Best restaurant in England?

NSEA · 02/09/2017 19:25

Can I ask what has been your best restaurant? I'm not talking favourite Saturday night evening out. I mean those ultra special restaurants where you pay ££££s and get 16 courses or something and its all about the experience etc.

Really want to do this. A friend has been to Leeds Man behind the Curtain and it looks fantastic, though Im not a fan of sea food so I am looking for similar but different!

Thanks!!

Brasserie Blanc in Winchester

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 02/09/2017 19:41

I've never really got on with long tasting menus. Either something's amazing, and you find yourself wishing you had more than a wee sliver of it, or it's less than amazing, and you're already wondering what's next, and have forgotten you even ate it by the next day.

I prefer the less fashionable places where you can still go a la carte, like The Ledbury or Chez Bruce.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoor · 02/09/2017 19:41

I haven't done mega ££££ but the best meal I ever had was Menu Gordon Jones in Bath. Just divine. Not posh though if that's what you're after.

HRpodperson · 02/09/2017 19:41

Le Gavroche in London is absolutely amazing. I've heard good things about Heston Blumenthal's restaurants as well.

NSEA · 02/09/2017 19:42

The Ledbury certainly looks nice.

L'Enclume is fab

Orangebird69 · 02/09/2017 19:43

I wouldn't say BB in Winchester is exactly fine dining Confused

NSEA · 02/09/2017 19:43

Not looking for posh, especially. Not averse to it either. Just amazing special occasion food, basically

Restaurant Story in London. Fantastic experience.

NSEA · 02/09/2017 19:45

Any recommendations in north of England?

I am looking at all of these and could book them all!

I've been to the Hand and Flowers (once) and it was a-bloody-mazing!

mumblechum0 · 02/09/2017 19:45

My favourites are:

Le Manoir (always fab and love staying over too)
L'Enclume (but way up in Cumbria so we combined it with vising family there)
Fat Duck

However, I just noticed that you're not necessarily looking for ultra-posh. I like the Ivy chain (Kensington and Marlow particularly,) which are nice and not v expensive.

Glitteryfrog · 02/09/2017 19:46

Adam's or Purnells in Birmingham.
Hand and flowers in Marlow is pretty special.
I've heard good things about Hibiscus in Lomdom

strawberrygate · 02/09/2017 19:48

Whereabouts are you, and how far are you happy to travel?

Decsbetterhalf · 02/09/2017 19:49

Fat Duck
The Ledbury
Le Manoir
Hand and Flowers
The Waterside Inn
Le Gavroche
Pollen Street Social

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 02/09/2017 19:51

The fat duck. Amazing and much better than Heston's other place in London (the name escapes me at the mo). Proper once in a lifetime meal out.

strawberrygate · 02/09/2017 19:53

Best I've been to:

the fat duck
benares ( indian and amazin)
the french at the midland in Manchester
Northcote manor near blackburn
Adam's and purnells
marcus wareing

really need to go to le'nclume and dinner

HerLadySheep · 02/09/2017 19:53

Depends on location
Simpsons in Birmingham, Le Champignon Sauvage in Cheltenham and L'enclume in Cartmel are all fabulous

flutterworc · 02/09/2017 19:54

L'Eclume. Went for our anniversary 4yrs ago when pregnant and not only did they work around pregnancy/food intolerance, but what they made was beyond delicious. I honestly couldn't tell you what it was we ate (both preggo brain and actual inability to identify chunks of what we had!) but it's firmly fixed in my mind as the best meal I've ever had.

strawberrygate · 02/09/2017 19:54

I was very disappointed with Sat Bains.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 02/09/2017 19:54

ooh, I really fancy Benares. Didn't rate Northcote Manor though.
