To be fed up of Instamums

Hmmmmx100 · 25/08/2017 22:56

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

Oo Susie Verrill has seen the thread and is complaining about it on her Insta stories.

She has spectacularly missed the point but ok :)

FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 20:40

I actually think it's a huge cop out to dismiss the whole of MN as a vile spiteful cesspit; I've received some amazing support here with MH issues and booting my violent ex.

lmarie31 · 02/09/2017 20:42

I think this whole 'Instamum' bashing is going a bit far. These women (&a men) started their instagram accounts to share pictures of their lives and children. Companies have since approached them and asked if they can pay them £x for using a product in a pic or 1 min video. I know plenty of mums and I am a part of a what's app group. On this group, if one of us has a promo or ducking code we share it to the group. Or if we come across a new stain remover that will remove baby s**t from a vest, we share it. We're passing on information to make another mums life a tiny bit easier. Now if Ariel happened to see my glowing review if their tablets and how brilliant they are and offered me a bit of money to do it again, you bet I'll snatch their hand off for the opportunity. That's all these mums (& dads) are doing but it's more public. For me YouTube is the place where it crosses the line, especially for the poor children who are vlogged daily!

BlueIsYou · 02/09/2017 20:42

Yes yes, just watched Susie's video on this thread. She has indeed missed out quite conveniently how nothing can ever look as perfect 24/7 as it does on Instagram.

She's very pretty though GrinGrin

lmarie31 · 02/09/2017 20:43

I mean discount code not ducking!!

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 20:44

Ah see now queue seventeen hundred replies from people who have seen the insta story, seen the title of this post, and decided to post in support of the instas without reading any of the further discussion.

I'm actually surprised at Susie verill. I don't follow her, but nearly all posts about her here are positive. Which shows she's not read it. She's foamed for reactions instead. Which is a shame.

Fairylea · 02/09/2017 20:46

Just a had a peek at the Susie V instastories... Mumsnet is not a "cesspit". It's a group of people discussing things, and sometimes people agree and sometimes they don't and very often there is amazing support and threads that make people laugh out loud. To dismiss it as a cesspit shows real ignorance about a very large, strong and active online community.

langkaw · 02/09/2017 20:47

It's quite a reasonable discussion we're having here I think.
Yes susie hasn't read the thread as she'd see she is quite respected.

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 20:48

I'm presuming if she hates mumsnet so much she wont come on for a FB live or a Live chat here when she has something to promote to mother's then. Like a lot of the other instamums have.

BlueIsYou · 02/09/2017 20:49

Wannabe I don't get your point? What's her having children young got to do with anything at all?

I was very studious and had my first pregnancy young. I also left education young but I earn at least twice that of anyone I know who's been to uni now and have no debt

FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 20:50

I find Susie funny but I've seen her be pretty spiteful before so it doesn't really shock me TBH.

I really don't think it's as simple as don't like don't follow.

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 20:51

Imarie, do you not think many of the discussed accounts have balanced it quite well? There is heavy critism for a few, but I think it's the sheer volume and different products. I agree with you, if I was offered money for Instagram it would be awesome, but some of the points are very valid, especially the points about children. People in the public eye do not just receive continuously positive adoration, there is a price, people will discuss things and also those who are heavily critical of others may find their critics harsher. It must be hard when an account explodes in popularity. But from the thread it's clear that there are successful ways of managing it.

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 20:51

I don't think anyone on here has said MODs is lazy have they? I'm guessing she perhaps hasn't read the whole thread and has been told a whole host of incorrect things about the thread

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 20:52

The only reason I've mentioned the mum of 8's spelling/grammar is because she makes out that she is so perfect but clearly isn't!

FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 20:52

Eh? Has MODs posted about it now too??

sandymckrackington · 02/09/2017 20:54

I find it quite ironic that she knows her sister is a prolific poster on here and has had a lot of help and support when her son was seriously ill with mental health problems (he was sectioned as a teen) Smoke and mirrors that's all I will say. Not the person she paints herself out to be. I won't say more for her sisters sake.

Not really a den so much.

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 20:56

No, Susie said on her Instagram stories that it had been said on here that MODs is lazy and then stuck her middle finger up.

BlueIsYou · 02/09/2017 20:56

Here Susie goes again, and now tries saying she doesn't get paid to promote Hmm err, maybe not in cash love.

Gosh I love this thread Grin

FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 20:57

Seriously who has said MODs is lazy?! Hmm

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 02/09/2017 20:57

Ooh she didn't like being referred to as just 'Greg Rutherford girlfriend' did she!?

Who is she anyway? And if she doesn't read mumsnet how come she saw this thread? Hmm

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 20:57

It's definitely not been said on this thread has it?

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 20:58

I don't think anyone said she was lazy? In fact a few referrenced her midwifery and said she is anything but.

God, having a public swear and rant on second hand information is a little embarrassing isn't it? Surely when people come here and read it they'll see what was discussed.

Ah sorry, they'll just pile in without reading like she did I guess.

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 20:58

Is there a simultaneous thread running we've missed?!?!

Fairylea · 02/09/2017 20:59

They're all so aggressive. (Yes I do get the irony of me saying that on this thread!) It always feels like they're all constantly on the defence. Why?! What is this "parenting the shit out of life" type approach. You're raising a child, not going to war. Hmm Sometimes it feels like our whole society is walking around with a pitchfork raised ready to poke at anyone at anytime.

FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 20:59

They all stick together. It's a clique. Much like they say mumsnet is really Wink
