Neighbor complaint - people using his drive to turn

Sorry I can't add diagram.

So we live on the cul de sack with a turning area. Each house has a driveway. No one parks in the turning area as we have large driveways and there is in shot parking as well.

Since we moved in earlier this year for some reason people use our drive to turn rather than going to the end of the road and use the turning area. This was particularly annoying in the dark evening with car lights.

We got a new fence with automatic driveway gates added last week. This now means people can't use our drive to turn. Our next door neighbor came over yesterday to complain that people are now using his drive instead of ours. We told him there isn't anything we can do. We suggested he put up a sign saying no turning.

He has now posted a note through the door (even though I'm working from home) saying he will be complaining about us at tonight's residents meeting.Xmas Hmm. He thinks we should have discussed our fence/gate plans with neighbors before installing them as they now have to deal with what was our problem. We didn't need permission for the fence or gates.

Aibu to think that people turning on his drive isn't our problem?

We had a house where everybody on the cul-de-sac turned around outside it (the driveway was at the side). The headlights were SO annoying, shining straight into our living room. At least on a driveway I assume you don't get drivers sitting there idling for five minutes like we did Confused

Looking forward to hear how the meeting goes...

You have residents meetings? What do you all talk about?

These people sound like the people my aunt lives near. She gets 'told off' for not cutting her grass often enough by her neighbour. Poor man would have a heartache at our garden, it's like a jungle.

I am going to predict he wants you to contribute/pay for a gate for him.

Just a hunch

I am going to predict he wants you to contribute/pay for a gate for him.

£5 (imaginary) says he wants all the residents to share the cost between them. Grin

I work for a managing agent and so hold these kinds of resident meetings for developments I manage and I can just imagine how his comments at the meeting will go. You have nothing to worry about as he is being totally unreasonable.

What's his solution?! Does he really think you should take down your gates/fence so randoms can turn in your drive instead of his? Wow...

I live in quite a narrow residential street and the neighbour opposite lives in the only house with a drive - which I use to turn the car around when no one is parked there (we have a complex one way system in the surrounding streets, but our street is two way traffic, so turning the car can save several minutes) .... but I don't do it at night. Apart from the problem of headlights I can't imagine why anyone would object to someone turning in their drive when they weren't using it.

It wouldn’t be at all helpful if you gave your neighbour a link to this thread....would it?😉

Is this how to placemark?
Also, I know how to comment on a post - don't know how to start one - anyone?

I wouldn't get too shirty at the meeting OP, you don't want to alienate yourself after having just moved in, despite being completely in the right and thus having the upper hand. You can afford to be magnanimous as his complaint ultimately won't change anything.
