To ask if you like mayonnaise?

Areyoufree · 11/01/2018 17:12

I don't like mayonnaise. However, it is very difficult to find a pre-packaged sandwich that doesn't include it. Therefore, I must assume that I am the only person in the world who dislikes this particular condiment. Am I right?

Disclaimer: this may actually be a thinly disguised grumble at the fact that sandwich providers love to drown everything in mayonnaise.

I like mayonnaise and I’m quite a fussy eater.

JellyTots123 · 11/01/2018 17:14

Cannot stand the stuff and I agree it’s very hard to find a decent sandwich without it in. Take Prets Posh Cheddar and Pickle Baguette for example, a beautiful sandwich absolutely ruined by mayo Envy

Marmalady75 · 11/01/2018 17:14

YANBU!!! That stuff is disgusting.

JellyTots123 · 11/01/2018 17:14

That was meant to be a sicky face!

Rebeccaslicker · 11/01/2018 17:15

Hell(man's!) yes!!!

My OH is the same, and also hates butter. He will only have sandwiches where they are made from scratch so he can specify no butter or mayo. They look dry as anything 🤢

Pret and EAT do some mayo free sandwiches (esp the hot wraps) but it's not easy to find...

isseywithcats · 11/01/2018 17:15

i like mayo what i do if i want a sandwich garuanteed not to contain mayo is go into a cafe order a tailor made sandwich as in say i order cheese lettuce pickle on brown to take out

IrkThePurist · 11/01/2018 17:15

I do like mayo, I think they use it to make all the sandwich stick together and stop it being dry.
You're going to have to make your own sandwiches. What will you use in place of the mayo? Please don't say butter.

RowenasDiadem · 11/01/2018 17:15

I hate mayo. And other gunks that sandwich makers assume everyone must love.
As a result I have to stick to Ginsters pasties (cheese and onion is amaaaaazing straight out of the packet cold!)

And coleslaw. Why do I need it slapped on the side of every cafe meal? Even when I say "No coleslaw please". Ew.

frasier · 11/01/2018 17:15

Love it but I know what you mean, some sandwiches are all (greasy) mayo and 6 prawns. Probably a cost saving thing, taste at the expense of better ingredients.

Don't M&S do a plain range? Forget what it is called...

FaithEverPresent · 11/01/2018 17:16

I like mayo. I have similar issues in that I like beef but not horseradish, cheese but not pickle, turkey but not stuffing, ham but not mustard...all sandwiches ruined by condiments!

BulletFox · 11/01/2018 17:16

Love it

anotherprosecco · 11/01/2018 17:17

Same here, DH and I cannot abide mayonnaise and it takes ages to inspect all the sandwiches. It's disgusting.

RowenasDiadem · 11/01/2018 17:17

DH and our 3 DC also dislike mayonnaise so that's a whole family who can't buy pre-made sandwiches. It's bad enough putting up with nasty cheap margarine spreads instead of real butter.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/01/2018 17:18

I don't like the texture or taste of it. I don't even have butter on sandwiches, so mayo is completely beyond the pale for me.

bellagood · 11/01/2018 17:18

No. Too oily/greasy. I do like salad cream though. Doesn't feel so 'fatty' to me.

Middleoftheroad · 11/01/2018 17:19

It's the stuff of the Devil.

On most shop sandwiches yuk

Middleoftheroad · 11/01/2018 17:20

One thing worse....
salad cream

DerelictWreck · 11/01/2018 17:20

I loooooove mayo Grin

But all the big supermarket to go sandwhich ranges have no-mayo options though?

CruCru · 11/01/2018 17:20

I only like mayonnaise with chips. Agree about including it in sandwiches - ugh.

potterycat · 11/01/2018 17:21

Mayonnaise is the devil's snot.

fluffycat5601 · 11/01/2018 17:21

Sainsbury's have a plain cheese sandwich no mayo

deptfordgirl · 11/01/2018 17:21

I'm not a fussy eater at all but hate mayonnaise. It's one of the few things i wont eat although I would eat it in a sandwich if I had to.

Praisebe · 11/01/2018 17:22

God no its worse than lard for your health. Vile stuff.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 11/01/2018 17:22

It’s a no from me! And even if you do manage to find a sandwich without it’s usually ‘just cheese’ or ‘just ham’. Yawn!

PinkHeart5914 · 11/01/2018 17:22

No I don’t like it, horrid stuff 😷
