I've tried to like it, I mean it's cheap as anything but, every single time I buy meat specifically chicken it smells vile! Like it's gone off and it's rubbery 😷
This isn't just the one Aldi I've been to lots around my area and out of it and it's all the fucking same! That's another load straight in the bin and I'm off to Sainsbury's tomorrow.

So AIBU and picky or has anybody else experienced this?

Orange, 30 bottles of maple syrup? Do you run a cafe?!

crazypenguinlady · 16/10/2017 20:35

YANBU

My local Aldi is new but poor. I find it's low quality knockoffs, poor fruit and veg (goes off within days), bread products are dense and hard, cereals are shit...

The ONLY good things there are the curry jars (with spices on top) and chocolate.

Oh and last week, there were seasonal squash half rotten on the shelf

Ronnyhotdog · 16/10/2017 20:36

Last time I went I had a panic attack, you can’t actually stop and look properly without getting in someone’s way or being trapped by a circle of fellow shoppers. If dh hadn’t been there I would’ve abandoned the trolley and ran. Dh & dc do like the meat from there though, I don’t eat it so can’t comment. I’ve had rank, eggy chicken from Sainsbury’s & Asda enough times to make me stop eating it altogether.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/10/2017 20:37

I don't go. I learned my lesson.

LongWavyHair · 16/10/2017 20:37

Yanbu. Everything about ALDI is crap. It makes me laugh how people who aren't struggling rave about it because they saved about £2. Shut up! Grin

AllToadsLeadToHome · 16/10/2017 20:37

Lidl is the same. Fortunately I don't have to shop there as there are plenty of other choices so only brave the scrum and the shit heap in the centre of the stores when we need to replace the washing powder or shower spray because the fruit & veg goes off quickly, the chicken is rank, the butter is watery the cheese has no taste, the Floralys 4 ply toilet paper we used to go there specially to get is no longer stocked and the dishwasher cleaner is no longer sold. I really have no need to go there at all but I live with someone who is a bit weird about things and keeps wanting to give it a try.
I made the mistake of buying the fake Laughing Cow cheese triangles last time and they are disgusting, they taste of cinnamon flavoured feet.

sayyouwill · 16/10/2017 20:38

YABMU.
Aldi is life.

Ttbb · 16/10/2017 20:38

I make a rule of only buying meat at Waitrose/M&S (we don't eat very much). Even there it's barely edible. Most meat in the uk is disgusting.

Ttbb · 16/10/2017 20:39

Except the pork, British pork is ok.

Ttbb · 16/10/2017 20:39

But, my local Aldi does really good berries. Well worth the trip.

BuzzKillington · 16/10/2017 20:39

My son, in his first year at uni last year, lived very close to an aldi.

Great, I said, you'll be able to buy really cheap food.

He soon tired of the cheapness. He reckons everything is really poor quality and fruit and veg goes off almost immediately.

He likes their cheap spirits though.

Chirpychirpycheepcheep · 16/10/2017 20:40

Unless ur buying extra special/organic or going to a local butchers then, as PP have said, it's the exact same general supplier that suppies asda, tesco, aldi their meat. People shop with their eyes first i suppose. You may think Aldi meat is shit but Tesco meat will be equally as shit. Just go to a local butcher.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/10/2017 20:41

^the fake Laughing Cow cheese triangles . . . taste of cinnamon flavoured feet.*

Oh? I might get some

VioletCharlotte · 16/10/2017 20:41

We've not got an Aldi, but I've fall out of love for Lidl. Fruit and Veg are poor quality and just lately they don't seem to have half the stuff I need and I was spending more topping up in other supermarkets.

I've gone back to Asda now and I'm spending about the same overall.

FritataPatate · 16/10/2017 20:42

Dinosaur , tell me more about the fake Jo Malone candles!

user263781638 · 16/10/2017 20:43

See even them candles are shit! They smell lovely till you burn them then nada, waste of £3 or how ever much they are 🙄

Hommus is literally half the price of anywhere else and tastes lovely. French cheese and Stilton fantastic. Venison burgers, chicken and salmon all great. Frozen fish like the lemon sole is amazing value as is dark chocolate and nuts.

The only things I haven't liked is the Prosecco ( gives me a headache) and the roast beef which was tough.

PandorasXbox · 16/10/2017 20:44

I’ve tried it a few times but the whole shopping experience plus rubbish food makes it a no brainer to swerve it.

dementedma · 16/10/2017 20:44

Agree that fruit and veg doesnt last long but buy almost all our shopping there. Sausages and cold meats are good, tinned goods fine, chocolate is delicious, wine excellent, cleaning products are great....

howdoyoudecide · 16/10/2017 20:48

I get the Aldi nappies and some of their snacks. Lidl does great frozen turkeys for xmas and maple syrup. That’s it!

RavenLG · 16/10/2017 20:49

It's all the same stuff bit priced lower and in different packaging. There was the programme about meat showing them taking sainos stickers off and putting Aldi stickers on. And loads of people have found proper hula hoops in the "knock off" multipacks from Aldi.

Don't know what you lot are doing to the veg to make it go off so quickly. I have a pack of grapes on my desk at work that last longer than a week and celery in the fridge from 2 weeks ago perfectly fine.

Just snobbery imo but the less people that shop there the less people clogging up the tills with their slow packing.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 16/10/2017 20:50

I much prefer lidl to aldi, but I am quite a boring shopper and we tend to eat the same kind of stuff each week. I love our Lidl. It's always quiet and I feel like I am in a supermarket on my holidays Grin

I really don't like aldi at all. It seems to be dull lighting and always looks like a shit tip.

SecretSmellies · 16/10/2017 20:50

good bratwursts and fabulous french camembert IMO.:)

InsomniacAnonymous · 16/10/2017 20:51

Their outdoor bred pork loin steaks (I think that's what they're called but can't see them on the website at the moment) are the best I've ever had. Wonderful flavour, very tender and succulent.

user263781638 · 16/10/2017 20:51

Oh and your not supposed to pack your bags at the till, that's what the packing area is for, this really bugs me it's quite obvious but it doesn't mean I want my food launched at me at 100mph
I've tried the nappies they have a smell to them like pampers do 😷
