Storm Grayson

Posting for traffic! Grin

Anyone in the firing line?

We're set to get absolutely clobbered.

Every business and school called to shut yesterday afternoon which is unusual for here, we're used to weather.

Last big storm we had in October we were without power for 7 days. But now we have his polar front coming on the back of it where it's going to be about -30. Sad

The next week is going to be a bloody struggle that's for sure.

I hadn't thought of the snow thing!

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 19:41

What a good idea!

LakieLady · 04/01/2018 19:52

The worst is not having water to flush the loos

And it's not as though you dare risk popping down the garden for an alfresco piss either, is it? That's what I did when we had no water for the best part of a day (discreet little spot behind the shed, very secluded).

Hope it doesn't go on too long, it sounds very scarey.

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 19:53

I was on the verge of telling dh to do his monster shits outside when we were out for a week.

It would be so much better if they'd called it Storm Gary. Gary sounds like the sort of person who would leave a trail of devastation in their wake. Grayson more a trail of slightly damp tissues, library tickets and mislaid reading glasses.

SeaToSki · 04/01/2018 20:00

I cant take many photos as my windows are all covered with snow - the wind blew it horizontally and it has now stuck all over them. I opened the front door (and a pile of snow fell in) but thought my Christmas wreath looked pretty and frosty

@Eltonjohnssyrup 😂😂😂

My cat was called Gary.

Grayson is a stupid name for a storm.

OP posts:
imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 20:03

I can't post anymore pictures today. Sad

I can't see out of the windows as most of them still had screens on. Grin

PompholyxOfUnknownOrigin · 04/01/2018 20:09

Good luck OP. I hope it gets better soon; it sounds ferocious. Before Storm Eleanor, here in the UK, we had Storm Dylan last week.
I couldn't help asking if the answer, my friend, was blowing in the wind.

DamsonGin · 04/01/2018 20:45

It actually sounds quite practical doing monster shits outside, just leave them an hour and when they're frozen bag them up, or possibly triple bag, and bin. Just so long as he doesn't forget about any of them.

MrSlant · 04/01/2018 21:50

Grin Pompholyx.

That is a very seasonal looking wreath SeaToSki.

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 21:54

Route 1 runs down the East coast from Canada to Florida.

I'm so bored. My house is immaculate though as I panic tidied.

We're running out of booze. I can't believe I let this happen. All I have left is a 40 year old port I was saving....

OP posts:
MrSlant · 04/01/2018 21:59

imyourgirl this is a disaster what were you thinking, panic booze buy over panic tidy every time. #thoughtsandprayers

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 22:09

I found an old bottle of elderberry wine. Bleurgh, it's fucking dreadful.

OP posts:
MrSlant · 04/01/2018 22:16

Will make the port taste like nectar in comparison?

imyourgirl · 04/01/2018 22:20

If the port is off I'll walk out in to the storm. And not come back.

OP posts:
MrSlant · 04/01/2018 22:22

I would totally understand your decision. Where are the emergency services when you truly need them?

PompholyxOfUnknownOrigin · 04/01/2018 23:46

Any port in a storm.

Skowvegas · 05/01/2018 01:11

Hope you're all OK. I'm also in Maine although far enough from the coast that we're not at risk of flooding. It looks awful on the coast. We also still have power... for now. The wind is howling and we have 9" of snow on the deck at the moment.

The big question is will there be school tomorrow. I'm slightly hoping there won't so that I can get my kids to shovel the drive/deck/front path. I'm not looking forward to doing that in minus ridiculous temps.

Skowvegas · 05/01/2018 01:14

Also just realising that we are relatively lucky in that our toilets flush whether or not we have power. Small mercies...

imyourgirl · 05/01/2018 01:16

Were on an hour's delay for school apparently. Hmm

I can hear a sound on the windows now that is suspiciously like ice. Sad And the wind has picked up. I've a feeling our new chimney blew off.

Tangfastics · 05/01/2018 01:32

I'm in NY, the weather today was brutal!

MarieVanGoethem · 05/01/2018 04:37

Am hoping that my Superawesome Guide Leader (she lived in London for a year when I was 13 & my best friend & I like to blame her fairly regularly for the fact that I now run a Brownie Unit & she runs a Guide one... drat her & her inspirational Leadership!) is ok up in Nova Scotia... as you'd expect from a Guider, she is always super-prepared for storms (& everything else rural Nova Scotian life brings, from what I can make out) but still...

I hope all of you caught up in this are ok. And that the snow!flush works for anyone who might need it.

Also, Storm Grayson = clearly a fictional character. Maybe if you lose power you can write a plot outline for book/film about them & background info on character then all compare the various Storm Graysons people have created. (Would Grayson Storm also be allowed?) Sorry, it's twenty to five in the morning here & I've not yet slept due to pain. Including some from multiple joint dislocations I have to keep scrunching back & some from my misbehaving spine. Mowch.

Tangfastics · 05/01/2018 05:02

It’s not like the uk, it is amazingly efficient here! The roads are all plowed but the problem now is the temperature, so the plowed roads are freezing over.

Unfortunately I need to go food shopping tomorrow. I didn’t plan this well at all.

Tangfastics · 05/01/2018 05:06

And the bloody wind! It’s frankly horrible.
