MN users should stop placemarking

There is a very easy to use bookmark function on the MN site that keeps your place on any thread that you are watching. Therefore there is no reason for posters to "placemark". Placemarking just fills up a thread.
Just hover over the bottom right corner of a post and it will give you the option to bookmark.

It is like people who use post the word F on Facebook to follow a discussion because they do not know to turn on notifications.

I’ve been on here for years and am suitably embarrassed that I didn’t know that you could bookmark a thread!

I am watching the thread and there’s no bookmark button so clearly it’s not always an option

Placemarking

Sometimes when watching a thread the deletion message doesn't come up for me.

winedortea. Watch the thread and then bookmark the post you get to. It works perfectly.

I don't get an option to watch a thread. I have the tab for 'I'm watching' ('watching' if I'm on my mobile), but not option to watch, whereas I can, and do, bookmark. If I want to be sure I can find the thread again I need to comment. I usually make an actual comment, but I can see why people just say 'placemarking'.

Am I missing something?

Actually, I tell a lie! I can see the 'watch this thread' button on the computer, but not on my mobile. Is there a way to watch from my mobile?

Winefortea - if you go to the top of this thread you should see a small down arrow next to AIBU on the right hand side - if you press that it gives you an option to Watch / unwatch

I can watch a thread but I can’t bookmark on my phone, wish I could, drives me batty trying to find my place in a fast moving thread!

Watched threads show the deletion message (it changed a couple of weeks ago), but I don't use MN on my phone so that may just be on the desktop version.

Why bother though? Deletion messages are not what they used to be.

Nothing, in theory. But in practice it looks like it's just posters promting the OP for an update. In other words asking the OP to give them the next installment in the saga of their shitty relationship.

Well, whilst we are in the 'policing threads' mode, what about asking posters not to repeat the same thread that gets done on about a monthly basis too ?

MNHQ sometimes did some funny / witty deletion messages. Which of course just encouraged people to post on troll threads to get in on the Deletion Message Action, and upped the ante for trolls....

Bookmark doesn't show unless you hover. Just sayin'

It is a bit rude. It's a bit like saying 'I have nothing to say but I want to find out what happens in the end/or if you are a troll.'

If you're using a computer/iPad then you hover in the bottom right hand corner of the post you want to bookmark, and it should come up and you click it, it should say 'saved' and then you click watch this thread.

If you're using a mobile then you press the three dots in the bottom right hand corner of the post and press bookmark and then watch the thread

You get a deletion message if you are just watching too.
