To think the no pubes thing is a trend....

My previous career had me seeing people's genitals on a daily basis. Most had full pubic hair. Now I can see (mostly on naked attraction) that fully shaved is the fashion.
But was slightly surprised when a 50 something friend of mine said he prefers shaven as I assumed he would be less 'trendy' like me with my 80s stylefanny
Is it just a personal preference?? In my day at work it was defo rare to see fully shaved. Out of 20 people you'd be lucky if 2 were bald!

Barmymammy Like with all sex, caution needs to be had. I don’t think anyone is suggesting otherwise.

JacquesHammer · 10/01/2018 18:45

Fully shaved down there is just gross

Probably best not to do it.

Incidentally if I said "full hair down there is just gross" I would be rightly jumped upon. Language matters. Why the overly (deliberately?) emotive language?

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/01/2018 18:52

Serious question, those who don't shave/wax or whatever down there. When you're on your period does your bush not go all...bloody Confused mine does and I hate it, feels awful. Its exactly why I started shaving. I use tampons and pads but there's about two days in my cycle tampons are uncomfortable so I don't use them. With no hair there I can just clean the area with a wipe each time I go to the loo, with hair there its not so easy. This is just a genuine question BTW, no other time than this I could ask this I guess Grin

But yeah, those who think people who are bald down there do it coz of porn stars....nope. I'm not really regularly with the upkeep though, about three times a month I guess. Just to add, dh couldn't care less what it looks like down there

I didn't say anyone was suggesting otherwise! I think though, that it's worth highlighting the dangers. The anus isn't actually designed for penetration and can get damaged, was my point.

I've had two anal fissues and I wouldn't let a dick up my anus if you paid me a million quid.

shhhfastasleep · 10/01/2018 18:52

Yes. And I have regular showers.

Barmymammy · 10/01/2018 18:58

There is no medical downside to leaving your pubic hair to grow. The pros include the fact that you have little to no risk of ingrown hairs or skin irritation commonly associated with waxing, shaving, and other hair removal methods, that pubic hair prevents dirt and other floating germs from entering the vagina, it keeps our genitals warm, and it’s the perfect cushion during sex, bicycling, and other forms of exercise that put pressure on your vagina.

shhhfastasleep · 10/01/2018 19:05

It is a dodgy road to go down if you think periods are dirty.

JacquesHammer · 10/01/2018 19:09

I don't think periods are dirty.

What I KNOW is that my massively heavy, clotty periods are impractical to deal with. Having no hair FOR ME has made that easier. And quite frankly the first two days of my period are so bloody awful (pun intended) that I am willing to take whatever to make life that little bit more bearable.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 10/01/2018 19:12

Barmymammy I’ve been regularly having anal sex for years and have never had any problems, but DH and I are always very careful.

And there aren’t any pros of having pubic hair for me. Don’t need it to keep warm, never get ingrown hairs or irritation, don’t do bicycling or other similar exercise and sex certainly is a lot better without it.

silkpyjamasallday · 10/01/2018 19:17

I don't think you can argue that the prevalence of porn has had no influence on the rise in people wanting it all off. I do worry about the negative influence of porn on the expectations placed on women's bodies, and I wish I hadn't had those pressures whilst growing up. People can chose to do what they like with their bodies, but our choices are not made in a vacuum and I resent porn culture having an effect on my choices as an adolescent.

Barmymammy · 10/01/2018 19:18

Another pro for keeping your pubic hair is it's one less thing to do. I really couldn't be arsed with removing it.

I've tried it and the itching and discomfort drove me up the wall.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 10/01/2018 19:27

Barmymammy Again, not a pro for me. I keep on top of it so it takes two minutes max. Requires no effort whatsoever, and no itching or discomfort either.

Barmymammy · 10/01/2018 19:34

How to shave your pubes.

Step 1
Trim the hair you intend to shave with scissors or clippers. This will prevent the razor from clogging.

Step 2
Take a warm shower. Warm water will soften your skin and the hairs. It will also open the hair follicles and pores. Wait until the end of your shower to shave.

