Storm Grayson

Posting for traffic! Grin

Anyone in the firing line?

We're set to get absolutely clobbered.

Every business and school called to shut yesterday afternoon which is unusual for here, we're used to weather.

Last big storm we had in October we were without power for 7 days. But now we have his polar front coming on the back of it where it's going to be about -30. Sad

The next week is going to be a bloody struggle that's for sure.

You had me really worried there until I googled it and found you must be in the US.(I am in the UK).
Hope you get through it okay.

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 08:14

Oops sorry! I can't see the UK calling a storm Grayson. More like Dave or Sally.

I have friends in NC. I'll be watching their Facebook posts with interest. I hope you guys get through it ok. Sounds frightening.

yrhengi · 04/01/2018 08:19

You'll have to shut that door (if it gets windy).

Sorry.

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 08:26

Later I'll be running around filling water jugs and cleaning. At least when you got no lights on you can't see the filth in the house so well!

We've boarded up the cat door so the silly bastards can't get out and disappear and pretty much shrink wrapped the chicken coop.

All of our local petrol stations have run out of petrol which is extremely annoying and alarming. We figure we've got enough for four days (to run the generator.)

There's only 1 other family on our road so we really are the last people the power company give a fuck about. Last storm they told us we were 'lowest priority.' Angry

I thought this thread was going to be about a film star or a character in a Mills and Boon book.

SquatBetty · 04/01/2018 08:43

Yrhengi
I was going to post the same! Grin

ElizabethG81 · 04/01/2018 08:54

I thought it was a baby name thread 😁

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 08:58

My friend has just had a baby and named him Grayson so she's not best pleased! Grin

You'll have to shut that door (if it gets windy).

Ha ha I say that loads!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/01/2018 09:05

Ha! smiled, that was exactly who I thought this thread was about!

SeaToSki · 04/01/2018 09:47

Waiting for the snow to start here. The wind is picking up already. We are going to be watching for coastal flooding too.

steff13 · 04/01/2018 09:48

Ooh, I thought this was going to be a baby name thread. Storm Grayson is a super cool name. ☺️

Soubriquet · 04/01/2018 09:50

No im in the U.K...

Discovered that the high winds we had yesterday that nearly blew me off my feet was storm Eleanor though...

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 09:51

@SeaToSki where are you?

We're set to get 15-20 inches of snow in a short period and an ice storm chucked in too. Just to make absolutely sure it downs as many power lines as possible. Angry

OP posts:
imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 09:52

There are a fair few US posters on Mumsnet. It's not a British club...

OP posts:
SeaToSki · 04/01/2018 12:24

Im in Massachussets. Where are you? it sounds like you are getting the worst. Our forecasts are up there but not above 12 inches yet. It has started snowing now, horizontally, as the wind is blowing hard

Rebeccaslicker · 04/01/2018 12:28

My friend lives in Chicago and has a baby Grayson (actually he's about 6 by now!).

Fingers crossed for minimal damage and everyone staying safe.

MrSlant · 04/01/2018 12:36

Keep posting OP, I hope you all stay safe and warm, it's so interesting to have people experiencing things that don't happen in the UK. 15-20 inches of snow is inconceivable to me! But then when you live somewhere that calls storms "Brian" I guess that's the way. My friend in California was in hysterics when I told her that one.

SeaToSki · 04/01/2018 13:50

It took me a while to adjust to the winters here. The UK is much more moderate in terms of cold and snow/ice. But it is fun when you can ski every weekend and ice skate after school.

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 14:35

I'm in coastal Maine. It's started snowing already, fuck! Wasn't meant to start until lunch time. Panic stations! Dh is outside frantically bringing in wood.

Brian was the best name for a storm ever. Grin

OP posts:
imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 14:36

Snow is usually fun but it's been too cold for ds to be out for more than 10 minutes for the last couple of weeks. Even then I've covered his face in nipple cream (lanolin). Grin

HelenaDove · 04/01/2018 14:45

Hope everyone in the US gets through it ok Thanks

imyourgirl UK Power Networks showed a similar shitty attitude in the winter of 2013.
