DH and I spent our wedding anniversary in a v expensive boutique hotel. I took the body lotion and soap home as I usually would do (sad, but I get v excited about these things!)Yesterday we received a letter from the hotel asking for us to send the 2 items back for the future enjoyment of guests!!! Talk about humiliation! Looking forward to MNetters views

I thought this must be a joke! Needless to say none of us will use them having read your post. I think it's them that are penny pinchers and should be ashamed of themselves. Wouldn't be surprised if they sent a note of apology for the misunderstanding if they ever saw this lot! Bet if you were "Lord and Lady..." they would not have written to you. at their behaviour. What if you had used every drop would they then have said, you used too much and so they have to charge you extra?!

Aloha · 05/04/2007 10:42

It would be acceptable have a little printed note saying, 'we at Strattons are very smug about our green policy. We have refillable recycled GLASS soap dispensers not tested on bunny rabbits' eyes, organic cotton robes made by well treated Egyptian people working in a cooperative cotton farm etc. If you would like to buy one of our dispensers or robes, you can order them from reception or we can charge them to your room rate."

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 10:44

I just watch hotel babylon on tv

well they can rest easy as I won't be staying in stratton hotel with or without knowledge of their customer service policy as it is too posh and expensive!

Aloha · 05/04/2007 10:44

I stayed in a lovely LA hotel that had very swish dispensersfull of gorgeous Kiehls products that were attached to the wall. THought they were so groovy I tracked down something similar for the bathroom in my old house. Much more sensible IMO if you dont' want stuff taken.

WideWebWitch · 05/04/2007 10:46

lol Aloha

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 10:47

Why not have a sign saying "If you've enjoyed washing with our soap, you can buy it in reception but don't take the bottles, you fucker, or we'll get you"?

Tinkerdumpsandruns · 05/04/2007 10:49

pmsl at this thread. Oh, I do hope they post on here

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 10:51

WARNING: Removal of these cheap plastic bottles may result in humiliating harrasment after checkout.

Tinkerdumpsandruns · 05/04/2007 10:51

I have my eye on the mirror in the bathroom. Hope that's from recycled glass.

SherlockLGJ · 05/04/2007 10:51

Still no reply ...............~~~~~~LGJ drums her fingers.

HuwEdwards · 05/04/2007 10:52

Petty, snidey (because they weren't upfront about their (to my mind) very dubious 'green' policy and I would never darken their bloody doors again.

JanH · 05/04/2007 10:52

Oh I do love it when Aloha gets snippy!

Am I the only one sniggering at dejags "the Honeymoon suite with an interconnecting room for the children"?

deasterjags · 05/04/2007 10:53

Jan - we thought it hysterical too. I suppose it must be something to do with the Cambodian family unit.

m2s, tell them that in your letter. They should be ashamed, not you.

SherlockLGJ · 05/04/2007 10:57

Mum2sons

Fear not, I have e-mailed them.

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 10:57

m2s, they'll be reading this thread.

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 11:00

I gather swaffham is itself a bit uninspiring unless you are on your homeymoon or wedding aniversary then

mum2sons · 05/04/2007 11:00

How do they know we are not Lord and Lady?!

HuwEdwards · 05/04/2007 11:01

Sherlock - spill! What did you say in your email?

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 11:01

I emailed, too.

custy · 05/04/2007 11:02

send the soap back with a pube

WideWebWitch · 05/04/2007 11:03

If I was Strattons I'd send you an email saying something like

"Dear zzzz/

Thank you for letting us know about the letter you received from x at Strattons. I am sorry, we shouldn't have sent this and I unreservedly apologise.

As we don't make it clear that we would like guests to leave toiletries in the room we were very wrong to write asking for their return. We have re trained the person who wrote to you and are sending them on additional customer service and hospitality training.

We really want to make it up to you and so would like to offer you and your partner a room for two nights completely free of charge. We hope you will take us up on this offer where we will do our utmost to show you that Strattons can provide excellent hospitality and customer service. yrs, etc"

Because sometimes great customer service is about how well you recover when you've pissed off a customer. They could redeem themselves yet but only, imo, with something like the above.

SherlockLGJ · 05/04/2007 11:04

I just sent them a link to this thread. With a note saying something along the lines that I rather suspected that their green policy had backfired on this occasion.

custy · 05/04/2007 11:05

i think as recompence they should treat everyone on this thread to a free night