Step 3
Massage the areas you are going to shave with a soft-bristled body brush. Prepping the area with a body brush helps loosen ingrown hairs.

Step 4
Apply a thick shaving cream. Use a fragrance-free cream or lotion since added perfumes can cause irritation. Leave the lotion on for several minutes prior to shaving. Allowing shaving gel to sit for a few moments will further soften the hair.

Step 5
Use a men's razor or a woman's razor specially designed for the pubic area. Men's razors are intended to be used for shaving thick hairs and sensitive skin. You still need to exercise extreme caution, however, as some men's razors have three to five blades, and the skin you'll be shaving is much more sensitive than a man's face.

Step 6
Stretch your skin out flat as you shave. This will reduce cuts and help you get a closer shave.

Step 7
Pat your skin dry after getting out of the shower. Do not rub your pubic skin dry with a towel. Apply aloe vera gel to the area.

Step 8
Apply 1 percent over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to the area two or three times a day. Hydrocortisone helps ease itching and irritation. According to the National Institutes of Health, it also provides temporary relief for redness, inflammation and swelling caused by detergents and soaps.

No trouble at all then Grin

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 10/01/2018 19:37

Wow, pretty sure I didn't say periods are dirty, I said that I MYSELF hate how it feels having blood on pubic hair. I also shower regularly....pretty sure most people do. I don't however want to or have the time to shower every time I change my pad. Would be very time consuming and wasteful.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 10/01/2018 19:37

Christ alive if you have time for all that get a job and make some actual money for your labours!

HRTpatch · 10/01/2018 19:39

I've never had itching with regrowth.

TurquoiseDress · 10/01/2018 19:39

If it's a trend then it's been a 15 year trend Smile

Bimbler · 10/01/2018 19:40

Like Ugg boots and skinny jeans. But every trend passes. Who knew eyebrows would become a national obsession?

Mine goes:-

Apply cream, wait 10 mins usually whilst sending last mails of day and running bath.

Remove cream.

Get in bath:

Exfoliate.

Moisturise.

So pretty much whilst the cream is working I am being paid Grin

NormaNameChange · 10/01/2018 19:42

Well, I have to at least trim it or you wouldn't be able to see my VCH! My personal preference is for trimmed and neat but I like to take it all off every now and then. I don't think it is a trend perpetuated by porn - we wouldnt dream of discussing pubes 20 years ago, I just think we have become more open to sharing this kind of information. Thats all. As an aside, anal is very enjoyable.

shhhfastasleep · 10/01/2018 19:43

A 15 year trend - obviously those of us that were adults 16 years ago were dirty, smelly and Neanderthal. Thank god, you have saved us.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 10/01/2018 19:50

Barmymammy Well you can forget step one entirely because like I said, I do it every two days so there really is nothing to trim thankfully.

I don’t know where you got that from, but I’d hazard a guess that most people don’t do it like that.

It takes me two minutes; it’s literally, put shaving cream on, shave, wash off. No itchiness, no ingrown hairs and a lovely area I’m happy with.

g1itterati · 10/01/2018 19:51

I think the first time you shave is super-itchy, but it's fine after that and I'm dark / black hair. I was having mine waxed, but then ended up having it lasered because I was having my legs done anyway, so just said "carry on!" So that's it.

Personally, I don't like the "trend" for men to wax or shave their chests. It looks ridiculous to have a neat beard and then nothing below the neck, especially if you're dark haired.

Barmymammy · 10/01/2018 19:56

Shaved pubic hair is something all Muslims have to do.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 10/01/2018 20:09

Oh I love it. I absolutely hate body hair on both men and women, and seeing hairy chests physically repulses me. But then I hate facial hair too, so there isn’t a beard/clean chest situation for me Grin

The only hair I can cope with on men is underarm and leg, maybe a tiny bit of pubic; anything else and it’s just not pleasant.

Thankfully DH isn’t hairy at all, so he hasn’t had to go through shaving his chest yet Grin
