I've just done such a stupid thing!

I've name changed, as this level of stupidity cannot be connected to me 😜.

I've spent around 16 hours over the past three days on a very complicated cross stitch. I've just noticed that I had the bloody canvas turned portrait instead of landscape! Arrrrgggggghhhhh!!! I'm going to have to unpick everything I've done so far 😩😩😭😭.

Can somebody please say something to make me feel better about my fuck-up? So I can know I'm not alone? Please...

You're not alone! I did cross stitch and once did such a monumental miscount that I couldnt even bodge it or salvage it. Weeks of work. I binned it and bought another kit.

Can you alter the pattern so it fits - leave a border off for example?

Unfortunately not . I'd have to lose a whole tree on one side and 1.5 trees on the other side.

Is it really bad in that the cross stitch won't fit on the canvas? If not, I'd be tempted to just keep going and have a smaller border round it when it's finished.

No paap - if I don't re-start it the right way around I'll lose quite a bit of the image. I'm so cross with myself right now!

Once had to take a whole trampoline base apart as we'd put it on the wrong way. Was 20 degrees outside and a day I never want to repeat.

Don't even go to the ikea furniture that inevitably we have to retrace steps.

Oh and it looks soooo difficult .

The only really stupid thing I've done was forget I was on the kitchen table painting the ceiling!!!! Luckily I didn't break anything when I landed (on my feet) !!

I spent ages on a complicated carousel using two diff colour threads etc - realised my canvas wasn't big enough to complete and frame - its sat under my bed. My sister got me the pattern for my 21st...am 50 next yr

Get more Aida. overlap slightly and stitch through both pieces for 1cm or so.

Ohh my commiserations! What an amazing picture once finished though. In case it makes you feel any better, I once had to unpick about half of the height I had knitted of an adult fully patterned fairisle jumper because I forgot about armholes...

I once rang Sky and arranged an engineer to look at it and spent six days without television because it had stopped working. He came out, took a look at it, pressed the "source" button on my remote and it flickered into life. I have never been so embarrassed in all my life. I KNOW I have to do that so why I couldn't realise that for six days is beyond me

That's a good idea Head - the only thing is it was posted from the US, and the company uses their own custom colours, so I might not find a colour match. But I'll have a look .

That is a really beautiful cross stitch OP.

I once started making a lamb shank stew dish for dinner, spent ages preparing it, cooking it and everything. Then instead of removing the shanks and straining the sauce to reduce, I went onto autopilot and poured all the lovely sauce down the sink instead of saving it. I was SO annoyed with myself!!

Mission - I had the same type of silly thing. My hot water wouldn't work. No hot water, and no shower either, as it works off the hot water tank. Five days without hot water and only cold showers later, the electrician/plumber spent over an hour trying to figure out what the problem was, and had to admit defeat. For me to then move the bread bin (in front of him) and realise the fuse switch behind it had been switched off somehow. Flicked the switch and voila - hot water! Luckily he didn't charge me full price lol.

My neighbour let her df decorate her big sitting room /dining room then told him the wallpaper was upside down..

As it's a full on picture, can you not just lightly at stitch another piece of fabric? Surely once it's finished it won't be noticeable?
