To ask for your help.

Sorry posting for traffic

Stayed in a hotel room
After a night out paid in cash they asked for a 50 pound deposit by card gave this. They have charged me 370 pound today WTF!

What can I do.

Is it a Radisson Blu?

They did that to us in Bristol. They told me, and I accepted their answer, they do that in case a customer runs up a large bill and tries to leave without paying. They do not take the money from your credit card and when we checked out received a bill with £370 credited as it were.

I'd go to reception and ask for an explanation - even if it's not Radisson Blu.

Wineasaurous · 02/01/2018 19:38

@Gentlygrowingoldermale it's called a preauth

@pisacake - are you 10? What a god awful thing for one adult to say to the other regardless of the OP content.

OrinocoDugong · 02/01/2018 19:40

Are you sure it's an actual charge to your card? Many hotels will put a "Hold" on your card to ensure that if you drink the whole minibar there are sufficient funds before you hit your credit limit to pay the ensuing bill. The money isn't actually taken but your account will behave as if it was until the hold charge is cleared some time in the next week or two.

ShellyBoobs · 02/01/2018 19:41

OP, I don’t think phoning your bank will be helpful at this stage.

They will ask you what the hotel have said about the charge before they consider doing anything else.

ClashCityRocker · 02/01/2018 19:42

Jesus well this thread has taken a turn.

Op, what was the room rate?

Any mention of a preauth in the ts and Cs?

Ginmakesitallok · 02/01/2018 19:42

Op - that was out of order.

InsomniacAnonymous · 02/01/2018 19:42

OP, what do you mean "We should be so lucky" in your last post?

flumpybear · 02/01/2018 19:42

Keep searching the internet for a phone number and call them - get banknto cancel transaction

MaidOfStars · 02/01/2018 19:43

Did you phone the actual hotel you stayed at or a central company helpline?

Ashamedandblamed · 02/01/2018 19:43

There wasn't a mini bar.

Sorry for the lack of details I have been on the phone trying to sort.

Thanks for all the helpful posts.

The thread is a mess i admit and does lack a lot of info.

Consider case closed as I cannot be arsed with anymore pathetic responses or to give any further posters 'cancer' Hmm

OP posts:
BMW6 · 02/01/2018 19:44

Did you inadvertently pack some furnishings from the room in your cases when you left?
You would be surprised how often my sister has found stuff gone from a room and when she has charged the cost of the replacement on the customers cc, they sometimes ring to say this........more often they say nowt and sis gets paid to buy another whatever.Smile

JaneEyre70 · 02/01/2018 19:44

We stayed at a Hilton in Prague and although we'd already paid for the room, they asked for a card for restaurant/bar use etc. When they swiped it, it was declined so we had to ring the bank. Turns out they'd put a transaction through for £750 sterling (there were 4 of us in 2 rooms) for 4 rooms, and they said they refund the difference when we left. I was horrified and thank god the bank declined it as we'd have had no money to spend for the week! It was someone new behind the desk and she was supposed to get an authorisation against the card but not an actual amount. They were very apologetic. Could it be similar?

Snowman41 · 02/01/2018 19:44

OP, answer the questions rather than being rude to people?

RadioGaGoo · 02/01/2018 19:44

No more out of order than Pisacake.

InsomniacAnonymous · 02/01/2018 19:44

OP, you have said you paid £50 deposit, but you haven't said how much you expected the total amount to be. You do know the room rate, don't you?

DotCottonDotCom · 02/01/2018 19:45

Christ on a bike,if you just told us what hotel it was we could have got you a direct line or something.

This is just an utter brain fart of a thread

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 02/01/2018 19:45

Try ringing the hotel line that gets you through to bookings rather than customer services because they will probably be quicker to answer the bookings line.

JaneEyre70 · 02/01/2018 19:45

4 days not 4 rooms!

cathycake · 02/01/2018 19:45

Wow - first op I apogise for the numpties on this thread that have insulted you for no reason at all apart from their own ignorance and boredom.

Your doing the right thing by ringing the bank to inform them especially as you can't get hold of the hotel. It's frustrating too as I can imagine that any refund will take approx 5 working days to appear in your account. Good luck and apologies for some of the pure nastiness directed at you for no reason what so ever.

kaytee87 · 02/01/2018 19:46

How much was the room meant to be in total? Some hotels 'hold' a certain amount on a credit card whilst you're there to cover bar cost, meals etc but they should be very clear about that.

Theresnonamesleft · 02/01/2018 19:46

You want people to help but you haven't given any information.
When help is required, additional info is needed otherwise no help can be given.

ClosdesMouches · 02/01/2018 19:47

Feisty little bugger, isn’t it?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 02/01/2018 19:47

Consider case closed as I cannot be arsed with anymore pathetic responses

You're pretty rude OP. I'd work on that, if I were you.
