To ask the difference between Mumsnet and Netmums

Emlou07 · 16/12/2017 08:36

Mumsnet seems more brutal (not that that's always a bad thing)

I haven't posted on Netmums yet.

Is there much difference in your opinion?

OP posts:
Bratsandtwats · 16/12/2017 10:32

@SootSprite

Thats how I think of it too.

GinIsIn · 16/12/2017 10:33

Well, I’m an MNer because if I have a concern about my son and ask, I want to be told truthful opinions and options, not just ‘ur bubba ur rulez hun’

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 16/12/2017 10:38

When I visited Netmums they were using Comic Sans, which as everyone knows is the devil's own font, so I suspect they might be closet Satanists.

LivLemler · 16/12/2017 10:57

I often look on the NM pregnancy boards. Was on there one day recently when all the brexit shit about the Irish border was going on. Thought I'd have a browse to see what the NM take was. I couldn't find any discussion whatsoever. Maybe I didn't search right, I don't use it much.

JustDanceAddict · 16/12/2017 13:09

‘‘Twas great for local boards when my two were younger. I actually met a really nice local mum through it and we’ve been good friends now for over 13 years (and our DHs are too).
I hate all the hun & babe stuff though.

PumpkinSquash · 16/12/2017 14:04

MN - can say norty things like fuck.
Netmums will bleep you out.

Netmums - "Ur babz, ur roolz hun,"
MN - "What are you on about you stupid fucker, you can't do that with a baby. Oh and by the way, you don''t spell your like that."

Tickers If mumsnet had one too

Netmums - "85 days since Naevah Tyler Chardonnay was born"
Mumsnet - Is it Gin O Clock Yet

Grin
Pickleypickles · 16/12/2017 14:14

What is a ticker?!

PumpkinSquash · 16/12/2017 14:22

What is a ticker?!

Sparkly banners at the bottom of each posters comment.

QuinionsRainbow · 16/12/2017 14:31

One has its Mums in front of a Net
The other has a Net in front of its Mums

WhataLovelyPear · 16/12/2017 14:34

I've been wondering about this. I used to be on BMC, then it died and I did nothing for a while. Meant to try out both but came here first and haven't made it to NetMums yet - probably never will now. The wit on here is awesome - DH loves to listen while I read AIBU threads in the evening 😁

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 16/12/2017 14:34

It took me years to work out they were different websites.

Willow2017 · 16/12/2017 14:41

NM has gone down hill in last years. It used to be fun with threads of random silliness good debates etc. Now its all about babies. Look on the most popular threads bit and its all pee sticks and mummies due dates. I used to love it but now spend 10 minutes catching up on specific threads and there is nothing else interesting. I miss it.
I think a lot of NM these days are very young. If you dont automatically agree with them they scream bullying or abuse (edited out abuse of course ) they wouldnt last 10 minutes on mn.
Plus the tickers!
Saw one this week saying "my baby is the size of a chicken nugget now" with actual photo of chicken nuggets! Ffs!

MN is way more intetesting and adult and yes there are some people who are nasty just because they can be but the content is much more adult and there are some hilarious threads too. And masive support when needed.
Learned loads about feminist issues on here which you daren't mention over there as they dont actually believe it happens apparently and you get name called for daring to highlight an issue. Very sad.

missyB1 · 16/12/2017 14:41

Netmums used to have a like button and a quote button, when I was on there - both very useful.

i found most threads were more applicable to mums with young children and therefore not so useful to older mums like me. Also when i got diagnosed with a serious illness i struggled to find people to talk to over there, having said that I've killed a few threads over here when I've mentioned it!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/12/2017 14:57

Mumsnet, swearie, confrontational, funny, solidly mc and Home Counties, well paid dp in big job
NetMums fluffy, hunz, bubbas, less mc, threads about avoiding the sw

AuntieStella · 16/12/2017 15:02

I think it's a bit shit to post opinions of NM on MN, and vice versa.

If you want to know about the differences between sites, why don't you just visit both? And then make yourself at home on one, other (or like many of us) both.

Sanshin · 16/12/2017 15:06

Netmums - pissy wet blankets
Mumsnet - vipers born from the fires of Satan.

No really, netmums is just very cutesy whereas mumsnet is more realistic and representative of real life. In my experience anyway.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/12/2017 15:07

Whats the problem in comparing 2 sites exactly?theyre markedly different
Which is what folk are saying, depends on your preference how you find the diffs
NetMums founder Siobhan freegard awarded an OBE for services to families
mumsnet have received no such awards

PumpkinSquash · 16/12/2017 15:41

I'm a long time member of both MN and NM. Anyone remember the Tantrums and Tiaras board on Netmums or is that just me?
Kind of like an AIBU board. It didn't last very long, as the mods decided it was too argumentative or something like that Grin
They'd faint over here lol

Lucyccfc · 16/12/2017 15:56

MN say cunt
NM say Hun

NM is working class with acrylics and fake tan
MN is working class pretending to be middle class and considers itself to be far superior to NM

StaplesCorner · 16/12/2017 15:58

NetMums founder Siobhan freegard awarded an OBE for services to families

Bloody 'ell, get yer finger out MNHQ and get a gong!!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/12/2017 16:00

Mn is solidly middle class, piano grades, well paid dp,and affluent sahm who won’t let anyone else raise their kidskin

NegansDollFace · 16/12/2017 16:11

NM - No swearing. A lot of huggy ‘hunz’. The site is a bitch to navigate. Ads for days. Posting takes a few decades to get a reply.

MN- Has a much more serious tone. It’s hard to describe, the feel is different but not bad. I’d trust MN advice over NM because like it or not the majority here are well educated. They say what you need to hear, not what you want.

EggysMom · 16/12/2017 16:17

I used to be on NetMums but got terribly fed up of the tickers. I like to be somewhere that babies, birthdays, development aren't paraded as badges. My only gripe with MumsNet is the inability to edit a post even immediately after.

abbsisspartacus · 16/12/2017 16:20

I'm not banned

IfNot · 16/12/2017 17:06

Middle class mnetters think MN is middle class because the posters on here are generally more well informed and have better grammar than netmummers.
They don't believe you can be working class and educated Grin
