Best restaurant in England?

NSEA · 02/09/2017 19:25

Can I ask what has been your best restaurant? I'm not talking favourite Saturday night evening out. I mean those ultra special restaurants where you pay ££££s and get 16 courses or something and its all about the experience etc.

Really want to do this. A friend has been to Leeds Man behind the Curtain and it looks fantastic, though Im not a fan of sea food so I am looking for similar but different!

Thanks!!

Wherearemymarbles · 02/09/2017 22:11

Used to love sharrow bay when owned by coulson and sack. Not been there a while either.

LoveAfternoonTea · 02/09/2017 22:12

Le Manoir is just wonderful. Am desperate to try the Inverlochy Castle near Fort William one day too, if that isn't a bit too far north.

LoveAfternoonTea · 02/09/2017 22:14

Sorry, you said England. Fort William is most definitely Scotland.

Adams in Birmingham was amazing. My partner took me there for my birthday and proposed the same night!

leddeeburdee · 02/09/2017 22:18

Le Manoir. Amazing food and service.

Runlovingmummy81 · 02/09/2017 22:19

Lasan in Birmingham is also very good.

DjangoUnchained · 02/09/2017 22:20

My DSis got married there.

The Sportsman in Seasalter, Kent-amazing food
Hakkasan for great Chinese
Wasn't that impressed with Benares or Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley

reallyanotherone · 02/09/2017 22:22

Watching :)

PUGaLUGS · 02/09/2017 22:25

Have been a dozen or so times to The Man Behind The Curtain and twice to The Rabbit in The Moon (Manchester). Love them.

Sat Bains in Nottingham is fabulous.

MorrisZapp · 02/09/2017 22:28

I wouldn't go to any of these places as I would be made to feel embarrassed for drinking beer instead of wine. I've never liked wine but waiters in posh restaurants seem to think its the only acceptable accompaniment to food. I'd rather just relax and enjoy.

mummy2oneandtwo · 02/09/2017 22:30

In Birmingham Purnells and Adams are both amazing. Hand of flowers in Marlow is also fantastic.

If I had to pick my favourite out of the 3, I'd go back to Purnells again.

Lenclume in cartmel or their cheaper sister restaurant Rogans.

Also the samling, the forest side, grasmere and Gilpin lodge all Michelin stated.

somewhereovertherain · 02/09/2017 22:32

Lenclume sells some fantastic local Cartmel beer.

ZivaDiva · 02/09/2017 22:33

The Star at Harome in North Yorkshire. Lovely rooms too.

Adams in Birmingham!
Adams
Adams
&
Adams!!

Amazing service! Amazing food! Been a couple of times... 8 course taster menu...

I live the unstuffy atmosphere... Relaxed with dress code and super friendly!!... And the food!.... Hmmm!

Bea · 02/09/2017 22:40

... Also! Don't drink... So I've never had the wine... Just tap water... Or sparkling!! (if I'm pushing the boat out!!)... And never been made to feel awkward about it!!

PUGaLUGS · 02/09/2017 22:41

Bea, DH has been to Adams he really liked it.

FairyPenguin · 02/09/2017 22:42

Fera at Claridges is the best tasting menu I have had - it's a Simon Rogan restaurant (of L'Enclume).

J Sheekeys is one we've been to a few times - fantastic seafood and relaxed atmosphere.

AgentCooper · 02/09/2017 22:44

If it's the north, then Northcote or the Lake Road Kitchen would be my choices - both absolutely brilliant.

I was impressed by L'Enclume but didn't find it all that pleasurable or relaxing.

LockedOutOfMN · 02/09/2017 22:50

I like The Bleeding Heart in Farringdon. French food.

Marmenteum · 02/09/2017 22:52

Bulrush

MrsPworkingmummy · 02/09/2017 22:53

We enjoyed a 10 course tasting menu with wine pairing and added cheese/port course at Number 1, The Balmoral in Edinburgh. Very expensive, and fairly pretentious, but a great experience as a one off. (The bill without a tip was £470 for the two of us)

My favourite tasting menu has to have been at Jesmond Dene House in Newcastle. Very local to us and I love it. Again, we tried the 10 course tasting menu with wine match and it was just fabulous. Much less formal than the Balmoral, but beautiful quality and the sommelier was super. (The bill was much cheaper in comparison to The Balmoral too, at around £250 for the two of us. That also included pre-dinner G&Ts)

foodiefil · 02/09/2017 22:54

Have been to the Black Swan at Oldstead today - divine.

L'enclume also amazing.

Star Inn - very, very good but not as good as the above.

That's my input!
