To ask for your help.

Sorry posting for traffic

Stayed in a hotel room
After a night out paid in cash they asked for a 50 pound deposit by card gave this. They have charged me 370 pound today WTF!

What can I do.

Redglitter · 02/01/2018 18:39

What did they say when you contacted them to ask what the charge was

hungryhippo90 · 02/01/2018 18:40

Call your bank they’ve taken an amount not agreed upon

chickenowner · 02/01/2018 18:40

Phone them and ask why!

Notreallyarsed · 02/01/2018 18:41

Email them your receipt for the cash payment and ask for a full, immediate refund.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 02/01/2018 18:41

What hotel was it that costs £370 a night?! Or maybe it was meant to be an extra £37?

What was said when you discussed the total amount for your stay?

Contact your bank.

frasier · 02/01/2018 18:51

How much should the room have cost? Have they taken the price of the room twice, by cash and card? Or, is this a random amount that they have charged to your card?

If the latter, they may have charged someone else's bill to your card. Ring them, ask what happened.

BitOutOfPractice · 02/01/2018 18:54

Do you have a receipt? How much should the room have been?

ManchesterGinglebells · 02/01/2018 18:55

Have you rung them to ask why? Was there any damage? Did you order room service or clear the mini bar?

SavvyFishFinger · 02/01/2018 18:57

I hate OPs like this.

A perfectly normal mundane life transaction is supposed to look like A. Instead it looks like B.

So what does one do?

a) try to work it out like most people.
b) flap and fluster and come on MN due to a genuine inability to deal with these situations.
c) make the whole thing up.

Which is it?

ClashCityRocker · 02/01/2018 18:59

I assume there was no damage to the room or anything?

You didn't hit the minibar?

Wineasaurous · 02/01/2018 19:00

Do you know what the rate was on the night?
Email them and ask to see any checks signed by you throughout your stay as you can only charge something to your account if you sign for it.

Littledrummergirl · 02/01/2018 19:00

Something similar happened to me. Contact the hotel to find out why they took the extra payment, be clear when you speak to them you are unaware and would like a refund.

If by credit card then let them know, you should be protected. If by debit card then contact your bank. Lloyds were brilliant when I queried a payment.

Whinesalot · 02/01/2018 19:01

How much was the room?

Ashamedandblamed · 02/01/2018 19:01

Haven't called them yet called
My bank and panicked and reported it to them

OP posts:
Somerford · 02/01/2018 19:01

You don't know what the issue is until you've spoken to the hotel. Nobody can help you until you know what the issue is. Speak to the hotel.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 02/01/2018 19:02

Errr ring the hotel maybe? Hmm

DotCottonDotCom · 02/01/2018 19:03

Phone them and ask why!

This. I mean, surely thats the first thought rather than "Lets ask on Mumsnet"?

Surely?

Wineasaurous · 02/01/2018 19:03

Tbf, all you have to do is ring them

Ashamed "excuse me mr hotelier, my card has been charged x when it should have been y. I stayed on this date and I was quoted this rate"
Hotel "I am terribly sorry about the inconvenience. It appears you have been charged twice/charged additional items to your room/made 2 bookings by mistake etc. We will review this issue and refund "
Ashamed "thank you"

Redglitter · 02/01/2018 19:04

Surely to goodness the first thing you should have done was phoned them and asked them?? That makes more sense than contacting your bank and posting here

Gazelda · 02/01/2018 19:06

Did you book direct? Why aren't you calling them to clear up the misunderstanding?

BitOutOfPractice · 02/01/2018 19:07

So you've asked the bank, and MN but not the hotel? Really?

Ashamedandblamed · 02/01/2018 19:08

Right just to clarify I tried to call hotel couldn't get through. Tried to cal bank and que time is 30 min so I'm posting whilst I'm on hold to see if anyone had anything similar !
