To be fed up of Instamums

Hmmmmx100 · 25/08/2017 22:56

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

Flex Appeal defending InstaMummies this morning "we're all just working mums" etc.

Guess people are reading this.

CheesehBox · 02/09/2017 09:47

To many children has put a story up about it.

TheLegendOfBeans · 02/09/2017 09:56

"Just women using whatever is in front of us to make a dime"

Yes, namely

  • your children (who have no say)
  • and your contacts in the friggin London Metropolitan Creative Elite

I know I'll get flamed for that last one but I hate the "oh we're just like you, all us mums together"

No, no you're not. At one time maybe you were, but not now.

dollydimplenotsosimple · 02/09/2017 09:57

MOD has also commented on her pic.

They're a "tribe of mamas" dontcha know

TheLegendOfBeans · 02/09/2017 09:57

And I say that as one of the capital's middle classes living in a v nice borough with all the comforts of life around me.

Hmmmmx100 · 02/09/2017 10:00

They're a comfortably off, well connected tribe.

What is always missing is the acknowledgement that this particular way of making their living (advertising) is their CHOICE.

All this "we're just trying to earn a crust of bread in this hard world" stuff. As if someone is putting a gun to their head!

Before Instagram they had other jobs! With salaries!

wannabestressfree · 02/09/2017 10:15

I dare you to say that ;) in a 'full of glee and passive aggressive way'.

LillyLollyLandy · 02/09/2017 10:17

Who is flex lady?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2017 10:21

Grin so they probably are all having a read,

I'm all for cashing in but it would seem that some are never off their phone or trying to conjure up ways to maintain popularity. As his older girls age they might well tell him to piss off with the phone .

#Fodmagicalmysterytour.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/09/2017 10:27

your children (who have no say)

I agree, especially with the first one. MOD was asking for help as one of her kids was constipated the other day. She actually named which child it was as well (bearing in mind that she's also a health professional, so surely she has some idea of what to do and if not just take her to the flippin' Doctors's).

I doubt if she was experiencing that particular problem first hand, her first port of call would be Instagram, so why do it you kids? Hmm

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 10:27

Of course they're reading. And hopefully it means they can see that a bit of balance is needed. We've all followed them (or still do) and liked their posts - but are simply commentating that since they've got PR companies they are as relatable, or likeable. You've only got to look at people like Katie Price to see what happens when something goes slightly wrong and the media/followers turn. And yes, it is a safety aspect with some, where home addresses etc are so well known.

mygorgeousmilo · 02/09/2017 10:28

Lily I think flex lady is MotherPukka

I actually don't get as offended by her, as at least there is a real issue that she's trying to get people to pay attention to. The others are just too deep into that whole "I'm so relatable-but have an infinite pot of money and help" style of self promotion. Agree with pp, FOD makes me want to track him down and have a stand up argument with him about his just, fucking argggh, annoyingness and dreadful spelling. That faux 'chillaxed' cool dad act is getting so bloody tedious and naff. Those kids are yes, gorgeous. They're never unkempt, the house is always spotless apart from a few strategic things chucked about, and they manage about five holidays a year. The thing is, I have a decent life too, so no I'm not jealous, but I'm not playing it up to the masses and dressing it up as some kind of crayzee chaos that I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. They know exactly what they're doing, they're not cracking under the weight of parenthood, and they know who their target audience is. They're smarter than they'd have us believe.

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 10:28

*aren't as relatable

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/09/2017 10:28

Flex lady rhymes with otherfucker.

langkaw · 02/09/2017 10:29

I think flex appeal makes some valid comments about ads. She's not getting all defensive and passive aggressive like others we've mentioned would. I quite like her.

TealStar · 02/09/2017 10:29

If you surround yourself with 'yes' people you will never have any perspective on your actions. You only have to look at the crazy world of celebrity ego-maniacs to see how the narcissistic, self-loving rot sets in.

Tribe of mamas 😂

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 10:31

I like MotherPukka. But some others seem to fangirl her to extremes sometimes.

langkaw · 02/09/2017 10:32

Milo: I agree with everything you've just said.

Elephantsahoy · 02/09/2017 10:32

I can't see MOD's comment anywhere?!

I hate "mama", it makes my teeth edge. Susie Verrill (whom I like) has "uk modern mama" as her insta bio and it makes me want to throw things.

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 10:33

That blog post about the disabled child linked above was really good. I liked the sister perspective.

I think she's now locked her Instagram to private though, as I just went to see if she mentioned that stuff on there or just did clothes etc, and can't see anything now.

Elephantsahoy · 02/09/2017 10:34

Yes it's changed to private. I assume due to this thread.

LalaLeona · 02/09/2017 10:35

Get a life!

Elephantsahoy · 02/09/2017 10:39

Eh, lala?

ElspethFlashman · 02/09/2017 10:40

Yes I like Anna too. She's a nice woman and she's trying to do something worthwhile. I still think she Instastories just too much. I realise it's probably only a snippet every hour in reality. But she does it far far more than anyone else and you can see her pre-schooler gets impatient with it sometimes which makes me a bit uncomfortable. Not that it would kill a pre-schooler to have to wait for attention for 30 seconds! But it's a LOT. You click on her Instastories and across the top of the screen is - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - and you go fuck me that's a lot of getting your phone out, love.
