I've escaped with pretty normal gifts so far (minus individually wrapped Lindt chocolates from my grandma) but my teetotal DP has just received 2 bottles of rum from my DF thanks dad

Have you/family had any weird ones?

A jar of pickled onions from one of the dogs

Haha Maiden. I received a jar of pickled cabbage from the dog a few years ago... apparently I said I like pickled cabbage with fish at some point... 🤷🏼‍♀️

A men's one size Slytherin dressing gown. Purportedly from DD but bought on Amazon by DH. I'm female, size 8 and can barely move in it, to say nothing of the fact that 1) I have 2 fitting dressing gowns already and 2) I have no desire to dress up as a Harry Potter character.
Not as bad as the time I got a Tellytubbies DVD. We didn't have children.

It was from a relative.

I knew that no-one would be able to beat it. Do I save it for a special meal,

Any recipe suggestions for a kilo of brown basmati rice?

Shower gel for “mature skin” from my daughter’s boyfriend. He won’t have even noticed when he bought it.

My MIL gave my 4 year old DD a box of liqueur chocolates. The one shaped like little bottles with real booze in them.

DH gave me a doorbell.

DHs gran proudly presented him with a pack of 3 plain black socks and then said "you know why you've got that don't you?"
Turns out a few weeks ago DH went to meet his gran for coffee during a work break and when he crossed his legs and his trousers rode up a bit she saw he had "dad socks" on and apparently that just won't do for work socks HmmGrin

A gum ball machine. I'm nearly 40. I've never eaten a gum ball in my life ...

I got a kettle from DH once “because I like tea”.

Also a teapot from my mother “because it was time I got a teapot”.

I drink one cup, maybe two tops of Tetley’s tea a day.

Also DH once bought me a book of piano sheet music, which was very thoughtful as I do play. However, he had failed to notice it was a book of funeral music.

Nothing too weird this year thank goodness but PIL famous for bonkers presents. Particular favourite was a fetching (hideous) air freshener shaped like a Victorian lamp. Put it out once when they visited then placed it in the special black draw (bin bag!) Wink

My MIL buys pressies she would like for herself. However she is woman in her 70s - I'm not. This years gifts included

  • hankies embroidered with flowers
  • a church hat (she has about 5 the same herself)
  • a flowery shopping bag
  • a calendar of mountain views

But also a bottle of gin, so all is forgiven Grin

A litre of unpasteurised milk and a lecture about said milk and it's origins. Relative thinks they are simple country folk, despite living in a city until 3 years ago and just occasionally visiting a farm shop. Weird.

I feel less bad about ridiculous gifts as they now get sent to the school tombola in June. I'm not sure the milk will last that long though.

Pug stuff is ridiculous.

A thermal bag for packed lunches, I think. It has campervans on it. It’s from a horsey friend. She shares my horse. I have no interest in campervans.
