To be fed up of Instamums

Hmmmmx100 · 25/08/2017 22:56

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

Bubble that beautiful villa in Greece? Something like £7,000 a week to rent.

I don't think I'd turn it down either Smile.

DeleteOrDecay · 02/09/2017 15:05

The Dad Lab is a great one to follow on Instagram, I'm surprised he hasn't had a mention! He mostly does science activities with his two boys, things you can usually do with things around the home. I believe they are from Latvia? No adverts, there's toy review Tuesday but he picks out the toys himself, and to be fair a lot of the toys chosen are great, I've added a couple to my list for dd's birthday.

It's a fun little blog and a nice change from the usual instamums and dads.

I doubt MoD will care about this thread, she'll chat with FoD, shrug her shoulders and forget about it.

She'll probably read one of YesMum's life affirmation cards "love yourself , you are worth it" and move on

Grin Grin Grin.

BabsGanoush · 02/09/2017 15:08

What's with all the wrist watches - are they #advertising, or is it just a cool shot like standing in front of a colourful wall?

Boredboredboredboredbored · 02/09/2017 15:08

I do like Erica Davis too, she always tends to reply when you post. She sort of takes the piss of herself too and had stayed true to what she is about. She is her business, although I could never wear some of her clothes I admire her style. She does not push her kids in the limelight too much either. I also like that she is not stick thin like some of the other fashion people. I am afraid Chloelovestoshop is just too posh for a working class girl like me and I find her irritating.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2017 15:09

Kastelli House in Corfu if anyone fancies a holiday and got a spare £7,000.

#I'dloveaholidayinCorfuplease.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2017 15:12

Bored, I have a crush on Erica , her taste is faultless and she seems such a nice person. I love her house too.

Hmmmmx100 · 02/09/2017 15:13

I think the likes of MoD and FoD have very sycophantic followers, who'd probably comment 'I love you guys, your kids are beautiful!' if they posted a pic of the whole family draped over the loo in the throes of stomach flu - which I'm not 100% convinced they might not do in the future - that get me. 'You make #ads so interesting!' Errrr, not particularly.

In the nicest possible way 'smug' would have been very young when she had her first children and I doubt she finished her education.

CheesehBox · 02/09/2017 15:15

Which smug wannabe?

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 15:16

StillStayingClassySanDiego god no I wouldn't either - but they should have been clearer it was an ad surely?

Giovanna Fletcher got a Crete villa freebie the other week. She made it obvious and made a YouTube video as such. Everyone knew it was an Ad.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2017 15:17

I'm afraid that TheOnlyGirlInTheHouse is very much up MoD and FoD's arse, she posts gushing compliments a lot.

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 15:17

He genuinely seemed quite funny when he pretended to be A weird German character or when he staged bizarre photos (taking a photo of yourself in the bath with twins) but now it's like how funny can I make nits. Boys are not funny and I don't believe they regularly have races to blow dry and plait hair because neither of them are in the house together for long enough.

Hmmmmx100 · 02/09/2017 15:18

Giovanna Fletcher can afford her own bloody villa in Crete. The rich just get richer, baby.

True bubble, at the end of the day if they just said - how amazing we got offered this to review it etc rather than just tagging anc bragging.

Mumsytomy · 02/09/2017 15:20

*NOT BOYS ARE NOT FUNNY 🙄 Nits are not funny. Bloody phone.

HeyRoly · 02/09/2017 15:26

Speaking of Giovanna, I notice one of the other McFly WAGs hasn't wasted any time setting herself up as a Mummy Instagrammer/author.

acoupleofdaysago · 02/09/2017 15:29

Genuine question. Where do they find all these fucking silly walls?

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 15:30

Hmmmmm of course they can afford it. But it's advertising isn't it. So instead of being paid £50k a year as a face of L'Oréal like Cheryl (ok and the rest) they get a free holiday. It's clear its advertising and work.

HeyRoly do you mean Izzy? I've always liked her and Harry. Her author bit is a more like autobiographies used to be ive found, you remember ten fifteen years ago when everyone had an autobiography?

FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 15:33

Giovanna, I notice one of the other McFly WAGs hasn't wasted any time setting herself up as a Mummy Instagrammer/author.

2 of them have done it!

FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 15:33

I quite like Giovanna. Her writing is awful but she's written 3 books which to be fair to her is a lot more than I've done.

Hmmmmx100 · 02/09/2017 15:35

It's much easier to have a book published if your husband is famous...

OP posts:
FuckingLoveCarbs · 02/09/2017 15:36

Yes hmmm but she's actually finished writing them!!!

I'm an aspiring writer but I can barely get 20,000 words done so I'm jealous of/impressed by anyone who can make it to the very end even if it's cliched drivel.

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 15:39

Her books sell, and are in a similar vein to the other chick lit out there. Yes, she probably did have a door opened from Tom being in Mcfly, but no one can argue that she doesn't work hard in her own right. I remember last year when Mcfly were quiet and Tom didn't have a book release due she said she was actually the main breadwinner - her novels and ads paid for their house revamp etc.

langkaw · 02/09/2017 15:39

I've been thinking more about the business of putting kids in ads/on Instagram. Granted, it's not sending your kids up the chimneys but it's putting the parents financial needs before the needs of the kids. There's no way it can be in the best interests of the child. Does a child really understand the impact of a million views? What if the child isn't in the mood but there's a deadline? What if the kid feels awkward/embarrassed? What if they get an inflated sense of their own value from having all the 'gawgess!' Comments read out to them? (Which must be the motivator for a young kid surely ?) I dunno. I'm sure they'd reply saying their kids live it but it feels a bit Judy garland to me and not in the kids best interests at all.
