DH and I spent our wedding anniversary in a v expensive boutique hotel. I took the body lotion and soap home as I usually would do (sad, but I get v excited about these things!)Yesterday we received a letter from the hotel asking for us to send the 2 items back for the future enjoyment of guests!!! Talk about humiliation! Looking forward to MNetters views

Not a litre bottle! More like 250mls.

nogoes · 05/04/2007 14:55

Lol Fio

Dinosaur · 05/04/2007 14:56

Yes Fio, it wasn't an issue at the backpackers' hostel I've just stayed in either .

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 14:57

I always bring my own toiletries because I am a product snob .

Particularly about hair products.

Aloha · 05/04/2007 14:58

Is amusing me that this will turn up when anyone googles 'strattons'

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 14:59

this thread is the nearest i'm ever likely to get to a 250 a night hotel so i am making the most of it

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 15:01

OMG, my cousin's boss is having a field day with this!

'I'd fire any staff who did this to our guests!'

'I'm going to use this to demonstrate how not to treat our clients.'

Aloha · 05/04/2007 15:01

Can I just check with OP

The bottles were plastic, weren't they?
How big?
Did you half-inch a gold-plated special tray and decorative collar with each?

mum2sons · 05/04/2007 15:17

The bottles were plastic, 200/250mls, no gold plated stuff in sight

The bottles are now on their way back to the hotel. I hope the postie doesnt get done for handling stolen goods

I forgot to say that I am SURE they watered down the soap anyway. Who said it was £17.50? Even Molton Brown is not that much and that is much nicer.

I think I'd make a point of staying at Strattons if I need to be in Norfolk and drain all six bottles into my own containers.

petty but rewarding

expatinscotland · 05/04/2007 15:22

Actually, my folks really are going to Norfolk when they're across in July.

Won't be staying in Stratton's, though.

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 16:05

I've been to Swaffham. Didn't stay at Strattons though. Would've been better than the odd trapped-in-the-past hotel we did stay in, but more expensive, I think.

[gammon and pineapple for dinner]

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 16:08

their website is very nice I think

thelady · 05/04/2007 16:25

That's why we (small, not-nearly-so-expensive-hotel) provide single-use small bottles of shampoo & shower gel, and individual, wrapped soap bars. FGS - help yourself, we're only going to have to chuck them when you check out!

geordiemacminx · 05/04/2007 16:28

I think the local press would be really interested in a story like this... after all its kept us entertained most of the day....

I know someone mentioned it before, but are you sure this isnt someone playing an aprils fools day ?

FlossALump · 05/04/2007 17:00

Not sure I'd want to use body lotion thats been in the room for however long. Only takes one sick minded man on his own and bored to ruin a lovely body lotion /conditioner...

Or does that say more about my mind than anybody elses?

SherlockLGJ · 05/04/2007 17:41

Still no reply to my e-mail.

I am off to change my deoderant.

FlossALump · 05/04/2007 17:46

ahh, poor Sherlock!

Perhaps they are preparing an individual one especially for you?!!

Aloha · 05/04/2007 17:47

They'll probably charge you for it

zippitippitoes · 05/04/2007 17:57

I doubt if they'll reply..I wouldn't

Sorry M2s! I reckon scanning and fingerprinting is required on entry to this place, and scanning of cases on exit!

WideWebWitch · 05/04/2007 18:44

I'm gobsmacked at their snotty response on the other thread. It really, really won't do them any favours this, publicity wise. What is it something like "do something good and a customer tells 10 people, piss them off and they tell 100" or something, I'm paraphrasing.
What idiots. Oh well, I won't ever stay there or recommend it. I think someone should tell Mr&Mrs smith guides too, their readers ought to be aware of this stuff and I think Strattons is in the latest UK guide.

hunkermunker · 05/04/2007 19:15

Thing is, how were they 100% sure that someone else hadn't taken them? That would have stopped me writing to ask for them back, if nothing else. Imagine accusing a guest of stealing if they hadn't!
