Harvey Weinstein

Rumours have been circulating about this disgusting man and his sleazy casting couch for years... He has offered a half-hearted apology, but seems rather smug about the fact that his family are supporting him.

AIBU to think his wife is misguided? What sort of example is she setting to her daughter? After all, this isn't a one-off - it is a pattern of serious abuse of women over decades.

A mistake to me is a one off aberration. His was a pattern of behaviour going on for years. That's not "a mistake".

coconuttella · 12/10/2017 18:49

I'm over 30 and have never experienced it, so not everyone has. Horrifying how many people have though.

Never ever harassed by a lecherous boy/man at school/pub/club?

DarthMaiden · 12/10/2017 18:52

@coconuttella

Absolutely - a mistake is thinking a fat ball is a healthy snack....

Abusing, coercing and threatening women for decades is a personality disorder (and not a sex addition) that derives pleasure form the domination and bullying of women.

gluteustothemaximus · 12/10/2017 19:00

Emma Thompson nailed it ‘he’s not a sex addict, he’s a predator’

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

ZooeyAndFranny · 12/10/2017 19:07

I have managed to miss the more extreme coercion and abuse, but casual things such as have a man expose himself to me in a Paris park in broad daylight, have a man grab my arse as I was waiting for a bus near Piccadilly Circus at night as he walked past, and be propositioned explicitly by a man who mistook me for a sex worker as a teenager....this is 'normal' life, sadly.

badbadhusky · 12/10/2017 19:21

I had this happen - I was 17, my sis was 15 & we were waiting near the local cinema for Dad to collect us post-Rocky Horror Show. We were wearing typical RHS attire, but still!

CaveMum · 12/10/2017 19:40

When I was about 20 a drunk man who had to be at least 50 approached me in a bar and offered me £200 to go home with him. I was with friends who all laughed so he slunk away but I was really intimidated.

Also lost count of the number of times I've had my arse groped in night clubs but the one that sticks out is the guy a friend set me up with who thought it was acceptable to shove his hands down the front of my trousers in a nightclub. I was so shocked I just stood there frozen to the spot.

Emma Thompson’s interview about HW on the BBC is worth a watch.

CaveMum · 12/10/2017 20:14

I do love Emma Thompson.

CaveMum · 12/10/2017 20:19

Rose Mcgowan's Twitter is back up.

KrytensNanobots · 12/10/2017 20:26

Never ever harassed by a lecherous boy/man at school/pub/club

No. I appreciate I may have just been lucky though.

southeastdweller · 12/10/2017 20:31

I love Emma but according to her she ‘didn’t know’. What bollocks.

DeleteOrDecay · 12/10/2017 20:38

Love Emma Thompson’s answer to the question about whether others were as bad as HW. A brilliant answer to a monumentally stupid question.

HadronCollider · 12/10/2017 20:43

I suppose it might (clutching at straws here as I don't want to add ET to the lists of unlikables) that it was possible to know but not really know to what extent and with whom to what extent. The women who he abused would not necessarily have talked about it. How many people knew for certain GP had suffered for eg? ET may genuinely have been one of the lucky ones. Removed from all the rumour mill and first hand experience by several degrees. I appreciate I'm grasping here.

HadronCollider · 12/10/2017 20:46

On my phone grammar is crap

Jane Fonda says she only found out about HW a year ago and apologises for not speaking out

derxa · 12/10/2017 20:57

I do love Emma Thompson. I don't.

Dapplegrey2 · 12/10/2017 21:13

How did everyone else seem to know but not Emma?

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 12/10/2017 21:26

So Emma is saying she didn't know he was a pest but is not surprised by the revelations given how endemic harassment is in the industry. Yet she called him out for fat-shaming/bullying Hayley Atwell (who also claimed he flirted with her) a decade ago. Jane Fonda says she heard rumours a year ago and regrets not speaking out. British producer Alison Owen said you if you were in the film industry there was no way you couldn't have heard the stories about Harvey, albeit second hand.

24 women on record, different levels of success, different nationalities, all telling a similar story of a sleazebag with a definite M.O including being duped by assistants, agents, acquaintances. How many will it take before a DA can take legal action?

I added up my own experiences of harassment from being propositioned by a work colleague to having to fight off a date : 11 in total. 11. And I am in my forties.
DD: 3 and not yet in her twenties. Plus ca change...

user1497863568 · 12/10/2017 21:35

Gorgeous: I don’t think they can take action because he was a known sleazebag, only if they have a chance of proving assault.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 12/10/2017 21:48

24 women all confirming lewd conduct?

InigoTaran · 12/10/2017 22:02

This is a v sad article by a British actress who was profoundly affected by HW’s behaviour when she was a young actress.

God he’s such a tosser!
