a plaster or steristrips useful next time.

UrsulaPandress · 14/01/2018 22:42

It hasn't even drawn blood.

Exactly what sort of shock did you experience?

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:42

My husband likes shopping there, this may persuade him to shop elsewhere! When I’m doing the food shop it’s usually where I can pack my shopping at my own pace!

Nicknacky · 14/01/2018 22:44

Why would your husband stop shopping there because you scratched your hand?

yorkshireyummymummy · 14/01/2018 22:44

Is this really what we have come to?
Being ‘in shock’ over a scratch in a supermarket?..................
No wonder my insurance comapany wanted 25% more this year.

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:44

It was bleeding in the shop, hence why the security guard got me some tissue and then a plaster. This is a picture later on.

I’m not so much concerned about the cut but the lack of action. If it had happened to my child I would be more upset.

gamerchick · 14/01/2018 22:45

It’s a scratch man!! What are you on about? It’s barely taken the skin off Confused

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:45

I wasn’t in shock where I went pale or fainted, sorry didn’t mean to sound so dramatic.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 14/01/2018 22:46

It's still just a scratch!!

I think the very fact you are taking photos whilst removing the plasters shows you were chasing some form of compensation. Most people just take it off without needing to document such a moment!

AcrossthePond55 · 14/01/2018 22:48

My first thought is to ask if your tetanus shot is up to date.

A PP is correct, in the US a bleeding wound would have been a big moderate deal. They would either have given you some first aid (wash, Neosporin, bandaid/dressing) or the supplies to do it yourself, and they probably would have had you sign a waiver of liability.

No1WiseGuy · 14/01/2018 22:48

Do you grow up in a padded cell OP? Never suffered the odd scratch as a child then?

FrostyThirties0 · 14/01/2018 22:49

Loving all the timeline photos- ready for the claim!

ShatnersBassoon · 14/01/2018 22:49

Get it logged? I do love people ingenuously logging these mundane occurrences 'just in case'... 🤕 💰

You scraped your hand digging around in the displays. That's a risk you took. Dab a bit of Sudocrem on it.

Missingstreetlife · 14/01/2018 22:50

Complain to head office, a child could be hurt. Manager negligent.
Contact no win no fee lawyer, you may have a case, they may advise seeing gp or practise nurse.

RunningOutOfCharge · 14/01/2018 22:50

If it had happened to your child then it would be your fault for letting them 'root' through food in a supermarket!!

Jeez, take some responsibility!

You are sounding ridiculous now. Your husband 'might' stop shopping there, you were in shock.....honestly??

Tasteslikecandy · 14/01/2018 22:50

I can still work so not chasing for compo thank you. Just a little ooh ahh, hope you’re ok that was my AIBU.

Some of you are tough bunch.
