To be fed up of Instamums

Hmmmmx100 · 25/08/2017 22:56

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

Thanks Langkaw got her. First post: 'I hired a luxury lounger...'

I'm going to enjoy this!

Boredboredboredboredbored · 01/09/2017 08:27

Another awe inspiring one is mummydaddyme.......They are on another holiday yay!!

babybubblescomingsoon · 01/09/2017 08:45

The ones i follow are great. They don't do that endorsement (from what I can see) and they're pretty down to earth !

MamaMagellanic · 01/09/2017 09:05

Who do you follow baby?

coffeecow · 01/09/2017 09:39

Just found the twee one. 'Dancing in the moonlight' was an actual sentence she used...wow

Friendlylightupbear · 01/09/2017 09:58

I honestly can't believe that anyones life is this perfect! Unless I'm doing life wrong! I've had IG for years and I used to post a few arty, instaworthy pics of cake, tea pots and flowers etc etc. I look back at them now and just feel daft because i know behind the lens nothing was perfect at all. I only post very little now, and only things that i actually care about (DD and when i get a good picture of a bee in my garden Grin)

I like the lady who has the more than toast blog, i find her relatable, although she does go on a lot of holidays Envy

I'm sick to
Fuck of getting baby led feeding down my throat frankly !!!

BubbleAnimal · 01/09/2017 10:31

I think a lot are the same management company. Just listed to Giovanna Fletcher's advert for her podcast, and she's interviewing 10 women - most are friends she posts about on Instagram (like Izzy Judd, fearne cotton, Rochelle Humes etc) but one in the listing that she doesn't mention at all - and hadnt on Instagram until she recorded it, and hasn't since, is MOD. So reckon that's a social set up.

Photomummy16 · 01/09/2017 10:34

Oh THAT'S the twee one!!! I've never minded her to be honest, always thought she was fairly harmless. I don't bother with her stories though - I see how many there are and scroll on by!

Cara Suthers and Susie Verrill are deservedly the winners of this thread.

TealStar · 01/09/2017 10:43

Langkaw it was THTMM!! The princess Elsa debacle... Grin

Although the other may have too...

TealStar · 01/09/2017 10:45

Actually LAOLF doesn't annoy me as much as MOD etc... her pics are quite cute imo

OhBondageUpYours · 01/09/2017 10:50

I watch the instamum accounts with interest. One instamum had a big announcement some months back. I noted she timed that big announcement with a purchase of thousands of followers. Clever I thought, as people (brands) will think the follower leap is because of the news. But no, as I watched her followers soar very late at night, I noted that those new followers were highly dubious.

I suspect some of these accounts pay for auto-likes as well. It's easy to do and cheap enough. The more likes you get, the more likely your image is to sit at the top of a hashtag search. When I go to SEO conferences, it's actually suggested as a recommended tactic for gaming instagram.

So in some ways brands are being a bit defrauded - not be everyone but definitely by some. Do they realise this and let it slide? Probably.

Courtney yes that's the one. Lol.

ElspethFlashman · 01/09/2017 11:23

Fucking Abbott Lyon watches. Everywhere. Every day. Ugh. And the fugly bracelets. Bleeeuuurgh.

That's one brand I would never ever buy now.

Pommes · 01/09/2017 11:24

Earlier in the year there was a thread here about FOD and MOD. One of their twins was hospitalised and, I kid you not, they had made an Instagram video documenting the whole thing.... The starting clip was FOD taking a selfie, with his daughter clearly visible in the background being treated by paramedics in their kitchen....

If your child is poorly enough that you dial 999, you do not have the time to record the event for Instagram. Warped behaviour.

TealStar · 01/09/2017 11:25

They think they are the Posh n Becks of Instagram Smile

chalkyc2 · 01/09/2017 11:32

I follow some of the women mentioned with a sort of horrified fascination! Does anyone else follow mini travellers? Did she basically start up a blog just to get free holidays? Not even well written...

BubbleAnimal · 01/09/2017 11:32

Pommes I remember that. I was shocked at the whole instagramming a 999 call. Id forgotten until you mentioned it now. Wonder if he's now deleted it?

BubbleAnimal · 01/09/2017 11:34

You can tell the fake bought accounts. They have 16k followers but only 100-200 likes on any post. They have faked it, but now get loads of freebies. It's not just instamums either, it's across Instagram.

Oh yes, I remember THTMM starting a thread about her pregnant Elsa, that was a few months back, no?

Although seriously, a pregnant Elsa ConfusedGrin

OhBondageUpYours · 01/09/2017 11:49

BubbleAnimal

Yes there are the stupid and obvious fakers. But the clever instagram gamers are far more subtle and keep the fake to real ratio much closer. And if you're buying fake followers, then you need fake likes. And maybe fake comments too. Brands look for engagement.

Search Instagram on fiverr - eye opening.
