I've escaped with pretty normal gifts so far (minus individually wrapped Lindt chocolates from my grandma) but my teetotal DP has just received 2 bottles of rum from my DF thanks dad

Have you/family had any weird ones?

Earl Grey tea from my DM. I love tea but not Earl Grey. She said she saw it on Facebook I like it. I've never posted about it on Facebook so I don't know where she got that from.

A book of poems about death.

A jar of pickled onions from one of the dogsGrin.

Not a weird gift in itself, in fact very nice, but MIL have DH and I 4 x £25 Next gift cards, so that we didn’t have to spend them all at once, like we would have to if she gave us a £100 one. Umm don’t think she understands how gift cards work Grin

A book by an author that I've never heard of but my mum swore blind that I'd asked for. We eventually got to the bottom of it and it turns out my dad had actually requested it. He is my dad's favourite author and she has bought him these books many times, so think she must have been having a moment Grin

DH bought me a packet of three dishcloths!

I was half expecting them. I had bought some Martha Stewart ones in the States about five years ago as they matched my kitchen. I had two packs of three. I'm almost about to hav to retire the first three and had to open the second pack. DH said I should buy more. I pointed out that they don't do them any more. He took the label and disappeared. Couldn't get the ones I have but tried!

(He did also get me some lovely presents!)

magpiemay · 25/12/2017 15:41

My dh bought me a kettle.
I mentioned we needed a new one, this translated in his brain as "ideal Xmas present for the wife".
Fortunately DD23 put him right, and instructed him on the necklace and the boots I liked, so I got those as well (after the kettle) - he thinks he's a comedian. Grin
