I've escaped with pretty normal gifts so far (minus individually wrapped Lindt chocolates from my grandma) but my teetotal DP has just received 2 bottles of rum from my DF thanks dad

Have you/family had any weird ones?

FIL bought me a lovely framed print (along with some other things) but he wrapped it up in a pizza box and I genuinely thought he'd bought me a frozen pizza for quite some time until he noticed I hadn't opened the box! He couldn't believe I'd thanked him so sincerely! 😂

My kids bought my ex/ friend/ babysitter a blanket that they specified should live at our house so "their blankets don't smell like him" (he gets cosy on an evening when he's watching them)

Christmaschoc DD is Harry Potter crazy so she may have come up with the idea but I thought he could have steered her in a more appropriate direction and got the right size! Looks like I'll be dressing as Professor Snape next Halloween.

A 6 inch wooden 'Parker' from Thunderbirds figure. It has elasticated joints so you can bend it into various positions. Totally random as I have no interest what-so-ever in Thunderbirds. However DS loves it and has adopted it Grin.

@Snowtato I see your Little Mermaid pyjamas and raise you, Aladdin pyjamas Grin (I'm in my 30s). From my best mate who bought me Snow White pyjamas last year and Happy Feet pyjamas the previous year.
I also received a massive tin of de-icer and some jump leads from DH, a Playmobil Santa Claus and a slice of cheese on toast (thankfully not wrapped) from the DC. Happy days all round.

I got a 12 days of Xmas cosmetics advent calendar from DB 😳

applesareredandgreen · 26/12/2017 00:05

Worse I don't see why that's weird? The 12 days ones aren't 'advent' calendars as such - advent is 24 days up to Christmas and the 12 days of Christmas starts on Christmas Day do you get a little gift every day until 12th night.

This would be weird if I hadn't requested it; a jar of mustard from my parents. I had asked for a specific type I'd tasted at theirs but couldn't find in any supermarkets or the posh mustard shop I went to visit. However, DM also couldn't find the mustard again and so gave me her own slightly used jar instead. It had been bought by mistake and I'm the only person who likes it anyway

My great nana in law (is that a thing) got my 4 month old some christmas socks, a hand knitted cardigan wide enough for a 3yo but short enough for a newborn, one pair of knickers age 18-24months and a congratulations card that says something weird like 'are we great grandparents now, what have you called her?' She came and visited us the day after she was born. She's batshit but lovely x

I really like those cats, they look like my little swines!!

Nothing weird to report here, I've had lovely things and been very very spoilt 😊

My brother gave me a book of Quotations from Chairman Mao. In chinese, with facing page in english. Apparently because I seem to be interested in politics, however my interest doesnt really extend past detesting Trump Hmm.The game of thrones mug which turns white-walker when you have tea in it was better recieved.

My nana bought every female in the family the pink cancer awareness bed socks which was a bit odd. Charitable but odd. I also got some Beauty and the Beast pyjamas (23 year old) but as I'm a huge Disney fan, that's not that weird

A soup cleanse book from DH ..... it's meant to help you jump start your weight loss. I'm a size 8, run/train daily - I can only hope it was meant to be a joke ...Hmm

My DD's present from my sister and her DCs was Hogwart's clothes, which she loved, but also in the parcel were two pairs of my niece's knickers.
Niece is a size 22 and DD is a size 10 Hmm They were clean knickers though, so I suppose we should be thankful!
My Nanna (God rest her) used to give us all beautifully wrapped surprises on Christmas Day - the most memorable ones were a box of Mansize tissues, a dishcloth, and a festive tea towel Grin That said, I miss the utter randomness of them now she's no longer with us.

I got a plastic ruler and a pastel baseball cap from my mum - souvenirs from a recent trip to a place I've never been. Also a knitted pen holder.

Classic type of gifts from my mother - ones that have absolutely no relation to the individuals tastes, interests or what they might actually want Hmm

This thread almost makes me sad that my most batshit relative in-law who usually gives us some totally random thing (we reckon she picks up various "bargain" items throughout the year and then in the week before Christmas does some kind of decision process to assign them out) just gave us some cash this year. Previous delights have included a whiteboard with drywipe marker pens, a pink frilly shawl suitable for an 80 year old and various items of charity-shop-destined china animals.

Orinoco - my MIL does that. Thankfully she comes to us by train now so doesn't like to carry too much so does her shopping for us here with me. She aks for suggestions for us all and so we all get something nice and she isn't wasting money. A highlight in previous years was a comb for DH - he is bald. A massive mirror for me - we lived overseas so no way I could carry it back.

I’m missing this.......my uncle used to give my children the most inappropriate pressies ever. The winner was a set of Stanley knives and cutting board for each of them; 9, 7 and 5 at the time. He was very much a believer in giving them independence at a young age!

My mum got a white t-shirt, on which she'd had printed in huge red letters 'SASSY SINCE Birth

I'm 43 ........ Never in any of those 43 years has anyone ever described me as sassy...... I was rendered speechless for a moment.....
