To be fed up of Instamums

Hmmmmx100 · 25/08/2017 22:56

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

Mothervulva do you follow Erica Davies? she does fashion and interiors, her house is utterly beautiful and she's so nice, worth a follow.

Mothervulva · 02/09/2017 13:54

No, I'll check her out. Thanks.

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 14:02

Often the mums of lots of kids describe themselves as 'Mama to 9 precious babies' or some other such drivel.

*less alone. Large families are often judged negatively and it's been really useful for my mental health to find similar mum's. Some of them though are too good to be true.

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 14:13

!! Can't edit post, I didn't mean having a disabled child meant having a large family 🙄 I just meant that I found some families who ended up with one parent at home may have a different life than they ever planned. Although that could apply to anyone.

BlueIsYou · 02/09/2017 14:14

I do like Clenmie Telford, doesn't appear to be doing too much #ad , seems like a nice woman and has possibly the most gorgeous children.

I like her a lot but not sure why you'd think she has the most gorgeous kids. She doesn't Grin

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 14:15

Mummy, the smugness that I was referring to is an air of being a 'perfect mama' as they chose to have lots of children, and lots of bleating about how easy it is having lots of kids and how they only ever feed them organic food, and that all their kids are perfect. Maybe it's just that the ones who are like that are on Instagram.

BlueIsYou · 02/09/2017 14:16

I want to agree 100% that no one can be that perfect but I don't know...

My SIL has two under 3 and her home is always amazingly clean, show room ready. And she's always doing things with her children. She always looks fabulous too.

And her kids are impeccably behaved.

She doesn't have Instagram but would fit right in

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2017 14:23

Blue Grin, they appear to be sweet little boys, her eldest is hilarious. He was so happy last week with his new school uniform being 'so comfy'Grin

BlueIsYou · 02/09/2017 14:25

Still He does seem very sweet indeed!

Have to say though that I'm jealous of Martha's Happily After and want her gorgeous two girls Grin

Promise I'm normal, they're just so good looking!

DS has a lot to live up to (currently in utero)

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 14:29

Main I guess it's just a case of filtering through the nonsense. I follow the smug mum of 8 because she is so annoying. There's no way it's all that perfect. And she loves herself so much. Up all hours is a great account. One of them has just had her 3rd and like Clemmie Telford she's very normal. I've followed Clemmie Telford for a while and just realised I've no idea what she does or why she's part of the mod fod yesmum pack? Unmumsy is very likeable to. MOD is weirdly interesting. She seems to love the sound of her own voice and I've found her shaming posts pretty borderline. She's very driven and I imagine she'll get this thread taken down. I'm amazed we haven't already had a story and then how she's had 300 dm's telling her she's fabulous. She is driven and will obviously do well but she's becoming hard to relate to at all.

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 14:36

The mum of 8 totally loves herself doesn't she! It gets in my wick that her kids can never just be normal, she always has to boast that they're super bright/sassy/confident/a model. And don't even get me started on her recent bum shot of her sitting at the beach. 😂

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 14:39

Main- absolutely 😂 She's such a show off! I did once try to read her blog but she couldn't spell pregnancy, I don't go in for grammar policing, but if you've been pregnant 8 times I would hope you'd be able to spell it! The husband gives me the creeps.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2017 14:40

I doubt MoD will care about this thread, she'll chat with FoD, shrug her shoulders and forget about it.

She'll probably read one of YesMum's life affirmation cards "love yourself , you are worth it" and move on.

I hope she enjoys the attention and perks she gets through her account but with that comes criticism and scrutiny.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2017 14:42

Mumsy what does Clemmie Telford do, something at FB isn't it?

eekmumps · 02/09/2017 14:44

Who's the smug mum of 8??

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 14:45

No idea! She seems nice though! I don't think mod can take critism at all, or anyone disagreeing with her.

MainFlamingo · 02/09/2017 14:47

Haha mumsy yes he gives me the creeps too, with all the bleating on he does about her being 'fit'. I've noticed her spelling and grammar is rubbish too.

Eeek, her name is mumma hodge

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 14:48

She'll just go on another holiday without children and then complain her child has separation anxiety again when she returns.

LaMereDuChat · 02/09/2017 14:52

I really can't argue with MOD's decision to push her Instagram side - if I were on a midwife's wages and working those hours with two small children then I'd be looking for something that paid more and had more social hours.

I imagine that staging all those shots etc is actually quite hard work - some people on here seem to have forgotten that the image presented by instamums really won't be like their life. I only follow fashion blogs anyway, though... The Fashion Lift hasn't been mentioned here - if you're looking for a less 'out there' version of Dress Like A Mum then she's good. Also - Erica Davies, Chloe Loves to Shop, A Snapshot of Me and Iwontwearsludgebrown are good, if you like that fashion sort of thing. I think it saves me hours of trawling through shops and the internet for new clothes.

I also follow The Frugality, though I do think someone should take her aside and explain the meanin of 'frugality' as MiH etc doesn't fit into my definition of this!

acoupleofdaysago · 02/09/2017 14:55

Tee Clutter is worth a follow for fashion that isn't batshit crazy. I really like her style.

YY to the 'staging'. These instamums must devote countless energy to thinking and staging shots. How tedious.

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 14:56

There is an awful lot of wall standing. My kids would not be doing that.

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 14:58

I think the Villa holiday was the one that got a few people annoyed on the Mod and Fod pages. It was clear from the constant hashtags etc they'd had some kind of deal struck with the company for a discount or freebie, but it wasn't hashtagged ad or anything. So that's just trying to mislead people really imo. They must have incredible parents to be going away childless again this year - that kind of freedom I admit I am jealous of 😁

fivefour3twoone · 02/09/2017 14:58
