To ask the difference between Mumsnet and Netmums

Mumsnet seems more brutal (not that that's always a bad thing)

I haven't posted on Netmums yet.

Is there much difference in your opinion?

This question gets asked a lot, the standard response seems to be "30k a year and a MSc", or a variation of this.

Netmums is softer, a bit kinder (but it always in a good way).

NM is better for the local boards. MN is better for acerbic wit.

I think NetHuns is inhabited by those who think a sparkly dummy is the height of sophistication.

Also I think you have to be at least a little intelligent to hold your own on MN.

I think MN has a middle class image but in reality the demographic is far more mixed than Netmums. There are a lot of posters on here claiming benefits, struggling for money, and at the other end of the scale posters who —say they—are very wealthy.

NM seems more average income working class to me, less diverse. Most mums I know locally are far more like the NM posters.

Mumsnet is my preference as I like reading the politics and feminism threads, I find them informative and I don’t see that on NM. What I don’t like on here is the snobbery, so what if they have tickers and sparkly dummies - doesn’t make them inferior.

We can swear on MN.

NM is strictly no naughty words and lots of tickers with 'lil bubz is 5 months!' etc.

To add, I don't have any issue with other people liking tickers, they just are not for me! Doesn't mean I'm right!

I tried NM once when I was TTCing but it was too pink and purple. And the tickers. Oh they were annoying.
Also, as a childfree woman I generally feel welcome here (although I have to justify it every so often). There is so much on here that has nothing to do with having children although the women here clearly love their children very dearly their children are not the centre of their very existence, they have other interests.
However I get the feeling with NM that if you are not completely centred on your children then you have nothing.

What are tickers?

Netmums seems as if it suits the highly groomed and false nailed to me. Mumsnet has more substance but with that comes brutal honesty that you don’t find on Netmums. Every days a school day on mumsnet. If I were on Netmums, I think I’d have pulled all my hair out by now reading some of the posts I imagine the one brain cell working incredibly hard.

Not a question of better or worse, my own personal preference is MN, bit like a pub, you might go in 2 pubs in the same town and find that you just like the feel and ambience of one over the other.

Thinking about NM though reminded me of the horrific time at work when I spoke to someone from NM (work in child related industry and they were looking for us to advertise with them) and my mouth said Net huns to her before my brain caught up with me

I used to always post on Netmums-Tis true that they are a lot softer over there.
However I also do not think it is as popular as Mumsnet-hence why I came over here to the dark side!
Threads on there either get no reply or only one or two.
