Best restaurant in England?

Can I ask what has been your best restaurant? I'm not talking favourite Saturday night evening out. I mean those ultra special restaurants where you pay ££££s and get 16 courses or something and its all about the experience etc.

Really want to do this. A friend has been to Leeds Man behind the Curtain and it looks fantastic, though Im not a fan of sea food so I am looking for similar but different!

Thanks!!

Lemanoir I got engaged there, hope to go back some day, it's beuaitul, the staff are amazing and the food, no words, amazing. The whole experience feels very special.

benares i said on the way there that if we didn't get poppadums it's not a proper Indian. First thing they brought out was amazing minipoppadums with the most amazing chutneys. It was very fab.

Le manoir every time....and if your budget allows, stay over night.....it is incredible.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 02/09/2017 20:00

In the North - best restaurant I've been to is The Black Swan at Oldstead. Middle of nowhere, not too far from York/Harrogate, but it has lovely rooms.

strawberrygate · 02/09/2017 20:01

ooh, and the star inn at harome. proper old pub with michelin star food.

Eminybob · 02/09/2017 20:01

Where the Light Gets In in Stockport is pretty special.
They have no menu but several courses made from what has been sourced or foraged that week, accompanied by a wine taster matched to each course (or juice for the non drinkers)
Quite expensive but definatley an experience.

nobullshitallowed · 02/09/2017 20:03

Vaughan's restaurant in Weymouth. Haven't been since our last trip a year ago, but it's amazing food.

Le Gavroche is the greatest restaurant of all time.

Shaun Dickens at the Boathouse in Henley is fabulous but less pricey. Great tasting menu

OliviaBenson · 02/09/2017 20:06

The Star Inn at Harome is fab!

FinallyHere · 02/09/2017 20:06

Another vote for Le Manoir

If you are coming some distance, all the more reason to stay the night. Enjoy!

strawberrygate · 02/09/2017 20:07

olivia I have very fond memories of it. we took our 3 yo and at the time 2 week old boys and it was amazing food and amazing staff.

TallulahBetty · 02/09/2017 20:07

L'Enclume in the Lake District. Words cannot express!

fruitpastille · 02/09/2017 20:08

In the North
The angel at Hetton
Devonshire Arms - there are two restaurants - fine dining/brasserie
The Box Tree in Ilkley

Crumbelina · 02/09/2017 20:09

I love The Ledbury, Restaurant Story and Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley (latter was a few years ago now).

I also loved Sketch when they did the set lunch menu for around £50 but they've stopped it now and starters are around £50. Shock Best to go for the tasting menu.

Don't hate me but I wasn't overly impressed with Le Gavroche but maybe it's because we had the set lunch and I didn't choose well enough. Michel Roux is lovely though. Smile

2014newme · 02/09/2017 20:09

According to the good food guide it's Nathan outlaw.
I've only been to 20 of the top 100.

strawberrygate · 02/09/2017 20:10

I'd forgotten about the Box Tree. That was good

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 02/09/2017 20:10

Brasserie Blanc? The chain restaurant?Confused

Le Gavroche for me, great service but not stuffy.

NSEA · 02/09/2017 20:11

Ok Lenclume and lemanoir are leading at the mo. I am near the lakes, actually. Though a stopover sounds ideal too!!

Box Tree or The Raby Hunt in the north. Man Behind the Curtain is uber pretentious.

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 02/09/2017 20:12

Witchery by the castle in Edinburgh.

PseudoBadger · 02/09/2017 20:12

Gauthier Soho

strawberrygate · 02/09/2017 20:12

marmalade we're booked for the man behind the curtain in October. is it overtly wanky then?

Fizzyknickers · 02/09/2017 20:13

The Chef's Table in Chester. Beautiful food. Beautiful city!
