MN users should stop placemarking

Trueheart1 · 09/12/2017 10:34

There is a very easy to use bookmark function on the MN site that keeps your place on any thread that you are watching. Therefore there is no reason for posters to "placemark". Placemarking just fills up a thread.
Just hover over the bottom right corner of a post and it will give you the option to bookmark.

It is like people who use post the word F on Facebook to follow a discussion because they do not know to turn on notifications.

Placemarking.

Are you in charge or something?!

MarmiteandToast · 09/12/2017 10:37

I think it contributes to the lively nature of some threads!

winefortea · 09/12/2017 10:38

Bookmarking g doesnt put it into threads you are watching though, it just brings you back to that point in the thread.

Not in charge, just bored of reading the word"Placemarking".

winedortea. Watch the thread and then bookmark the post you get to. It works perfectly.

Placemarking

Trueheart1 · 09/12/2017 10:40

Valerrie, thanks for my first biscuit.

plus, to read the deletion message, you need to write something.
Which accounts for all the ‘hope you’re OK, OP’ messages, I suspect.

Unnoticed · 09/12/2017 10:43

I agree - bookmark and watch. Not unusual to get 800+ placemarking type responses. It’s dull.

If you are that interested in the deletion messages just search your own history and click on threads that have vanished - that will bring you the deletion message.

DivisionBelle · 09/12/2017 10:46

Oh, god the endless disingenuous good wishes.....

Creates pages of what is essentially spam, then people can’t be arsed to RTFT and discussion flounders.

It’s selfish.

Valerrie · 09/12/2017 10:46

I was placemarking Wink

Valerrie · 09/12/2017 10:47

On a serious note though, I find the single full stops really rude, especially on a thread where the OP is in a distressing situation.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/12/2017 10:48

It's rude and there's no need for it, just put in on watched.

Mulch · 09/12/2017 10:49

I use the app and it crashes so unashamedly place mark

Goingalonenow · 09/12/2017 10:51

Placemarking.

LivLemler · 09/12/2017 10:59

I'm with you OP. I use tabs on both phone and laptop, and keep a tab open for any thread I'm following. I keep my place and can see the deletion message without posting for the sake of it.

Oblomov17 · 09/12/2017 11:03

Hovering on the bottom right doesn't work on my phone OP.
And no. Place-marking doesn't bother me. I only do it occasionally. Others doing it? Fine.

Trueheart1 · 09/12/2017 11:04

Mulch, even if the app crashes it actually takes less time to press the bookmark button than to write the word placemark.

OP posts:
Userplusnumbers · 09/12/2017 11:05

Not placemarking, definitely not.

Trueheart1 · 09/12/2017 11:05

Oblomov17 what make of phone do you have?

YANBU

And the people who post nothing but a . on sensitive threads are arseholes.

At least be stealthy about it. Posting a . on a sensitive thread just makes you look like you are enjoying the drama of someone else's hardship.

TrojansAreSmegheads · 09/12/2017 11:12

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Exactly U2 - they could at least post a few sympathetic words.

As for the people ‘placemarking’ on this thread - you really aren’t funny, witty or entertaining.
